Actually its relative pitch perfect pitch is that you can name a note by ear but its a Common mistake

The 1st person could very well have taught him something if he was an actual beginner that has never played before. @@darkstar8196 its pointless for beginners, a good music teacher should immediately start you on improvisation theories, they are very simple concepts that are easy to remember, you learn it once and you never forget it. Trying to memorise cover songs note for note is slow and unproductive and if you dont play it for a while you forget it
