Everyone make sure you install the provided oring on the preload bolt! If you threw it out like me a 5/8x3/4x1/16 will fit. Part A016 from harbor freight

Why do you tighten the "big screw"after tightening the crank fixing bolt ? If I understand this correctly, the big screw is to preload the bearings, so after the crank fixing bolt is tightened, there is no effect on tightening the "big screw". Is it just so it does not fall off ?

Yes, tightening the "big screw" is to keep it from falling out.

1) Does the pes505 need to be calibrated before each workout? 2) In what position should the connecting rods be during calibration? 3) What exactly does the “Rewind Zero offset” setting do in the mobile app? Is this just a power meter calibration?

@vim385 1. no but don't forget to calibrate it if you remove the crankset to clean the BB, 2. left crank arm position down, 3. means you can calibrate by turning the arms backwards 5 times (don't need app)

It isn't needed. You just need calibrate it at the first time you use it.😀

mainproblem of the hollowtech 2 cranks(or with the same tighening technic ), they have no failsafe to fall of. Threads and Preload Screws are too weak.

Mine came off this morning. Lost the bolt as well. Got a gravel event this weekend and need a replacement part or risk riding it without the bolt. Just tighten the crank arm bolt really tight and hope for the best?

​@@davidgarza2267 That doesn't seem like a proper solution, as the side bolt appears to be taking all the tension on the crank arm. Running it like that, especially during a race, could be risky. I really hope Magene addresses this issue promptly since it's a common problem with this crank.

@@MegaTink07 you’re right. It came off again on my shakedown ride this morning. I’ve heard the shimano hollow tech bolt may fit. If it doesn’t, I can’t do the gravel event tomorrow. Sad times.

Hi. Chainline is 45mm. Just make sure the BCD is 110 then it will be compatible.

Youre over preloading the crank. Just hand tighten the preload bolt so there's no lateral play. Then 12-14nm on the pinch bolt. Then your torque down the preload

@@MageneOfficial Thank you for the response! I am interested in this power and looking to purchase it soon, I just want to clear my concerns before that. I'm sure your team has done extensive testing. Big bolt coming loose while on ride (resolved by using some loctite) and crank arm falling off are two things I read while digging for more information on internet. I'm sorry, I'm not able to find those links again. But in case I do, and I still have any doubts before purchase, I'll contact on given mail ID. Thank you!

We have QED chainrings could work with PES but that's for 11-12 speed. Maybe you can use PES with your original charinring.

3:25 Why would you torque the pre-load bolt AFTER installing and tightening the crank arm? Also, 10-12 Nm seems extremely high for a pre-load bolt. For example, Shimano indicates 0.7 - 1.5 Nm for the pre-load bolt when installing their cranksets.

Hello. tightening the pre-load bolt is to keep it from falling out. In addition, the torque of 10-12Nm is not high. The big difference with Shimano is because their bolts are nylon, while ours are metal. Please follow the instructions in the video:)

The pre-load is the initial tightening to remove play. The second tightening is to stop it falling out. I'd use a bit of loctite too as it works itself free quite easily.

@@poxcr well the crank bolt should do that (and does) but the preload bolt can work loose

@@jameseastwood402 On a properly designed crank the preload bolt is just that and nothing more, and it could even be removed with no ill effects. Relying on the preload bolt to keep the crank arm in place is a recipe for disaster as it is evident judging by some comments on this video.

Hello. The bayonet that connects power meter & crank is self-developed by Magene. So it can only adopt original crank. Its specs is 110BCD four-bolt and is compatible with other chainrings on the market, depending on the specific model.

The crank needs to be installed according to the instructions in the manual and locked to the specified torque. This product is specially designed to prevent loosening and has undergone multiple rounds of testing. 2. Despite locking to the specified torque, still the torque needs to be checked periodically. 3. So far our after-sales team has received little feedback on similar situations. Could you please report this issue to the after-sales ? Yes there is an issue with the crank arm bolt system Mine when its tighten it compresses the bearing resulting to not smooth when pedaling or its really hard to push the pedal.

The "big screw" is just bearing preload, it needs to be turned in lightly just so that there is no play in the cranks before tightening the crank bolt to torque. Only after the crank bolt is tight, is the recommendation to also tighten the "big screw", but that part I have no idea why, as it should not do anything.

Just installed the p505 power meter with pes cranks and qed rings.. what a piece of crap, chainrings you can bend with your bare hands, crankarms noticeably twist under load. People need to know... Waste of money!
