I had to design my own case on fusion 360 and was surprisingly easy using the canvas function! Simply took a picture of the phone and traced the unusual shape, after a few test prints to get the camera lens located perfectly the first print came out perfect! I used a soldering iron to cut out the locations for the charging ports and side located fingerprint sensor so I could print the case thin.

I have had many issues with TPU prints peeling off the buildplate, specifically phone cases and especially when they have fillets or chamfers on the bottom. My preferred method is using a brim, because aside from adding surface area it also acts like a suction cup on a glass bed. It works really well. To easily remove the TPU brim, which is otherwise a huge pain, I just set the distance to the case just large enough that it barely fuses, and then I can just peel it away easily

I've found no mater what drying my tpu before using eliminates stringing and gives me unbelievable prints.

Ive had the same experience. Tpu is just as sensitive to moisture as nylon.

Interesting!! How do you dry it??
@hillfortherstudios2757
@hillfortherstudios2757 2 жыл бұрын
@@petermarin o dry them in a food dehydrator. Then, when i print it, i have a dehydrator that i clip on to the top of the machine. With tpu, i find a print quality difference after only a few hours. A side note, when i dry it in the dehydrator, i give it a few extra hours. Not just the recommended fore hours.

Thanks for the TPU tips. Not sure if having a Bowden Tube style 3D Printer (a POS PrusaMini) makes printing TPU more difficult or not. Need to do the research. If I could use TPU on top of what I already have, it would easily allow me to make 50% more items around the house and work. Custom stoppers, feet for furniture, covers/grips for tools, etc... Good video. Thanks for the work!

I have seen TPU pinted on a Prusa Mini before. May take a bit to get the settings dialed in. Start with some small test prints, but it'll be worth it :)

Another helpful video. Thank you! Question: What about the overhang on the inside of the case? Will that "just print" or does that require supports as well?
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 2 жыл бұрын
Great question, Jamie! That prints well without supports. I didn't have any drooping/sagging with my TPU dialed in. Generally, I've found about 3mm or less will print okay without supports when using TPU. Anything more, such as the button/charger holes that were 6-15mm, will require supports.

Loved your video, made wonder. If I should buy a a3d printer lol. Question (have to start with explanation). Have a S22 ultra and there is this case from this company that is the adapter to use some photograph lenses to my phone but they didn't make the case for my s22 ultra inky for the S21 ultra. The camera layout on both phones is the same but the size and shape of the bumper varies for a couple millimeters. I've been thinking in buying the case for the S21 ultra, cut the bumper and somehow make/adapt a new bumper to the 3xsting back of that case... Would that be doable somehow???

It's hard to say without trying :) Generally, adding a 3D printed part to existing is challenging if there is no mechanism/joint, other than using glue. If you had access to a 3D printer it may be easier to design/reverse engineer and 3D print the whole thing.

@ProductDesignOnline 2 жыл бұрын
You can combine them with the "Combine" tool if needed. However, many times it's best to simply place them all in the same component. STEP files can still vary greatly depending on how they were made and from which program. Which file where you using, Todd?

@@ProductDesignOnline I also found with the Note 20 it doesn't have a constant edge to sweep around. So I can't figure out how to get it. I will try something else. lol
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline 2 жыл бұрын
@@toddcoello6461 The trick with the phone models without a constant edge is to use a Midplane construction plane > Split Body. This will split the model into two, leaving you with a reference edge all the way around. Midplane works best as you have the edge at the furthers point out (if the phone has a curve/radius).
