Madeira is very beautiful island - I can recommend it to everyone. But our second landing there was really something. We spent 30 minutes circling around, made 5 laps and when we finally landed it was like rollercoaster - wind 19knots, limit that day was 20 knots. I admired the pilots back then and this video is giving me chills.

Thankfully when I first went to Madeira in 1991 I didn't know about the airport's reputation. The second time I didn't know too much either. On my second trip the flight out was delayed by over an hour I think because of a technical issue, possibly to do with the brakes? It was an old BA (or GB airways?) 737 with the little engines.

Its not PIO, its called Madeira airport surprise crosswinds from the valleys on the left side. That is one of the reasons one must have special qualification to land here. There is no room for aerobatic funny PIO in this business, specially when you’re flying passengers in a 25M Jet.

Tell me one thing, how did the cameraman manage to keep interior and exterior equally bright? Most of the times when you focus on bright daylight outside, the inside goes dark and vice versa. It is surely a great video. And pilots were very relaxed and a good CRM between the two too. Because of the angle of camera i thought they were slightly high on short finals
