I love how you showed different lighting effects with just positioning the light and power. @6:49 Did you take that shot on continuous not strobe?
@botvidsson4 жыл бұрын
Thanks José! Haha, yes I can understand that it look like that but I had a PocketWizard camera remote trigger in my pocket. Sometimes the video camera doesn't register that the flash goes of cuz it's so fast. Short answer: I always use strobe
@CharlesSweigart5 жыл бұрын
This is a video to help break peoples notion that was created years ago when most cameras had a built in flash that faces forward. That implied that a light must shine at the subject to take an image, but as Martin shows, the light can be anywhere and you must use its position to the advantage it possesses to get an attractive image.

Do you prefer rectangular or rounded softbox for still life? Or do you have any recommendations and tips in choosing softbox that suits the best? Including its size. Thank you.
@botvidsson4 жыл бұрын
I almost never use soft boxes for products. I use diffusion paper and flash with reflector/grid. For this shot it works fine but now then looking at the result I wish I used a strip box to get the light more even, using my 2x3 box makes the light coming from the center that makes the shadows on the speaker not going straight down. So... what do I recommend? Probably strip boxes, 30x180cm I have, huge, not necessaryprobably. With stip boxes you can control the light easier then a square soft box. I don't own any octa or round soft boxes so I can't recommend that. Probably more for portrait photography.

What you prefer most, what client want, or what you like ? Couse clients sometimes (mostly) have really bad ideas, and photographer has some practise, experience and he knows, mostly too, what is better. Client can be stubborn and If photographer accept clients opinion, idea, it has effect to he s portfolio and quality of work, in finall result can affect future projects, right ?

Hi I am watching your videos with open mouth so great, I have just bought my canon and trying to take pics in small photo booth and product photography but I read a lot but have it on manual, 1/250, f9-11 and iso on 100 but with 2 lights next to the booth my images are dark as possible, can’t even see the product. On iso1400-1600 I get an image but everywhere I read iso100 is one you need. I am almost lost now what to do, want to follow an course soon but just wanted to ask if I forget something easy.. Will the popular 100mm Canon macro lens used with product/food photography work with a budget camera such as the Canon T6?
@botvidsson5 жыл бұрын
I guess T6 is the 2000D here in Europe and I can't see any reason why the 100mm/2.8 Macro should not work. The only thing is that the camera probably have x1.6 crop factor so the 100mm will be like a 160mm lens on that camera, be prepared to move the camera back if you shoot wider shots.

How would you compare Capture One to Lightroom?
@botvidsson4 жыл бұрын
I use Lightroom for editing all my raw images. Capture One I only use for shooting tethered to computer. Probably it would be smoother workflow only using CaptureOne but I haven't taken that step yet. The main reason... actually the ONLY reason I bought Capture One is the live view function when shooting tethered, but it's a fantastic raw editor indeed. Maybe one day...
