I remember landing in Funchal in a Boeing 737-200 before the runway was extended. The flight in now is just another flight.

That seemed like a very smooth landing to me. The last time I went we had to abort landing twice, then we got differted to Tenerife for a fuel stop after flying in a circle for ages flew back to Madeira but could not land again eventually after about 6 or so hours on the plane we had to land at Porto Santo Island and got taken by boat to Funchal.

That’s incredible that you went through all that! Had a similar experience, BA flight from London, three aborted landings and a trip to Porto santo for refuel, wait and try again fourth time lucky, four hours late, but Madeira is worth it 😉👍

I love how all these airports are labelled as "DANGEROUS" yet the FAA allows passenger planes to fly to them. Makes me think it isn't dangerous after all, and just a bit more of a challenge than normal.

This was a very smooth landing, not dangerous at all. Thumbs down for misleading title. Have a look at some other videos of Madeira to see gusty crosswind landings and they are not dangerous even if they look challenging..

@@santiagolegnazzi8059 Still not right. There is no commercial dangerous airports, they would never be certified and opened. All these dangerous landings, airports and approaches people are talking about is so misleading. All of it is regulated and safe. Way way safer than driving, cycling etc.

Applauses are when a captain or the 1st officer lands the aircraft.... Its a entirely different thing that they land smoothly always but when some nervous passengers fly & find the landing smooth there is this phenomenon of applause.

It is considered one of most dangerous airport in the airport to land coz of its terrain and the challenging crosswinds.... Only trained captains for this airport are allowed to take off and land the aircraft....
