Ishtiaq Ahmed was born in Lahore on 24 February 1947. He was a professor at Stockholm University till 2007. He has been a visiting professor at various universities and is an honorary senior fellow of the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore. Ahmed's research interests are diverse, including political Islam, ethnicity and nationalism, human and minority rights, and partition studies. His book, Pakistan, a Garrison State: Origins, Evolution, Consequences, pioneered a new framework to understand Pakistan. Another book, The Punjab Bloodied, Partitioned and Cleansed: Unravelling the 1947 Tragedy through Secret British Reports and First-Person Accounts, won many awards, including the best non-fiction book award in 2013 at both the Karachi and Lahore literary festivals. What a favour Jinnah did to the Hindus, Christians, Sikhs and others in India, will ever be grateful, but alas only half the job was done. I absolutely believe in two-nation theory, they can't live with neither the Hindus nor Christians nor Sikhs nor parsis nor Buddhist, not even with the ahmadis nor shias nor apostates now EVEN with themselves. In an ironic way, Jinnah greatly helped India by keeping the majority of extremist and separatist Muslim population out of India. Majority of Muslims voted for the partition all over India, which was a treason against the motherland. However, without the partition, Muslim population of undivided India would have been 40% of the total population now. Being ideological and group thinking, Radical Muslims would have pushed jihadi religious politics in undivided India, which would have greatly hindered India's growth. Therefore, Indians should be greatly thankful to Jinnah for the partition of India. 🙏🏽🇮🇳🙏🏽

Superb speech by Ishtiaq. His command on the words and the delivery was world class. One small error about Modi not in the bracket of "secularism" is surprising. Modi's model of devlopment for all citizens of India is documented. The muslim community obtained the fruits of development more than the other communities during Modi regime. The muslim mindset and the madrassa leanings in India prevent them from having modern education especially the girl child. Hope the trend will change slowly and all citizens especially the muslims will believe that nation first and then religion.

They found a smart Muslim attorney named Jinnah who was frustrated with Congress .The reason of frustration was his unfulfillable desire to become first PM of free India. One correction is required that Jinnah Sb was actually hired by feudals of this region who were apprehended when Congress stated that they would bring land reforms in Indianapolis after getting independence. Hence in order to safeguard their uncountable land, they approached to Mr. Jinnah. How can you pull the masses without giving any big slogan, which was then two nation theory came into being.

There isn't a single occassion where they haven't praised India for its secular values and the tremendous strides it has made in the STEM fields. They are under no obligations to praise India anyway as they are pakistanis. Prof Ishtiaq is brave enough to portray Jinnah as the villian in his book on Jinnah and before calling him names first go and read it, which I have done. He has even said that Jinnah was an extremely arrogant man and insulting towards most of his ministers, including the prime minister. We maybe doing a lot better than pakistan but we still have many problems that are even worse than that of Pakistan. Rather than gloating about our achievements all the time, we need to work on bettering the lives of the millions who stil live in abject poverty and without the basic necessities of life. The speaker is so confused and still has ideas of Abul Kalam Azad - no partition and Muslim dominance. The real problem is not the numbers - it is the psyche of the people - the moment you accept India as your own and rest of the people as your siblings -things would have been normal - the moment you identify with conquerers from other countries and just go by the hard line concepts of Islam - you can never have peace of mind. He is trying a narrative the Muslims in india or subjugated - the Hindu majority ensures their well being and survival of various sects in Islam - the day population balance is lost - you can see the conditions that exist in Pakistan will come to india. The people in Middle East understood what is good for them and started thinking differently - that is still lacking in sub continent. Prof Istiaq you are referring to Motilal Nehru Report on future of India post Independence has major flaw. The report, I have not read though, promotes 2 national languages Hindi and Urdu, it would have completely alienated more than two third of united india. Indian subcontinent is rich heritage of languages with their own script and culture to back it. Fortunately enough, our founders Nehru/Baba Saab Ambedkar / Gandhi recognised that and made all major languages as official languages. Today, the beauty is United proud India yet being diverse. @vasukinagabhushan: Religious differences within a religion is common in other religions as well. It is the "Class struggle" which is dangerous. There is no concept of "Ashrafi" and "Pasmanda" Muslims within Islam. Exploitation of the poor by the rich is a social and economic issue all over the world. Irrespective of the above, Since we, the Muslims, have lived for over a thousand years along side with Hindus in India, it is possible for some of the the richer and educated Muslims to adopt the attitudes of the Hindu 'Higher' Castes. This speech might be good and enlightening for Pakistanis but for majority of Hindus in India it's of no concern. India isn't confused about its identity, it's the Pakistanis. Even Bengali Muslims see themselves very clearly as Bengali, but this isn't true for Indus valley Muslims. Indus valley Muslims are mostly wild fanatics, and don't value education, philosophy, or any kind of refinement in life and are in fact proud of it. And to even go a step further, the lingua franca for Indus valley had to be imported from Delhi as well. Such is the level of barbarism that even a language in which you could talk and teach doesn't exist in that territory.

You failed to mention that savarkar proclaimed 2 nation theory well before jinnah did 0. Hindu mahasabha formed govt in alliance with Muslim league in sindh and Bengal province. Alliance continued even after proclamation of Pakistan resolution by Muslim league in the year 1940. 2nd . Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was finance minister in the infamous ministry of allegedly anti Hindu chief minister fazle haq of Bengal province. 2nd . Like others you also concealed the fact that under 1935 British govt act voting was allowed only to literate . 1951 census records our literacy as 18 % . Therefore divisive elections of 1946 conducted in which less then 18 % Indians were eligible voters. 3rd . You failed to mention the fact that in frontier province Muslim league badly defeated by efforts of ghaffar khan and congress won handsomely . I think it is high time that so called intellectual should think beyond laws of Manu .

Finally a well-educated guy who thinks and speaks straight! The dream of a semi-modern military dominated Islamic Caliphate utopia failed! The nation invested in madrassahs instead of Universities. No religious reform movement to undo ridiculous anti-blasphemy laws and so failed to attract foreign investment.
