Yeah the detail is just insane on these! I struggle to properly gauge how long a miniature will take, I'm always way off lol
@BandaInku6 жыл бұрын
For reals. It's hard to judge sometimes. A lot of times things just end up taking a lot longer than you'd think. Particularly if you're trying hard to get smooth blends and such. But hey I'd much rather have super detailed minis that take longer and look awesome than crappy models that are fast and easy to paint :)

I cannot like this comment enough. This is why I've never done a speed painting. First of all I enjoy the painting process and don't want to rush it and second of all, a bad paint job makes me just want plain plastic. If you are going to spend the time to do it you might as well take the extra time to do it to your abilities.

Magnificent! The only thing I'd have done differently was to wear a glove so as to not let the oil from my skin mess up my paints. I learned a lot from watching these two videos alone. I'm surprised to see you using a W&N sable brush for your metallic paints--I've always heard to never do that.
@BandaInku3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've thought about wearing a glove but then for some reason I never end up doing it 🤣 As far as the sable brushes and metals... Yeah I just saw someone talking about that in a video recently. Probably should stop doing that haha. Honestly when it comes to brush care, I'm great at cleaning out my brush and conditioning it, but keeping paint out of the ferrel and such I'm terrible. My brushes still seem to be in good shape though even after a year or so. Well.. my new ones are. My WN 7s are all backup whatever brushes now 😄
@MaskedRiderChris3 жыл бұрын
@@BandaInku Likewise for my Raphael 8404 brushes--the 2 and 1 lost their points in no time regardless of cleaning and care, and the 0 is the only one with an appreciable point left. The one W&N #1 I bought must have been a bad one, since it never held a point at all. Currently I'm bouncing between Army Painter and Princeton brushes and they're working well for me. About to start using hair clay to help maintain them, as well.
@BandaInku3 жыл бұрын
I tried some of Army Painter's brushes (their 'quickstart' set or whatever) and couldn't stand their triangle handles. Drove me nuts haha. The brush lasted an ok amount of time. I actually painted the Oni of Skulls with just those ones. The last 2 years of so I've been using Broken Toad Mk2 brushes and really like them. Though it's about time to get new ones. I would get some more Broken Toad Mk3 but I'm waiting for my Squidmar sable brush set to get here. Excited to try those out. Also want to pick up some Artis Opus series S brushes to try. I have their M brushes which are great for detail work but the belly of them is just so dang small they're not great for the normal stuff IMO.

Wow. Looks so good! I love that you feature the airbrush so prominently in your vids. It makes you unique in the “board game painting video” realm. Most other content creators just use the airbrush to prime but you really showed off what can be done with an airbrush while making it look less scary or intimidating to attempt. (Well kind of, I mean 50 hours!! 😄) Keep the vids coming, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next!
@BandaInku6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I love using my airbrush and have been trying to incorporate it more into all my painting cuz it's just such a fun tool to use. Glad to hear it helps make it look less scary! Airbrushing really is just like any other painting technique - Takes time to figure it out and to master, but it's so worth it! Yeah most models don't take 50 hours haha This guy took much longer than the average model cuz he's got a lot goin' on and I did a lot more experimenting on him than I usually do. That and I tend to be a slow methodical painter anyway. (I'm a bit of a perfectionist haha) Most minis this size take me more like 8-15 hrs depending on their amount of detail. Hoping to also find some time to make some more "How to" style videos covering airbrushing, blending methods, getting started painting, etc. To further help remove that scary/intimidating factor because mini painting is just so much fun and I want everyone who may even remotely be interested to try it out and be successful at it!

You should totally start! Mini painting is so much fun and really not that hard to pick up. What other games you got that you want to paint? Would recommend starting with a smaller model before jumping to a big guy like this. Any topics you would like me to cover as I begin creating my beginner's guide to painting minis? My hope is to make these videos inspiring and helpful - particularly to new painters. Anything I could do to better do that?
@SuperPilotMike6 жыл бұрын
Banda Inku thanks for the words of encouragement. I'm buying my first set of paints this week so I am curious about your paints that you use. Is there a reason that you prefer Vallejo paints other than cost? Biggest things I would like to see if you made a beginner guide would be the different techniques like dry brushing and blending. Thanks for the reply though and keep up the great work.

Nice! Vallejo was available at my local hobby shop and I had a friend who really liked Vallejo so I tried them out and for the most part really like their paints. That and Vallejo is a paint company that isn't tied to a game or game company so they will continue to be around. And they have a huge spectrum of colors. That's not to say other paints are bad or that I don't like other paints. I've actually been trying out other paints recently like P3's paints and Army Painter's Quickshades and I'm really liking those as well! Haven't tried Citadel's paints except for their shades which are fantastic, but I know a lot of people that rave about them. Honestly it's hard to go wrong with any miniature paints these days. They're all pretty good. What you looking at getting for your first paints? There's actually been quite a few requests to cover blending methods so that'll be first up! Definitely will be covering drybrushing and all that good stuff as well. Really excited for that series! Gonna have lots of good stuff! Feel free to reach out with any other requests or ideas for things that would be helpful, or any feedback on things I can do better to make the videos more helpful for ya!

Great work, definitely inspired me to tackle my Rising Sun minis. A quick question - what is the thinking behind basing your metallic sections with Vallejo's Burnt Umber?
@BandaInku5 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it! So with metals they tend to not completely cover the underlying colors. So even if you apply a few layers, you'll still get some of that underlying color reflecting in your metallics. So seeing that gold has a natural earth toney base it stems from, brown is a natural looking undertone for it. Also, undercoating first with brown makes painting gold way easier. For silvers I like to do something similar by undercoating in black. Hopefully that makes sense 😄
@BandaInku5 жыл бұрын
Just play around with painting gold and you'll see what I mean. Without undercoating it tends to suck haha

I've been painting with Citadel exclusively for the past year and I really like it. Except for the color range which is just too limited. Game stores around my area don't work with Vallejo and I had bad experiences buying this kind of product online. I'm travelling to Spain and well... that's the source haha. Which paints would you say are a must have? It semms like inks are.
@BandaInku5 жыл бұрын
Haven't used any Citadel paints yet. Just their shades (which are great). Loving Vallejo and P3 though! Appreciate your opinion good sir. I agree that it is not always necessary to follow the card art. (I definitely don't when painting the Dragonfly Shinto) I really like the card art for this dude though so I wanted to follow it :) What parts would you like to have seen changed and what colors would you like to have seen used instead?
@elijahfuller96936 жыл бұрын
I think it looks amazing! 50 hours is real commitment thought. When I paint mine I might do a different cloak color, which color did you originally want to do? If you had to paint another one of these how would you do it differently?
@rosenkazakov99146 жыл бұрын
I did my Oni cloak in dark purple, and the loin cloth in yellow and it looks so much better than the card. also changed his skin color. What 50 hours are you talking about ? one figure, depends on the complexity takes between 2 to may be 10 hours max , and 10 hours would be something big with lots of color mixing, washes using, etc.
@elijahfuller96936 жыл бұрын
I was actually thinking of using a purple on the cloak, when I get to it. I am new to painting and this model seems a bit harder to paint than the others, so I might paint a few before I attempt this one. Banda said he spent around 50 hours on this model.
@rosenkazakov99146 жыл бұрын
That is bullshit, no single figure requires 50 hours. Total pile of crap. As i said, and i have been painting figures since before the first "Descent ", so that's about 10 years now ,i have painted literally hundreds of miniatures and the most complicated figure i ever did was 10 - 12 hours max. And that includes doing the bases with rocks, grass , etc, and protective coating with Vallejo finish. Even if you are slow ( and i am never in a hurry when i paint ) and take your time, 50 hours is absurd.
