I'm a pipe smoker, and I've been using a Dissim for the past 1-2 years. The lighter almost always lights on the first click. Recently it sometimes takes several clicks to get to light; it's probably due to carbon buildup. The only thing I don't like about the lighter is the paint, which after one year, has completely rubbed off. I suggest that if you buy one, paint the painted surfaces with a polyurethane. I went from a Zippo to the Dissim because the Zippo uses lighter fluid that will evaporate over a few days of not being used. The Dissim uses butane, plus it's a click lighter, so I don't have to worry about my lighter running out of a flint when not at home. I purchased a butane insert for my Zippo which was made by Z-Pipe. This total POS product should be avoided. I had nothing but problems getting it to light right out of the box.

I smoke only pipes., I don't smoke cigarettes and I don't smoke cigars but I still want a nice (but tough) torch lighter to have for starting my camp- fires.

Torch lighters are fine to use in a pipe if you're not a klutz and you actually point the flame at the tobacco and not the wall of your pipe: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hX7XeYJ3nrRreas You can stick your finger pretty close to the side of a torch flame too, just don't point it at things you don't want to burn. One caveat I suppose, don't use a double/triple/quad torch lighter on your pipe, a single jet should be fine (again, assuming you're not a klutz).
@budthecyborg45755 жыл бұрын
Or better yet, abandon all flame powered lighters and go electric, your pipe rim will stay almost perfectly clean from then on.

Just found your video, good stuff. On the cheap side :) - I use a $3 torch lighter, over 2 years, more than 500 cigars, works great. For my pipe, I used a mini-barbeque lighter (also $3) for about 3 months now, no problems burning myself or anything else.

The Kiribi is cheap, I smoke one bowl a day and the hinge wears out in two years. Gas escapes, the flame may not go out and can become a fire hazard. SP has a monopoly on parts and only would sell them to me after making a bad review. They wanted me to spend $35 plus $20 international shipping to repair a $65 lighter every two years, on parts that cost around $2.50, don’t think so! The screws strip real easily, you’ll have to constantly keep them tight or they fall out or your lighter disintegrates in your hand. I have abandoned the Kiribi and can’t recommend it. After another bad review SP gave me my money back. Great customer service, but it was necessary to call them out over money grabbing tactics and marketing the lighter to us. I will be buying an IM corona old boy as soon as I find the one I like on sale, and according to chuck, this thing will hopefully last me ten years. Should have tried it from the start, but I am glad SP made good on the Kiribi.

If your butane lighters are having a hard time lighting, what I have done is to blow them out with a air compressor with a nozzle. They wok fine after that.

I had to stop when you started praising Zippos. I am a long-time cigar smoker. There is no way that any serious smoker would use a Zippo. If you think that the fuel taste doesn't linger with the rest of the tobacco, your taste buds are burnt out.
@JordanCrowderFilms4 жыл бұрын
Tojazzer 90 years of Zippos being used to light tobacco in all forms and I never heard people complain about the taste until the internet experts. I have a super sensitive palette, to a point it annoys a lot of people around me, and the Zippo doesn’t bother me. Everyone’s different, doesn’t mean you discount all of someone’s advice because you simply disagree.

Great to keep bics around, especially for emergencies, but another shit thing is they burn a shit small flame in the cold.

Someone needs to make a thunderbird that is reliable and also features the double hole system that the oh zippo lighter has dropping the flame in the center of the bowl
@JordanCrowderFilms4 жыл бұрын
With Jetline you just need to take it back to any store that sells them and they’ll swap it out and send it back to the company. My Zippo is still tried and true and I never taste it.

Just buy a Pearl Stanley and you're good to go. It works every time and the gas tank is 4g of gas, that lasts for about 2 weeks with me. By the way this is the company that produces Peterson lighters, but it's much cheaper.

With the zippo pipe lighter, if you leave the flame burn for a few seconds then light your pipe, do you still get the "fuel taste"
@gentlemanscorner33356 жыл бұрын
The short answer to your question is “yes”. Unlike a match, the fuel doesn’t “burn away” from the wick after a few seconds because the fluid is what feeds the flame. However, the taste fades within the first couple of puffs and does not taint the rest of the bowl. It’s really not noticeable at first light apart from the first 2-3 puffs, so in my opinion if you’re outside the benefits outweigh this small cost.

@@gentlemanscorner3335 First thanks for the video! I enjoyed it. Second, slightly disagree on the Zippo, I use the pipe lighter version and only use Zippo fuel, not Ronsonol fuel. Yes Ronsonol is owned by Zippo but using the new formula Zippo premium fuel I don't ever taste the fuel. Of course everyone has different mouth chemistry so ask 10 people and you will get 10 answers.

All that Bic needs to do to create the Ultimate (Indoor) Pipe Lighter is angle the flame 45 degrees away from your thumb. I have never seen a Piezo lighter that worked correctly, from early childhood to buying half a dozen styles of various torches today, they ALL fail miserably after a short amount of use. In my experience Piezo lighters have a 100% failure rate after not a very long lifespan. In the next 50 years I expect arc lighters to almost wholly replace liquid fuel lighters.

I use Bics with the 3 in extended flame tube found them at walmart or BIC. direct, also use torch lighter to light stick match , torch flame burns off the sulfur quick.

what type of matches should I get? any brand you would recommend?
@gentlemanscorner33354 жыл бұрын
So I can’t really recommend a brand, per se. What’s important about matches is that you wait a moment for the head to burn so that the chemicals burn out before lighting. Other than that most matches are safe provided you follow that step. It’s really a matter of personal preference.
@kaysersoze23354 жыл бұрын
@@gentlemanscorner3335 Ended up getting a Zippo Pipe Lighter. I don't really get bothered with a lighter fluid smell so its fine for me.

Something you didn't mention: Flint dust is toxic to inhale. If you smoke a lot, it's a good idea to use electronic start type lighters. Personally I love zippos but they never stay filled for me. Might just be that I use my lighter so rarely. The soft flame electronic start type are great but yeah, if you don't have a high quality one and use really pure butane, they get clogged real easy.
@DellaStreet123 Жыл бұрын
I don't think "flint dust" constitutes a significant health risks. Dusts from rare earth metals is certainly not healthy to inhale in large quantities, but this concerns mining and processing mostly. And even then the dust is not carcinogenic (unlike tobacco or weed smoke) and it doesn't cause silicosis like diatomacaceus earth or asbestos does. The alternative, a piezo-electric spark, causes a whiff of x-rays, you think this is better?

You have to purge a butane lighter once in awhile to perform properly
@salvadorhardin26445 жыл бұрын
Purging is not required in any way. I have a $3 (dollar store) single flame torch lighter, used for over 2 years, at least 500 cigars. Not a single problem with it. Never purged any lighters , they all worked fine.
