We live in a paradise in the mountains of California. It is stunning here, though summers have always been very hot. But, conditions are changing rapidly as temperatures quickly rise and precipitation patterns shift. Wildfires, which used to burn near our town every few decades, are now burning down homes and businesses every other year. The insurance company I was with for fifteen years dropped our coverage and stopped issuing new policies in our and other states. Fires have also doubled our electricity costs as the utility monopolies try to figure out how to distribute electricity without killing more of their customers with catastrophic fires. It is becoming too expensive to live here and we are thinking of moving. But where? Next, the primary problem, the problem driving our increasing water, food and other resource shortages, driving the extinction of species and the destruction of the Earth’s life support systems, and increasingly brutal human conflicts, is overpopulation. Overpopulation and ignorance and greed will soon wipe out most life on Earth. And we won’t begin to act until it is too late.

Of the 16 total comments, only 10 are showing by default, with 6 hidden from view. The reason for this is that KZbin AI decides what qualifies as a 'Top comment', and 'Top comments' is the default comment view. They use this method to remove what they consider to be 'undesirable' comments. You can see for yourself just what such 'undesirable' comments are by switching the 'Sort by' option to 'Newest first' as this will reveal the 6 hidden. Channel owner: You can set to display 'Newest first' as the default in your publish options should you prefer that all comments get a fair chance at being seen and read.

We've crossed 7 of the 9 planetary boundaries now; a newer study just confessed to the 7th.. What are we even doing online? We have NASA, NOAA, Hansen & Fenech going full doomer, while a bunch of careerists are still selling 1.5C hopium & scrambling for degree mill degrees. I've been hearing "If we don't act now" my entire long life. I've also watched every pertinent attribute and chart accelerate in the wrong direction for the duration of that long life.

@antonyjh12342 ай бұрын
Do you think the message should be stopped? People haven't acted and the business of government is business causing that acceleration, the govt is behind all confusion and delays so the only thing that can be done is personal action and millions of people are attempting that, it was 23 June 1988 that New York times had on the front page that we must change and Hansen was in front of the UN giving the same message, Senior Bush is on video saying "We had a choice between the environment or jobs" and did anybody refuse money in the last 40 years? Did people spend less since then? No, of course not and ultimately the govt was able to keep business as usual by allowing funding of "interest groups" that would say global warming wasn't real, they allowed the slow pace of change and that long ago I didn't have a computer so on the other side of the world I wouldn't have seen the headline and if I did it would have just been another headline, since then oil companies and govt have worked actively against change, where people from the late 60's and to Earth day, thought things were in hand so they went back to work. I was only thinking about this yesterday, imagine being Hansen, he's still having to deal with the world saying climate change isn't real, like a doctor telling a patient to stop doing what is killing them he can't force the world and the message doesn't change to a diabetic so what or who are you angry about, have you cut consumption 90% of what you consumed in the last three decades and if not 90% how much less consumption do you do than a decade or so ago?

The most direct path away any resilience to extreme weather is relocalization. Take up the challenge you make your town city of neighborhood as self contained as possible for the basics: good water power, fibers any building materials. Think of it as a challenge. It builds resilience any decouples from the global economy supply chains. Take the challenge to build the most comfortable life from what’s around you, *that* is an advanced culture.
