Probably resource decision, VR costs more and takes more time to get built, probably thought he'd lose a lot also but after killing the 1st he'd weather down the storm and eventually overcome the dominion armada of Terran :P

It got the much needed buffs, however since still feel Terran needs a buff against Protoss. It seems Terrans have to rely a lot on proxying to get really anywhere against Protoss early on.

benb50001 so it’s not scouted. The oracle may have blown Thermy’s cover. The proxy is why the toss had almost no Anti Air

Susan So the toss can’t scout it. Like if he built the Starport and FC behind his minerals. Adept harass may see it. Which will lead to the toss preparing with more Anti Air. The proxy made it way less likely for the plan to get scouted

In this case it's mostly to hide the tech so the toss can't figure out what you are doing when scouting your base.

@@shiviste7611 Yeah maybe, but then he could have also yamatoed the phoenix or stalker. Void ray's even survive 1 yamato so harstem could have microed them back if they were getting yamatoed. In either case void ray's would be the better option

I assume that he panicked a bit; didn't know how to handle a battlecruiser in his base because nobody builds BCs against Protoss. He might have been worried about build time; void rays take twice as long to produce, so he was probably hoping 3 stalkers and a phoenix could finish the BC off before it erased his mineral line. He just failed to realize that Phoenixes only hit a BC for 4 damage and they'd be completely ineffective. Could also have been worried about the cost, as a void ray costs basically a stalker more than a Phoenix.
