In addition to HPAI in egg laying chickens there has been cases of salmonella in eggs being sold in nine states that have been recalled. The egg shortage and increase in pricing is an effect of supply and demand. During the holiday season demand went up due to increased baking of cakes/cookies etc. This is not just a United States problem. Bird flu has been detected on every continent including Antarctica.

hey soph! i work at trader joe’s in MA, the bird flu is still running rampant and unfortunately chicken have died at an alarming rate so theres no one to produce the eggs 😟 we order eggs and chicken everyday, but they never send us all that we order because of the shortage 😭
