He mentioned a fabled coconut tasting variety. On KZbin "weird fruit explorer" has an episode called Golden Apple where he tries a white Sapote from Africa that has a green skin and a distinct coconut flavor. I too would like to find a cultivar like this.

He mentions that Suebelle is the most widely grown in CA but it's one that he never recommends and that he'll tell later why (16:20), but he never tells why. I have 2 Suebelles, damn!

kzbin.infovideos That guy is in CA and has some videos that cover white sapotes. There might be some info that helps. I don't recall if he mentions pros and cons of the different varieties but I do recall him mentioning Subebelle a few times. The details aren't too important to me since I can't grow them where I live anyway, I just watch to dream. lol

I didn't notice the Californian variety " Wilson" mentioned. Popular here in Australia for its high production, hardiness and flavour. Also fast grower in a temperate climate.

Hi Tom l planted a seedling which was six inches long and that was probably about 30 years a go and guess how long it took to fruit are you ready it took 26 years to flower and fruit but what a pity the fruit is not edible it is tiny and it’s got a dorsal side and a ventral like a cashews what a waste of 30 years . l planted a grated Ortega next to it at the same time from a friend you won’t believe me but that all so took the same time to fruit to it is un believable and the tree is tiny compèred to the seedling next to it the seedling is massive it is tall as a two story building l don’t no what to do it is just a waste of space in the old days you couldn’t find grafted specimens my Ortega is tiny fruit the size of a golf ball l would love to have a Macdill Walton rainbow all the best ones . Even my Annona custard apple trees seedlings next to it took about 20 years to flower but no fruit it was probably a planted from a store brought fruit which it probably was an African pride and they sold it to me as a Asimina tiloba an American paw paw l had so much bad luck . It is my favourite fruit you guys are spoiled there in California not like us in Melbourne Australia Tom make more Videos on different variety’s and species congratulations what a brilliant video

Is this really a great tasting fruit? I mean, let's compare to jackfruit, durian, figs, custard apple, is it in the same league? I know it's subjective but still would like to hear the subjective answers.

If you like avocado texture, with very high sugar taste, then I rate ws above those, although I am partial to a perfectly ripe honey fig
