I also noticed how gentle they were dancing... It gives such a different feeling, since usually they go so hard and make their movements sharp and strong. Even with other chill choreographies that are more similar to this one (Boy With Luv, Dynamite, Butter, etc), they usually give a more flirtatious or playful vibe... But this was almost subdue and delicate, weightless.

@@HerQuietLife They said they wanted people to "dance with us, make dance covers" when releasing Dynamite, Butter and PTD. So yes, it's evidently an intentional choice. But, it's also because the choreography has to fit the song and PTD is not harsh sounding.

Your reaction is why they made this song and MV. ARMY who complain about it being in English or don't like the use of extras don't understand what BTS is communicating to the world with this song. Ray of Hope indeed.

A lot of their dances since Suga has recovered from surgery have been simple and a little bit more about the music. Especially since their songs have been in English too. I'm not sure if it's because of Yoongi's recovery or singing in a different language. But you're totally right. If they went hard with dance and choreo it wouldn't have complimented the meaning of the song - which is you can have fun and dance whenever you want. I also believe the idea behind the simple dance moves is that they're intentionally supposed to be mimicked. Jungkook mentioned that he wanted the Army to be able to dance with them together. Just some thoughts.

I do believe Yoongi’s recovery from surgery has a lot to so with the easier choreo of late. If you’ve ever seen a video compilation of Yoongi grimacing after a shoulder move, it’s just heartbreaking to watch 😭😭😭 So glad he’s well now. 💜💜💜

The choreo is meant for people to copy, hence the simple moves. Even my old bones can jive to the song, like a light aerobic. As a dancer you want to dance with them but other reactors just want to hang out with them seeing how crackheads they can be.

Releasing the purple balloon is suppose to be a message of Hope that the Pandemic will end. I think V was a big influence in this video. With V being the creator of "I Purple You", and now Purple being a official color for BTS. "I left a purple balloon in your dream" was a message that V sent to comfort one Army during Covid. V has also has been using a lot of sign language lately. So I think that he had them include it into this video as to help more Army to be able to understand this Video. V is a very thoughtful and caring person as well as the other members. Sign Language: Scratching their body while raising thumb and slightly benting rest of fingers means "Fun". Moving two fingers side to side on top of palm means "Dancing". Fingers up and down touching thumb means "Talking". Two fingers moving means "Walking". And holding up two fingezrs also means "Peace". This was a Celebration of the End of Covid and Army (Showing different Ages, Genders, Nationalities, Jobs/Roles/Frontline Workers, Diversity, and including their own Crew and staff). That was their crew and staff at the end of video. BTS Loves their Army and not wanting to leave out anyone. With what we have gone through this song has brought many people to tears of joy that we still get through this.

Thoughts about the simplicity of the PtD choreo: Years ago, Jin famously shared that he was hoping that once they had enjoyed some success, the choreo would get easier. But, he complained, IT WASN'T HAPPENING! It was one of his funniest rants. He was so emphatic. BTS continued doing high energy pieces like ON. Jin kept on dancing and kept up with the others year after year. Then finally came Permission to Dance. Not only was it a gentler routine, but as you can see here - 23:00-23:10 - Jin even had a bit that made him look like he was cueing the others when to do their steps. In every performance, he really owned it like he'd been a choreographer his whole life. So in my mind, Permission to Dance was the long awaited answer to Jin's request. 😊 Then they came out with Yet to Come, which they usually performed while sitting in chairs! 🙃

I think part of the reason for the somewhat simplified choreography on this song is that they wanted listeners to participate in the dancing. They even put out a challenge for videos to be submitted where people were dancing to the music.

Random thought I just had: having the simple dance moves really reiterates the lyrics of the song that "we don't need permission to dance" -- so everyone can really just stand and move along?? Ahh don't be embarrassed about having feelings ahahaha this song is meant to remind us that there will be happier days to come and the past year+ have been pretty...challenging. Plenty of us who watched also felt emotional hahaha and omg yesssssss hobi has been especially eye-catching this comeback to me for some reason. Especially in the dance practice!! His smile is rly one of the best things in the world ugh

It's just so wholesome. One of my favourite things bout BTS is they always seem to release a style of song or album that we need in the moment. I found with the BE album last year, they poured their feelings about the way things were into it. It was an expression of all the lost and confused and a bit hopeful feelings that I think resonated with everyone. And with PTD it's just so optimistic, and hopeful and inclusive. It's just what we need at the moment, and yes it does make me cry. I can't remember if it was in the countdown before the MV went live or in the MV itself, but you can read the headlines on the front of the magazine Jimin was holding, and it was about how 2022 was a new start, and the purple balloons being realised is a symbol of COVID being over, and being able to start healing. I know the purple balloons are already a symbol for ARMY, but the little bit extra about the balloons being a bigger symbol for healing and all the extras in the video seeing the balloons and dancing and taking off their masks had me weeping like a baby.

Great reaction video! Thanks for reviewing this song! A few things I wanted to mention: - In an interview BTS mentioned that they hoped this song would encourage people to get up and dance. That's maybe why they picked choreo that was easier for most people to follow - In the teaser for the MV, they show a newspaper with an article that says purple balloons signify the end of Covid. That's why there are so many purple balloons and towards the end you see people taking off their masks after the purple balloons are released - I read this somewhere and it made me appreciate the MV more, the MV focuses on some of the people who were hit the hardest due to Covid - teachers, service workers (wait staff), postal service workers, people with disabilities, kids. They really put a lot of thought into the message behind this video!

Since the pandemic...Dynamite, Butter, Permission to Dance are all easy going feel good choreography. They made this choice on purpose. No hard drive grinding difficult choreography is appropriate at this time!!! You are right. They all deliver hope and joy with their smiles and fun music. They knew you would be crying. They knew it would touch your heart. Their concept with these 3 songs works. And everyone loves it! Number 1 on Billboard...all 3 songs. You do know they put out a PTD dance challenge to everyone on KZbin. "Anyone can pick it up." You got it. This choreography is for everyone. Even people who dance down the grocery aisles!!. So of course they made it simple to include everyone...no matter age, disability, dance ability, gender, ..... One thing you didn't catch and Jimin does it in most all of his dances, he lands with his feet in 3rd position...and many end poses in 3rd position too. He also walks forward walking in model mode. One foot crossing over in front of the other.

This song is amazing, and you're exactly right about the message and the easier dancing. I watched the video of them making this and they said they wanted it to encapsulate the feeling of joy and hope that we'll feel when the pandemic is finally under control and we're back to normal. I'm not sure if you picked up on it, but that's the whole reason for the purple balloons, and it's actually shown somewhere in the video. They also wanted the dance moves to be easy enough for anyone to be able to do it.

This song was created, from beginning to end, as a gift to ARMY. Part of that is easy choreography that everyone can do, inclusiveness for everyone (old, young, all races, the deaf, etc., etc.). Its message also supports and gives hope to those most affected by the pandemic around the world - frontline workers (retail, restaurants), the elderly, teachers, janitors/cleaning crews, children. I think that message is SO deeply ingrained in this video that many of us can't help but have the same visceral reaction that you did. There is joy, hope, a tinge of sadness, and that feeling that we've all been in this together. BTS makes me very proud to be ARMY at the age of 55. 💜😊💜 They are also cooking up something with KZbin Shorts related to this song - that announcement is coming soon.

a note on them dancing to adapt a western audience its actually on purpose, they tend to do that as well with the tone and style of the songs that they promote in japan, so its mostly just a bts thing to sort of show their range or versatility if youd like to see it that way, as they have been putting all english solos targeting american audiences they put it as a priority to be able to connect with the ""style ""but again, they do the same with the japanese albums, the tone matches the vibe of japan and their korean projetcs (most of their discography lol) its also relatable to them so yep a nice thing to see

"I would love to dance with them." Then make it happen. The choreographer for "On" submitted choreography of her dance troupe to Big Hit. They loved it!!!When you watch the first outdoor MV and many other versions...at Grand Central Station...she is dancing with them. The opening shot ...she is center stage...front row. She is originally from Hawaii. Her story is quite interesting. Anyway, come up with some amazing unique idea for choreography and send it in! I am a retired choreographer. When I hear music, I see dance. I have embarrassed my family my whole life dancing down the aisles of grocery stores whilst holding on to the shopping cart. I have lots of ideas for BTS. I am going to take action and get the ideas to BTS. I know I'm on the right track because I already had the idea for them to incorporate sign language into their choreography. My other idea that has come true is for BTS to represent South Korea for peace missions. Recently their President asked them to lead a mission to the United Nations. They will be in NY this fall. My opinion...I don't think they should have to serve their 2 years of military service in training, but to serve 2 years in Peace Missions. They already have their own army all over the world!!! I look forward to see you dancing with BTS. In the on site MV PTD their choreographer IS dancing with them in the back row!!!

They made the choreo or dance steps of PTD easy intentionally so every body or anybody can dance to it even people with disability like hearing impairment can joint and dance as you don't need permission to dance. Just be happy is the message.

Thank you Emeroy! Thank you BTS! Yes to hope! Yes to helping each other overcome what we are experiencing! Thank you Armies and non-armies alike for enjoying the song! Thank you to the song writer/s - Ed Sheeran, et al. Thank you for the choreograpers and everyone behind the scene. This song, the MVs, the live performances, the reactions/reactors, the listeners, it is just so ... it is so surprising how all of these can make most of us emotional and hopeful and happy! I just wish this pandemic will end soon. Let us all continue spreading this kind of "positivity" helping each and everyone survive! Borahae to all!

I think you missed the move when they did the tapping of the shoulders. The part of the lyrics is "we don't need to worry" like they were comforting each other.

I love the inclusivity in the music video. I'm hard of hearing and support my daughter's love of BTS. I felt included when I saw the sign language used. I enjoyed this video, very honest and unbiased review. Will subscribe.

this is such a feel-good song and MV. I wasn't a fan the first time I saw it but it really grew on me (yeah, I watched it like a dozen of times by now). I watched a reaction on this MV from a video editor today and it's really interesting to see a video analyzed from different points of view.

thank you for sharing your genuine reaction! the message of the song and the music video is exactly what you described! and being from a country where c*vid is still taking over our lives and still on a lockdown, the video was a ray of hope, that the day would come when i'll actually get to feel summer air outside of my home, that I'd meet my friends without beinf scared of them and for them! that day will come eventually. but I thank BTS for giving me a reminder that life will go on

I’m only a third of the way though your video, but I just got to the point where you start crying. This choreo and performance is amazing because it is so intentionally inclusive! As a dancer, a choreographer and a member of the disability community the first thing I noticed about the flash mob part was how easily it could be adapted for limited mobility and to a seated position. I thought the fingers dancing on a palm was kind of a weird choice and that’s when it hit me that it must sign language. It’s absolutely incredible!!! I don’t think I have ever seen artists on this scale create a piece of work that was this inclusive. AND they did it in a way where they didn’t tokenize a person with a disability or use disability as inspiration porn. It’s just there, and accessible. There wasn’t some call or push back that forced them to be inclusive they just did it! The members do an amazing job at staying enthusiastic and selling the choreo even though it isn’t as technically challenging as the rest of the performance catalog. They put just as much energy and intensity into this as they do Dionysus. They don’t write it off because it isn’t as challenging for them! This makes the accessibility aspect of the dance shine. It doesn’t look like some lame “we had to adapt this so here you go I guess” it looks fun and like everyone is invited to the party. This really is such a special moment and I hope other artists are paying attention

I'm surprised that you haven't seen much of their early stuff. You should at least check out the dance practices, or maybe a 'best of compilation'. This was back when they were practicing 12-14 hours a day and it shows. You may recognize some of the names behind the choreography. Could you guess the choreographer by watching the dance? All dance practices can be found at BANGTANTV, their official channel.

The on site MV is an arid desert type place. Cowboy attire was appropriate there. Make sure you see that original version. I do love the choreography except for one part I don't think fits. I am going to see if you catch which part. You did find out that they used sign language in their choreography. Right?? Way cool.

This makes me so hopeful. I think many people are expecting complicated lyrics and movements, but I think the simplicity of this video allowed us to feel the sincerity of the message. That there is a better life waiting for us. That despite the difficulties we are experiencing, if we held ourselves together and keep that positive energy, we will be dancing again in complete freedom in the not so distant future. If an artist moved you, is it not the best work of art. To have the connection and live that moment. And to be so inclusive that everyone is well represented and reached out. 😭😭😭

Great professional analysis of the choreography. Good job. Yes, this is a really feel good song. I hadn't noticed the WELCOME BACK sign before in the office. If you watch closely, there is a lot of sign language here. Even though the variants are causing the end to be further way, this gives us hope that some day we can be normal again. Well done.
