SUGGESTION: I also have a picky toddler.. and honestly I feed her what me and my husband eat. Sounds easy enough but occasionally I dish in for a meal what she prefers to eat.. like mac n cheese, or apples, chicken nuggets etc. A really good suggestion even for Jackson is to make sure the food smells good. Yes they are small children but they should taste different flavors too. You're Cuban so incorporate some garlic and onions and cilantro in your beans next time, make them in a delicious sauce with some rice on the side. Make some chicken in sauce too for your kids with a side of avocado. Maybe if you put some seasoning with some herbs the smell will enhance their taste buds. The aroma will make them crave the food plus if you and Joe are eating the same things they'll probably want to eat it too. Like I said suggestion. Please don't be offended but they're some easy delicious recipes on KZbin. Laura Vitale makes a delicious whole chicken meal maybe the kids might like a whole meal with some real flavor. 💖🍗🥩🧅🧄🌶🥣

You're doing a wonderful job, Kayla! Cooking for tiny humans is definitely an adaptation. I know it helped me knowing that as a parent, my job was to offer my child a variety of nutritional food at set times and that it was my child's job to choose if and how much food they ate during those times. Babies and toddlers are also very intuitive eaters and know how much they need to eat to feel satisfied. I keep telling myself that whenever my daughter barely eats at mealtimes. 😂 I always try to serve my baby at mealtimes a source of iron (meat or plant-based), a source of grain and/or fat, and fruits and/or veggies. And like someone already mentioned below, you can always offer a "safe" food during meal times that you know your child likes and then keep alternating the rest so they're still getting the exposure. Good luck, you've got this! 💕

I was just talking about how I feel like my whole day revolves around what my daughter is going to eat. She is picky too. If anyone is really struggling with getting your baby/toddler to eat solids I really recommend Your Kids Table.

They say if your child is going through a phase where they are being picky and not eating to only offer ONE food you know they will eat. Keep offering new ones or ones they are protesting and the stage will pass/they will try them. There is research out of there that supports all this as well. You're doing a great job mama!!

My first was super picky... but I think it was bc I catered to it and I was so scared! With my second, I gave her everything from about 7 months old. I’m due with my third in about 6 weeks and I’ll be even less flexible with him, lol. Some ideas that really worked with my kids (even the picky one): Grilled cheese cut very small Mac and cheese Waffles with peanut butter cut small Tortellini cut small Sweet potato, soft & diced Cheerios with milk (a mess but they love it) Pasta with ground Turkey & sauce (use elbows so it’s small) Quesadillas cut small Scrambled eggs with cheese Toast with melted cheese cut small I just kept rotating and kept offering. Eventually it’ll even out!

Im no expert, but a good rule of thumb is to offer a protein or iron source, a grain and fruit veggie with each meal. Try offering the fruit last since most kids will definitely eat that first. I see that you meal prep, but maybe meal planning would be helpful when trying to decide what to offer at each meal. Having an alternative option, in case they dont eat what you offered first. I do this with my 9 month old and it saves me time with feeding her (were doling BLW). I just write down the meals, based off what foods are already prepped and I go from there. Riley is becoming your little helper. Loved the vlog.

I stressed about food too! Mine are the same ages and we go through the exact same stuff! My 3-year-old daughter it comes and goes how picky she is. For lunch I often offer leftovers from the day before especially if the kids didn't eat dinner with us. I also do things like sprinkle salt on grape tomato half's or cucumbers to get them to eat it. I always offer veggie dip or ranch if it's a vegetable I know they won't eat by themselves even if they just lick the sauce off at least they're exposed to it. Maybe one day they'll take a bite! I also do the frozen chicken nuggets and peanut butter and jelly all the time 😬 Right there with you. I catered to them for lunch. My toddler sometimes doesn't get much for dinner because I won't offer something else. I really can't let them go hungry like some say you should 🤷

My kids loved soup, mac and cheese, and tuna or grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. Greek yogurt, too. It’s so easy to make your own mac and cheese, not the crap in the box. Homemade soup freezes great in individual portions and is so healthy!

Cooking tip, you can cut the broccoli stems and roast those too, tastes just as delicious. At least up to the branches. I recommend you try it next time. About Jackson's lack of interest in food he used to like it's super normal, it's just so important to continue offering to him all the foods even if he doesn't eat them or show interest. I am usually a no replacement meals kind of parent, at least not in the same moment but I do offer my son more food 30 min later to an hour later then he will eat some times and others he wont. Honestly, I wouldn't stress because children will NOT starve themselves, sometimes they are not hungry. Just give them the chance to come to the food when they are ready, it's up to them to eat it and we can't force them.

You’re doing great Kayla! Motherhood is so challenging and everyone tells you to not worry, but I do think it’s simply in our nature. I have a six year old son who wouldn’t eat meat for the longest. We just kept trying. At around 4 years old he was more willing to try new foods. Now I can’t seem to keep him from eating haha 😆. One day at a time that’s all we can do! Blessing to your little family. 💕

We keep pouches in our house, as a backup in case my 17 month old doesn’t want to eat her food or we don’t think she’s had enough. We want to get away from that, but I’d rather give her those than nothing.

My 15 month old eats whatever I eat, with the exception of anything very hard or spicy. We did baby led weaning since he was 6 months old. It’s so much easier to not have to make separate meals for me and him. I know maybe you have that as your goal for the future, but you could start slowly working towards that now! Maybe give them one thing that you are eating along with their own special things. I still struggle with what to give my son for snacks though! He needs more snacks than I do. It’s really hard to avoid packaged things because they are so easy to grab and go!

It’s so nice hearing you talk about the struggle of feeding your kids. I have a 10 month old and when I started the baby-led weaning process at 6 months we would eat everything and anything I offered him and now he’ll pick at it and play with it but won’t eat it. Most of it end up on the floor and it’s so discouraging because I’ll spend so much time preparing and cooking for him so completely disregarding it and it makes me so sad and I get so worried that he’s not eating enough.

What I’ve learned with my 10 month old is that I can make her something separate and she might eat it, but she actually wants to eat whatever mommy & daddy are eating. It can be hard sometimes since she doesn’t have any teeth yet, but I’ve learned to try and make a mix of something we’re eating and then supplement with a canned veggie on the side or purée pouch if she wants as well. She also still drinks formula so anytime I think she didn’t eat enough I know she’s drinking her milk for nutrients as well.

I need to stop watching your videos before bed. Last night I dreamt that you and I went hiking in Australia... Never been. Have no plans on going but apparently we're going there to go hiking. Also, my son just turned one and he's started getting really picky, too. He's got 3 out of 4 molars with the last one VERY close and he's getting over an ear infection. I'm really hoping it's the teeth and illness and that he's back to being a good eater soon 🤞🏻 I keep editing my comment because I keep thinking of things to add 😂 you guys need a smoker for that pork butt! My husband got one from Sam's and has been experimenting and it's been amazing.

Hi Kayla! My son is a little younger than Riley but I have some videos on my channel for toddler meal ideas you might like. My son is a good eater and I credit it to giving him lots of variety before turning 1, and like you said, not pressuring him helps so much!

My kids are pretty much all grown(my youngest is 12 years old and others are adults) When they were little I started them on rice cereal at 4 months and baby food at 5 months. I always started with sweet potatoes, then every 3 days added in a veggie and fruit. By 6 months old my babies were eating baby food 3 times a day(breakfast, lunch, and dinner) Around 8 months old(once they were used to baby food and textures) I started what they now call baby led weaning. I'd give them chunks of cooked broccoli, carrots, peas, avocado, banana, etc. By 10 months old, they were eating all the same things I'd make for myself. In my opinion, there's no need to make 3-4 different things to accommodate everyone. If you do that now, that's what your kids will always expect. Example of meals I'd eat And my toddlers would eat. Breakfast; scrambled eggs with jelly toast, maybe oatmeal. Snack - granola bar, string cheese, goldfish or something small. Lunch; turkey and swiss/cheddar sandwich with miracle whip. Goldfish/chips and an orange Snack - peanut butter crackers, mini muffins, etc. Dinner; Salmon with a brown sugar and butter glaze with rice and steamed veggies. You should check out Brendas500cats here on KZbin. She has 13 month old twin boys who were born early and they eat really well. Everything she makes for them, she eats too. They eat anything and everything. She also shows you what she's making and includes a lot of protein, iron, vitamins, etc into their meals.

Making food for kids is NOT easy ! You are doing great ! You make an effort. You don’t give them bad food ! Good job mama ! Yes it is frustrating when they don’t eat, especially when you make the food from Scratch ahhhh ! 😑

I feel your pain on the feeding. My 1 year old was the best eater for awhile. Now he refuses some foods and spits other stuff out. It’s frustrating to spend a ton of time making new recipes and stuff just to have them refuse to eat or just pick at it!

Tip: You can eat the broccoli stem. If it’s too tough for you just remove the outer skin. Or next time just buy the broccoli crowns instead, it’d prob save you a few $ Cos of the weight of the stem too!

Yeah, I eat the stalks all the time. I leave them on when I roast broccoli with olive oil and sea salt, just cut them vertically to thin them. Deelish!

Jackson and Riley are so cute! Also, I like to food prep my groceries too because it makes it easier to cook during the week! If you need something to entertain your kids while you cook, check out our representative animated songs. As seen on Pix 11 News in NYC!
