spella actually mentioned that irene and seulgi learned this choreography over the course of 4 months, including learning the basics of tutting. this is really impressive to me since sometimes kpop groups are expected to learn choreographies within a couple of days

also just to add, it seems like SM (the company that produced these idols) are very invested in teaching proper technique when they have dances that pull very hard from a specific style of dance, like how RIIZE got to learn about house style before learning the 'Impossible' choreo. very cool to see!!!

I will never get over the fact that the choreography for every single chorus is different and gets harder as the song progresses. You don’t see that a lot in kpop or in general. The choreographer ate down with this one

I Love that you pointed out that this choreography have some voguing element like ''New Way'' and ''Fems'' and the Choreographers [Spella and Shim Jae Won] wanted the Tutting choreo to be more feminine and Spella actually had some voguing training and took some inspirations from Voguing to her style

To be extra clear he didn't say there is vogue femme hands, just that hands performance is the femme equivalent of old way / new way arms control element. I guess to put it simply the hands are tutting, the arms are new way voguing.

I rarely leave comments, but this video is so quiet, gentle, and nice that it makes me want to watch more. I don't care if this person is a voguer or not; what he said can draw people here and make them trust. He doesn't overreact. Rather, he appears to want to look at how cool the dance is, observe it, and enjoy the rest of the performance professionally. Really like your attitude and your video.
@blairwrelos18912 ай бұрын
Just a little Note: The girls don't have an actual voguing or tutting background. But they did prepare and practice for this release for 6 months with Spella. The company knew that this kind of style needs time to pull off properly ig thus the 6 months preparation. Also there's a video on Steezy where they have Spella come over to explain the whole idea and process of making this choreo. That might be a fun video for you to watch❤

i really recommend you check out Solar. her song 'Colors' is the first time k-pop had a full voguing choreography & it was choreographed by mother Love Ran from House of Love, South Korea's largest kiki house. Solar is not the best dancer in the kpop industry & nobody is claiming that, however she's been platforming queer people & artists since a very long time, & commited to learning the dance as best as she could & also bringing out the kids of House of Love in her performance video for Colors as well as live performances on SK's national TV. Solar is also the leader of the kpop girl group Mamamoo, who make their own music, are known as the safest group for queer people to stan (they even publically call out transphobia coming from their own "fans") & they're the only fandom that has an queer fanclub organization, dedicated to support & this club as been sponsoring Seoul pride for nearly 7 years i believe.
@some1_body2 ай бұрын
Love Ran also choreographed "I'm ready" for Chung Ha, which is definitely has a more "epic" vibe than Colors & is definitely worth checking out. that choreo is more intense than Colors, but Colors (according to Love Ran herself) is the first time a kpop choreo was 100% voguing. Solar is also an honorary member of House of Love. and Chung Ha guested at various events if I recall correctly. Solar and Chung Ha did a show a while ago talking about all their love for voguing and more

in regards to the union of camera and choreo working together, SM Entertainment (the parent company of Red Velvet) is at the forefront of this. Around 2 years ago, they had this entire series called camerawork guide which were dance choreo videos with all these crazy camera movements to blend with the choreo accomplished through a combo of actual cameramen doing crazy stuff (literally being suspended on wires while holding the camera for example) to having programmed arms with preset movements to capture EXACT angles and movements and speed). It's no surprise you pointed that out immediately

Would be really cool to see your thoughts on Chungha's I'm Ready Performance video (includes Love Ran's choreo) and Chungha's Dream of You, and Solar's Colors MV (with choreo by Love Ran and featuring House of Love). ZEROBASEONE'S Hanbin was a professional dancer specialising in waacking and tutting before debuting in the group - he recently featured in an Artist of the Month performance video on the Studio Choom KZbin channel and it features a little bit of his skills? I am already learning so much from your three kpop video reactions and I feel like you would explain what is happening in the above suggestions in a way that really clarifies the elements for someone new to these details (ie me)!

Great video! This is one of my favorite choreos as well. As far as I know, Spella defines her style by tutting + waacking to cast a spell, but I've seen her in an arms control battle (in the Inspiration Ball) and there's also a clip of her dancing to an old way choreo in her channel. I'm someone who started dancing k-pop, grew closer to coordination-based choreographies and recently found the ballroom scene of where I live! I'm baby level, but I dance old way and new way. I like a lot seeing this newer trend of vogue in music videos and it's so nice to share this moment with you, I've been learning a lot with your reaction videos! Thank you so much for these! I would suggest something but I think there are already enough comments doing this, haha, so just good job!

I didn't intend on commenting again because I didn't want to be a pest about my request but you mentioning that you know of Spella got me so excited!! Sung Hanbin is a student of Spella!! He learned from both Titch Ninja and Spella, and was the only male dancer in Spella's personal dance team 💕 Spella helped him choreograph the hand/arm work for his Studio Choom "Artist of the Month" performance, it's truly jaw-droppingly good. I would really love to see your take on it, even if you're giving critique! I also really loved the details you gave in this- explaining the Old Way pyramid was sooo cool, I'd seen that technique used before but didn't realize there was a name for it. Thank you for sharing all this great info with these reactions!

your ''huge tangent'' about how the shape of the stage influences the dance was so interesting to me, and it's so true! i think i read somewhere (not sure if true) that ballet was originally created to be performed in a ballroom without a raised stage, and that that is why a lot of the movements are focused in the upwards direction. maybe the pointe shoes were created for the same reason 🤔

Your « tangent » was incredibly interesting and insightful. As a musician and philosopher (?) among other things, the subject of interplay between the form/format and the content/technique is deeply interesting to me and I loved hearing you talk about it with voguing and tutting. This can also be extended to - as you've also pointed out - the utilization of camerawork in those videos which does see more play in kpop and influences choreographies. Nowadays, more commercial dances will even have to keep in mind how popular a chorus could be for a tiktok dance challenge, for example. This isn't necessarily a bad thing for we are also seeing more and more people get into dancing due to it, much like I am glad voguing is seeing a little more representation in kpop.

Agh, I love watching dancers who specialize in specific styles analyzing k-pop dancing (as a ballet dancer myself, I’m always amused when idols use ballet in their choreos or concepts, it’s great fun to see the creativity and execution, wether it’s good or bad). If you take recommendations, I would love to see a video on Shinhwa‘s “This Love”. They’re an OG k-pop artist and the first k-pop group to ever do a choreo with vogue elements back in 2013 (and as far as I know still the only boygroup to do it, icons!). It’s a very different style from what you’ve reacted to so far, so it’d be interesting to hear your thoughts. Please consider it^^

For dance reactions, you’re going to get never ending comments about reacting to the dance practice videos! If you have the capacity, maybe react to both the MV and the dance practice video, because your point about how the dance is framed in the final version is excellent but it’s also not a comprehensive look at the choreography, which is an equal component and is what actually gets performed live.

i think spella is definitely more of a tutting dancer than a voguer, but she definitely has some inspiration from ballroom/new way and has definitely gotten influence from the arms control side of vogue. she has students who ended up in the kr ballroom community (notably titch love ninja), so though she's not a voguer per se she definitely has ties to ballroom!
