European conservativism is classically non-liberal, or anti-liberal. In the US, mainstream conservatism is classically liberal.

The crucial difference is between liberals and non-liberals. There is a non-liberal left and a non-liberal right, and a liberal right and a liberal left. The alt right is non-liberal. The alt-light is liberal.

Interesting discussion. I find that I disagree with Prof Main (a likeable man) on a great deal, in particular his argument (as I understand it) that the threat to liberal democracy comes from the Right rather than the Left, and I find myself wondering how he can have such different perceptions. I do not read the 'alt-right' and I am not even sure what it is but I have watched a number of videos which might fall under that description. It seems to comprise largely people who have come to the realization that they are being lied to on a grand scale and who then explain what these lies are. I am convinced that political correctness and the media are a kind of 'meta-fantasy' and I do not find that the 'alt-right' have a very good understanding of this or that their insights are all that valuable. However, they are quite right that they are being lied to and their instincts are sound!

Just to add that whereas the alt-right do not understand things all that well this is nothing compared to the delusion on the Left (which has long dominated the centre). They do not appear to be capable of understanding anything but are just caught up in the fantasy. And also just to take up his mention of Black Live Matter, who he says have some good things to say and some not so good. What have they said that is of any value whatsoever?
