I have the GR Yaris and I just love the looks and feel of the car. A pocket rocket. The design is cleaner and less fussy than the GR Corolla in my eyes.

I was only clarifying it because in the video, the reviewer mentioned a 100kg weight difference. The power-to-weight is virtually identical in both Cars. Both Cars have the same maximum torque.

Kudos on being literally the only comparsion video of these two on youtube. Thanks for the good work! Both are fantastic machines and you cannot go wrong with either. Want more space and practicality? GRC. Want something smaller and more nimble? GRY. I had the GRY for a year and a half, sold it to get the FL5 Civic Type R and I miss the yaris sometimes. What a time to be alive!

Really good video and I think you captured the differences well but although I think comparing the two is interesting, ultimately each car addresses a different market. The Yaris was conceived as a homologated WRC car and excels on rally terrains as well as tight twisty B roads. The Corolla is a far more mainstream road car designed for a much wider range of daily duties. As a GRY owner I’d love to drive the Corolla (I’m sure it’s a great car), but where I live, that +200kg difference takes way the essence of what makes the GR Yaris so special to me.

The GR Corolla seats look the business but they don't hold you in laterally which is a shame. The Yaris seats are more similar to the GR86 seats in their size and provide greater support. I like the proportions of the Corolla and wouldn't say no to one but it's the Yaris every time because is so special and $10k cheaper.

Great video, I have a GR Yaris Rallye and considered getting a Corolla for the extra bootspace however as others said the GR Yaris is just too special a vehicle, with its bespoke chassis and a homologation special i just love it so much. Just want to say though that torque is actually the more important figure, but manufacturers like to claim more horsepower for marketting. So it would have been better if the Corolla gained more torque as well. The saying torque gets you there, horsepower keeps you there, so the Corolla really would be less zippy around daily driving because it has similar torque output but weighs 200kgs more than a GR Yaris. Thats almost 3 extra passengers in a GR Yaris, feel how sluggish the car gets 😅 Other thing to note is the extra weight affects cornering and braking as well. Any tuner or high performance workshop will tell you the Corolla will probably need an extra 50kw at least to negate the 200kg kerb weight difference. So if we are just comparing performance, the extra weight is a huge penalty. 🙂 Otherwise i love the Corolla for all the extra creature comforts, extra 2 doors and slightly bigger boot for day to day use.

I’ve been lucky enough to drive both of these. I’ve actually have a order in for the GR Yaris Rallye. Agree the GR Corolla sounds better, but for me the GR Yaris seems more exclusive. Bespoke body where anyone could buy a base model Corolla and put a Chinese made body kit on it to make it look like a GR Corolla. Also mine will be a weekend car so don’t need the practicality of the GR Corolla.

I actually own GR Yaris Rallye and also owned a Morizo Corolla (Believe it or not) but I kept the Yaris and sold the Corolla, mostly because of the width and extra weight of the Corolla. After driving the Yaris for two years I could really feel the extra girth and felt I wasn't able to pin it on a tight mountain road as easily as the Yaris. Just wish the Yaris had the Morino's closer ration gearbox and more powerful engine. That would be the ultimate car.

@@darrenprior6339 I’ve read a few reports that an updated GR Yaris will be released next year. Will have the same power output as the GR Corolla and digital instrument cluster. Plus some styling changes, extra body rigidity and suspension tweaks.

I'm looking at either a used Rallye next year (2024) or the facelift povo pack Yaris due in 2024 which is claimed to have the GRC's digital dash, better aero, 221kw and the option of an 8sp auto.

I think the Yaris spins out because of its high grip and therefore less progressive rear slip, i.e when it goes at the back, it goes big. It has a longer wheelbase than a Porsche 911 and Cayman.

@@stormthing22 I had the pleasure of owning a gr yaris and now on the fl5 type r. TLDR: the toyotas have the AWD which is a huge advantage for drag racing, driving hard in wet and offroading/rally tracks. Apart from that the FL5 is better in every way, pulls harder, corners harder, bigger boot and higher quality interior, probably more durable and less maintenance cost (mainly less tyre wear and diff oil changes). For track I'd choose fl5 no question esp as the civic doesn't suffer from heat soak as much and doesn't have rear diff overheating issues (the biggest issue with GR four stock tbh). For daily-ability, GRC and FL5 will work ok. If you're torn: If you live in wet area or really want to win drag races off the traffic light, get the GR toyotas. No family and no need for big boot space and 4-5 passengers? GRY. Need 5 seats and bigger boot and more cornering prowess? GRC. Live in dry area and would appreciate superb handling/steering/gear shifting/pulling power/interior quality? FL5. Theyre actually quite close in rolling acceleration and comfort so I'd base my decision on AWD vs FWD, 2vs4vs5 usable seats and importance of handling and cornering speed.

In Australia we have it in the GR Yaris and Corolla 🙂 But i dont really benefit from it because i like to sit low and i am not tall so the dash blocks half of the HUD anyway 😂

@@cnrspd6969 Interesting lol...My Supra had it, and I did like it at first, but then the cool factor went away pretty quick lol. Never really paid attention to it. I was just curious why we don't have it in the US. Is the HUD not height adjustable? The one in my Supra and Mazda 3 are adjustable. Granted neither of those are Toyota systems.

Doesn’t really matter which one is better as they both have the same G16E motor. Since these motor are overbuilt & can get to 750hp running stock internals with e85. Oh yeah the 2024 GR Yaris will be getting the same HP as the GR Corolla.

The GR Corolla just looks uglier. Even if it was better in any sense than the GR Yaris, which is not, the looks are just not ok. I've not entered or driven the GR Corolla, but I am pretty sure it's not as fun as the GR Yaris.
