Mr. Malhotra some of us are not lucky enough to attend a school on the level of Harvard to have the chance to listen to a man like yourself and that's a shame because its easy to see why these " lucky" people have a leg up on us. Thank you for posting these talks and I pray you are able to post more. I'm 57 tears old and I listen to these over and over again to get the inspiration needed to move forward. I never had the experience of being on a campus like Harvard and get that experience of listening to something that would alter the course of life SO these talks are priceless! PLEASE see your way to post more and I THANK YOU for your time and help you don't know that you are giving threw these chats !!!! THANK YOU SIR

Thanks Deepak on that hopeful lecture. I'm 35 years old and after listening to this video I've decided to quit my job..I've been working there for 16 years and it was because of my personal circumstances I couldn't quit earlier. However I've now realised it is my mindset I need to change. I've recently lost my mum to cancer and I wish I had watched this earlier because it all makes sense now. Why waste time on a job you don't like and don't want to be in, if I had known better then I could have valued the importance of time. Much appreciated! Thank you.

What he is describing about his life is what I call the "Genius Trilemma". You're so good at everything that choosing one thing would be to surgically remove so many other passions from your life. You become so free to do what you will that your freedom entombs you.

You have just made me realize, that quitting part is why I’ve advanced in life beyond where all my contemporaries are, everytime I quit I’ve ended up finding something better (I quit poverty, I quit ignorance I quit patriarchy I quit stupid religious beliefs and traditions in my journey so far) I most especially felt that nugget about perseverance being easier to do than quitting, it’s helping me understand why so many good people are stuck in places they deserve better than.

When I was in grad school, my dept head once told me several years ago, "know when to quit" and I consider that to be one of the best pieces of advice I've had to-date. What I call "Institutional-loyalism" is one of the primary reasons why people could be unhappy. This is a great talk and I think it's on par with Steve Jobs' talk.

Deepak, Great Speech! You have a lot of heart and that is what made your speech so powerful. I think the idea of quitting often may be a slight mistake. Our generation has gotten to used to quitting early. Your idea is rooted in finding who you are and reaching your full potential. I agree with that. God has given you a gift you should consider giving more inspirational speeches to help people find their way in life.

Hi Sir, It was really a good speech, Lot of people don't know where to start,n where to stop and This speech is not for making a carrier. this speech is really lovable and true for selecting a carrier what each and every humans have in their inner-heart hiding for external needs There are 2 lines which is very powerful "Don't quit something it is hard Quit something because it sucks" & "Quitting is crazy ??? Doing something for the rest of your life is not right for you .. That's what crazy"

I think Prof Malhotra kind of went with the tone when someone asked how can he quit at later age in life. All those who are in advanced age will tend to agree. I think it is the degree to which you will quit, there is a age when you can just change or quit but there is a age when you can quit to your tolerance level. Most people know their underlying theme as age advances and they don't have to quit more often. But anyway I could not ignore and watched it on my phone with full heart. I got confused few times with Deepak Chopra but at the end knew this is not Dr. Sanjay Gupta even but Prof Deepak Malhotra of art of negotiation. It is always a nice thing to hear anyone coming from India or attached to Indianism when US ignores biggest elections with no headline and so many Indian Professors speak their heart to their students than linear knowledge of others. Nice talk, I did quit in my life as many times as I wanted and I am going to do that again at advanced age though this decision was taken before the talk and I have very drastically different conditions than majority. Prof Malhotra did mention that when basic needs are at stake you may not be able to quit which I think is still possible, it is just one life but you have to know by going through NDE.

Good speech. Quit early n quit often resembles to my lyf. Finally i am doing something that i really lyk n the fun part is i never knew about this quality in me. The point is when u do a job or something then money don't matter much. U automatically make money without thinking about it much coz u r giving ur 100% to ur work. But when u r nt happy frm inside n think ur job a routine that has to be completed u won't be happy even though u r making lot of money coz money can't buy happiness.

Great, clear speech. I think 'circumstance' and 'choice' are quite interconnected. The nature of the circumstance (enough money for rent, food, family etc) heavily influences the choices one makes (whether to change to be 'happier'). In some cases it's more flexible and hence quitting might be easier, to keep searching for deep happiness and satisfaction. But, considering your audience, it makes more sense alluding to the subjective, perceived constraints than the objective ones, as you did :)

I'm having similar questions to the people asking on here. Regarding the entire profession of physical therapy. I got into it because my biggest goal is to live as long and healthy as possible and to share how to do that with the world. I have noticed that in the process of keeping up with all the rules and guidelines a lot of therapists look like crap. Also, physical therapists are statistically more likely to get sued the longer they practice. There is this dogma though that you have to do the more mentally complex jobs and move towards management to be a good therapist. The pressure is constant and in the form of therapists spouting off their opinions about your choices although they would probably make the same choices in some of the situations I have been in. I took a job that pays way less but is more sophisticated about a month ago. It was pitched as a full time job but is turning out to be way more part time. The times I am working block me doing side jobs too. :*( I understand that my resume is worse for doing the more simplistic home health jobs. I am not so happy getting home too tired to work out and take care of myself. It feels crazy doing this like you say but I can't imagine telling all the patients and coworkers why I am quitting after only 3 months. Hmm. Not sure how to feel or act on this one but I told my wife I kind of wish they never called and tempted me with the offer. Plus, the PT world is a small world. If I quit now at least it's not a significant part of my resume so I feel a pressure to hurry and act. This pressure is countered by the pressure to the community. I wish it was all more anonymous like home health with less people watching. Thoughts please.
