It's always interesting to hear how people describe the tastes of different varieties. Freddie's description of Ettinger's flavor is spot on. Ettinger tastes like a watery Fuerte. A Fuerte/Zutano cross probably is the origin. If it isn't it sure tastes that way. Very nice video. Ellen and Freddie have always been generous with their information for Nor Cal avocado growing

The lady said in the video the Duke wasn’t very good but actually it taste almost exactly like Hass. It is a high quality avocado.

The lady(main presenters) is Ellen Baker, her husband is Freddie Menge, they both own and operate Epicenter Nursery in Aptos Ca. Really nice couple and real passionate about helping norcal avocado growers

@@WebSurfingIsMyPastime yea, I do know that. Her ignorance on the Duke is unbelievable though. She has clearly never tasted one.

@@WebSurfingIsMyPastime Their depth of knowledge is in relation to what they sell. They can't know everything. Gary Matsuoka is a virtuoso with growing Brokaw avocado, in and around Laguna Hills Nursery - his store, where he wants you to buy his trees, potting soil, fertilizer, et cetera. But he wouldn't know much about those Sleepy Lizard avocados that are in Florida.

@@chinatownboy7482 Gary is a friend and it wouldn’t surprise me that he studies Southern California avocados more than those in Florida. He sells in SoCal. Generally, they are different avocados than the West Indian types they might see more often in Florida. Same with NorCal where I’d suppose growers are more concerned with the colder temperatures than we have in Southern California. It’s good to get some diverse feedback from the diverse people to be able to compare & contrast.

@ 52:35 A little more information on the infamous Duke avocado. Thank you Aunty Irene, for asking the question.

Lots of good information here. Thank you. I just purchased a JEM from Golden Gate Palms yesterday. At 1:18:40 it was mentioned to keep avocados away from plums. Can you elaborate? I just recently planted a pluot tree about 12 feet away from where I was planning on planting my avocado.

Very good info! Can you plz put timestamps for various subjects for easy access in the Description? Nice to see Ellen and Freddy talk in person! I have enjoyed reading their blogs on their website -- and useful info on various types. I have a question: @ 46:00 for cold hardy varieties: do you also recommend Fantastic, Day, Mexicola Grande? Thanks!

Nonsense. Chicken manure is fantastic for avocado trees.😂
