Honestly, I did the same when I was on campus (since I am an online student now and live at home). Idk if it is the student culture or anything, but honestly no one would take anything because everyone else knows how inconvenient that would make our lives. Even when I didn't feel comfortable in the student union, I'd ask a stranger to watch my stuff that was near me and they wouldn't mind and would do the same if they needed to use the bathroom or get something.
