*MUST READ* Real reason is that Pokemon anime starting was based on yellow from manga . In the manga , Lance is shown to be extremely evil and he attacks RED (the protagonist) because red was interfering with the evil E4 business. In last attempt of survival, Red released his Pikachu and told it to run away and return to help Red when it find someone strong and good trainer . Pikachu rans into YELLOW (a young kid starting her journey) and at start , Pikachu doesn’t like Yellow controlling it because it thinks yellow isnt its true trainer . In Anime , Ash is based on Yellow , that’s the unexplained reason why Pikachu didn’t like Ash in the beginning and why Pikachu was so resistant all the time . Gradually, both Yellow and Ash gain trust of their respective Pikachu . Also, both Pikachus dont like going into pokeball . Its is unexplained in anime why it hates that , but manga Pikachu doesn’t like that because Lance captured all the Red’s Pokemon that were in pokeballs and Pikachu was only one who escaped running away after being released . Fun fact - Yellow Alone fought the Most Bravest and Underdog battle in the Manga against Lance’s Army and defeated Lance . Red’s Pikachu returned to Red in the Happy Ending 🔥

For anyone that are confused. Oak purposely gave Ash a pikachu since Kid Oak stumbled on present day Ash with a Pikachu. To be fair, the reason Ash couldn't choose the other three was because he actually really was late, and they were all taken already. He happened to have this Pikachu he caught and gave it to Ash. Technically, it's supposed to be because he remembered from his time travel journey, but prior to the movie (which hadn't been planned until well into the Johto anime, which is why the GS ball got forgotten, it was originally supposed to be the Celebi plot, but got scrapped for the movie) it was just because Pikachu was all he had left, and he was hesitant to give it to Ash because it was so independent and would not listen to anyone. The movie retcons this later on.

No, it's just a pyramids made by aliens tier conspiracy. In the show, Ash breaks his alarm, causing him to be late. All the other kids grabbed a pokemon before him, so Oak offered Ash a pokemon, trying to warn him that Pikachu has a... Temper, I guess. In real life, this decision was because they didn't want to choose one of the three starters, for favoritism, instead having Ash catch all 3 later on.
