While Mearsheimers arguments are generally qualitative, I think it’s based on data from the inherent nature of big powers. His argument about China is simple, that China will begin to behave like the Western powers should she be sufficiently militarily and economically powerful. This is what wealthy nations naturally do once they hit that spot. His argument is to contain China in order for her not to reach that level. Again, I don’t know if I agree with that and I am pretty sure Mearsheimer hopes he’s wrong on that, but really that’s what big powers do.

Meanwhile, Russia's military capacity is being significantly degraded every day and they are seemingly unable to fulfill their own strategic objectives, with only limited operational success to show for it. If he's right that the American policy is to completely degrade Russia's capacity (I agree with this point) then its hard to see how Russia taking 600k+ casualties and slogging through the Ukrainian countryside achieving little other than the destruction of dozens of Ukrainian towns isn't a huge success in that regard. The Russians (and Mearsheimer) harped on about how NATO expansion was what caused this conflict and made them feel threatened and isolated. Well lets look at that, NATO is now larger, more unified, and more prepared to confront Russia, than it was on February 23rd 2022.

Judge, I’m a lawyer from Australia. I watch your channel frequently and find it extremely informative. Your guests are the best. I do however have a slight criticism meant in good faith. In recent interviews you have sometimes cut off your guests when they are in mid sentence or mid point. Evident in this interview with Mearsheimer and yesterday with Prof Doctorow. Also with Prof Doctorow who was giving an interesting alternative view on recent Putin remarks and what went down with Biden, Starmer and the Pentagon- you cut him off. We are all frustrated with this crazy escalating situation but I think the alternate views are essential to try to understand the situation. Here in Australia it is of considerable importance as our government is hopelessly aligned and militarily tied to the US (like Europe) and they drag us in to all their useless damaging conflicts. We have US military bases on our soil, and major US facilities, including a major satellite surveillance facility in the centre of Australia, that will be targets in any conflict with the super powers. As a university student in the 1980’s we demonstrated against this installation. There have been many more US affiliations ever since that put us at risk. if any war breaks out with Russia or China we will be on the list. The US saber rattling with China is a serious problem for us. Best regards and thank you for your channel.

The question i think that should be asked is how to get Israeli lobbies out of American politics so that American leaders can make decisions that best serve American citizens ans treat foreign countries fairly. Why and how did we get to the point of everyone fearing Iarael and speaking against attrocities? If Mexico invaded southern USA will those ranchers in the SouthWest just accept it and not fight for their land?

Israeli IDF is in its own dilemma in the North and Gaza. Question is Will USA go to war with Hezbollah and Iran in support of Israel and to what extent. Russia will help Iran with weapons and Air defense -System.. already Russian air defenses were shipped eight weeks - now operational. Israelis can not have Northern Israel unpopulated with Hezbollah striking .daily Northern Israel. If NATO partner -like British, French, German joint in with Israel. Escalation will happen dragging Russian, North Koran and China will not allow Iran to be obliterated.

The last question from Judge and its related comment from John, lead us to assert that USA will do all it can to ceasefire in Gaza. Because ; Assuming Worn out IDF with the Naval and air assets use by USA will succeed in destroying Hezbullah and force coercion, the USA cannot predict how events will evolve during the operation, in the Midleast . Stakes are too high for USA to loose their political assets in the region , if the strreets in Israel Jordan Turkey & Egypt revolt ! or worse both the people and regimes rally to take advantage of a weak IDF and Israel - which is the most valuable asset to USA !

Thank you for the discussion. However the pager/personal device incident was discussed as though it is just another incident of aggression. It isn’t. This act of terror reaches new levels of depravity, insanity and utter disregard for humanity, violating international laws and threatening peace for all. It needs to be condemned as totally unacceptable and cannot be dismissed as another act of aggression. The perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice.

Using the pager explosions as a means to coerce Hezbollah into a ceasefire makes no sense to me. The explosions are small stealthy offenses. Even if Israel would agree to a ceasefire, adherence to any agreement with Israel is highly questionable. Further it would function like paying ransom to a kidnapper. It would only incentivize the kidnapper to repeat the offense for more ever more demands. Thus, the reaction should be, and was, that Lebanon sees this as a declaration for war, not a demonstration of what Lebanon would look like without a ceasefire. Instead of appeasing the kidnapper, one should take him to prison!

Apparently Russia still exports some extremely critical goods to it's so called unfriendly countries, I have heard from two separate sources that uranium was being exported to the United States and that might still be the case, then there is the fact that the oil industry is a little bit more complex than most of us think it is and apparently the United States does not produce all of the types of oil that it needs, If this is true then surely anyone can see that Russia has no need to retaliate in a military way at all, all they have to do is stop trading completely with their "enemy" , and sorry but war is also a extremely profitable business, as is the threat of war

I really can't understand why people think Russia would nukes against Ukraine (maybe if NATO troops were fighting there). But the family and ethnic connections are too strong for them to do that. If they were to use nukes it would be against NATO targets outside of Ukraine. And that most certainly includes the US mainland. Non-nuclear weapons can be used anywhere. But the nukes are for NATO state targets.
