The competition’s hose routing goes up, under the gas tank, and the filter rest behind the air filter cover. The theory being that gravity will let any expelled oil run back down into the tank, and being up high won’t suck oil out of the tank.

I was wondering if anyone has spoken to the service department at their local dealership about this issue. I want to say I am very happy with the service guys at my dealership they have treated us very well. When I asked them about this and showed them a video on the topic they acted like they had no knowledge of any issue with the M8 blow by. Maybe they are not allowed to say there is a problem with a Harley product? I was just trying to find out if this was something we needed to address on our bikes (19 CVO Street Glide and 18 SGS) or if someone was just trying to sell their product (vented dipstick).
@ProfessionalMonkey3 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, I am not being paid to say anything, Feuling just gave me the product. I would never say something I don't feel is true. I am shocked to hear that a dealer claimed to not know about this issue. Do you HAVE to do something? No. Right now any excessive oil that comes out of the breather bolts is pulled into the intake and burned. That causes the air your bike is burning to be hotter (less efficient) and oily, causing build up on your piston heads, eventually reducing power. This is just a way to improve the overall "health" of your motor. No one is trying to sell you anything, just a neat way to get rid of a design flaw.

Whatever you do, use the PREFERRED method that Feuling recommends or routing the hose and filter through the frame of your bike, not the method of just using the little screw filter that comes up from the top of the dipstick. I got lazy and just used the little screw filter method which was fast and easy but then I took off on an 1,100 ride over Memorial Day weekend and ended up with a bike full of grime and oil. The oil mists ever so gently out of the little screw filter but then collects on the bike which then collect dirt and grime from riding. It took me over an hour to clean up my bike from the oil residue and only about 10-15 minutes to hook the dipstick up using Feuling's PREFERRED method. Long story short...do yourself a favor and use the PREFERRED method instead of the quick and easy one. This is a great product but take the time and do it up right the first time or else you'll be cleaning up your bike from an oily mess and regretting not going the extra mile to begin with.

Several of the Arlen Ness Air Cleaners, including the Big Sucker for Stock Cover include a catch reservoir which is not too difficult to clean out, when required. But you essentially have to first remove the filter element and stick your finger in the reservoir to see if it has caught any condensed oil. I then decided to go with the hose and filter. Looped the hose up and over then down (same as Fueling's recommendation) and tied off the filter down under/between the trans and gearbox. Works excellent! The only item was a 0.050 tool for the set screw for clocking and then setting/locking down in place the final clocking (ended up going to Harbor Freight to get the tool, which was cheap...about $7 for a whole set of about 8 different sizes; of course only needed the 0.050" but they didn't sell just the one. Interestingly, I found a bag of 100 of these 0.050" online for $11.99; it would have been convienent if Fueling included the 0.050" tool for the set screw).

won't the top hoses in the breather still put oil mist into the intake from the heads
@ProfessionalMonkey3 жыл бұрын
Much much less. Since the pressure is being reduced at the bottom end it will push A LOT less oil out the breather bolts, therefore lowering the temp of the air being pulled into the throttle body, and burning less oil.
@glenryan65693 жыл бұрын
Are you going to install the Trask transmission top breather as well because that's a another different problem.
@KINGSAME44443 жыл бұрын
I watched videos for the A1 cycles and you have to put less oil in the bike. Is that the case with the fueling one?
@ProfessionalMonkey3 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed there being any coming out of the filter. I think it is running back into the motor when I shut off, so it's working.

Does this prevent oil being recycled through the engine? If so wouldn’t that need a new tune if it changes the air fuel mixture?
@ProfessionalMonkey3 жыл бұрын
You're not really changing the air/fuel mixture. You're replacing the dirty oily hot air with fresh from the intake so no retune necessary.

Steep price! I did the T-man version of tapping the side of the oil tank. Did the research and purchased the parts separately online around $65. Don’t need to change anything with the dipstick. Also did a version of the external/internal breather mod to get it out of the stock intake.
@ProfessionalMonkey3 жыл бұрын
You drilled and tapped your oil tank? Respect, I am just not up to making such permanent mods that could go wrong.

Question - your bikes are newer , do you void the warranty by adding a breather / catch can ? I'm just curious bc I have a 2019 Ultra and I would like to do the same but not if it voids my warranty
@ProfessionalMonkey3 жыл бұрын
Technically it might sense you have modified the pollution system, but it would have to be your dealer that dings you for it. Digital tech won't know, so...

@@ProfessionalMonkey agreed. I guess you COULD remove it and put in the stock dipstick when you bring it in for service and they would never know

Hi! Monitor your air cleaner to see how oily it is. A little bit is normal, but from motor to motor it varies. If it’s pretty wet with oil it would be good to add a breather system.
