Everyone else: "Yeah i got better since I drew this." Julia: "I have ascended like, five layers of existence since I made this."

In comparison to the other guys? Yes but I think Julia might have drawn it in at a later point in her life in, on top of that she specifically chose this one, that doesn't necessarily mean it's her oldest. That's in defence of the other three who really started from their darker beginnings.

@@DreamerFromTheDepths - It's pretty similar to Nathan's drawing.
@DreamerFromTheDepths4 жыл бұрын
@@lettuceprime4922 I guess Nathan's the one who made the most improvements. (This next edit is a little bit long, but I think I could explain what I mean better with this.) (It's not really about how many years passed, it's more about how much they improved since they were drawn, outside of Julia we have faint implications of when they were drawn, Nathan drew his six years ago, Jacob drew his before that, and Karina drew hers when she was a teenager, out of them all I think Karina and Jacob improved the most, out of them all Julia improved the least, because as said before, it was a style change, not an improvement, Julia herself mentions that she liked the drawing she picked and just wanted to draw it again, it's not necessarily breaking the rules, but it does make her look better than everyone else.)
@Mira-yo4sh3 жыл бұрын
@@DreamerFromTheDepths im like, really late to this but I'm watching this video again & going through the comments soo yea But yea, Julia definitely has the least stylistic change in hers & it does make her look better. But what I think has happened is that her techniques have changed, not much the style. Which is also a valid improvement just not as visual. My style hasn't really changed during the past year, but I've evolved in other ways. Now i actually have an idea how to do digital art :")

Mary Desrosiers Hi! I don’t know what your art style is but I just wanna let you know that soft shading is ok sometimes! Using a mixture of hard and soft edges is your friend, Here’s what I mean : www.deviantart.com/vetyr/art/More-edge-tips-668385814 And this one... www.deviantart.com/vetyr/art/Edges-624600004 also be careful when using any random tutorial of google, some of them are really bad...
@foxygrin4 жыл бұрын
@@parhelichor whether or not the shadow's edge is blurry depends on what kind of shadow it is. Is it a: A) cast shadow, think the shadow on the ground behind a tree. These are sharp. B) form shadow, a much less intense shadow wrapping around the form, say from the middle of the tree to the edge of the tree. That one's going to be blurry. A lot of cell shaded art only has cast shadow like shading. Only having form shadows never really works though, it's generally too muddy. I personally use both, but it really depends on your style.
@MrWTFgameplay4 жыл бұрын
Mary Desrosiers if you want an artist that explains shadows and forms well just watch sinixdesign. He explains how hard edges, lost(soft) edges, detail in shadow, colour in shadow work. Basically if there is something you don’t know about how forms, folds, shadows, reflections, light and detail work (in correspendence to eachother as well) then he has a video. And though his colouring technique is painting for most of the time, his techniques will probably apply to whatever style you have since they are both simplifications and in-depth studies of the basics. What i’m trying to say is that he is just a good teacher when it comes to art (and sometimes being a good person :D). He even teaches at pretty good schools and conventions. Pls do yourself and him a favor and check him out, you might like it!

@teaartist64553 жыл бұрын
To be fair, I'm pretty sure that about 80% of it usually looking bad comes from, ya know, it being an easy thing beginners grab when they want some shading and thus generally being used by people that already don't really have a lot of experience. But then you kinda have to become good to make suboptimal tools work and the best way to do that is use tools that are more suited to a job since trying to do good things while your tools are actively fighting you is really frustrating and makes even just getting better itself so much harder. (Definitely the case with watercolours, if you want to start, use decent paper and decent paints. Maybe ask a friend if you can borrow some but the watercolours we give kids really aren't suited for actually painting with them.)
