Development of a new approach to managing back pain, called Cognitive Functional Therapy, has helped Professor Peter O’Sullivan achieve success that’s now also seen him earn Curtin’s highest honour for academic staff: the title of John Curtin Distinguished Professor.
The new therapy approach targets factors, such as negative beliefs and pain-related fear and distress, to help sufferers escape the vicious cycle of pain and disability.
The challenge Professor O’Sullivan now sees before him is reorienting physiotherapy practice towards this more effective way of dealing with what is an all-too-common problem.

Thanks for writing this new recommendation as per ABC news 3 Sept 2022. Now with these two herniated discs preventing me from my career which means Centrelink keeps me on JobSeeker at well below the poverty line and my doctor telling me it is all in my mind, then I can rest easy. Despite the fact I am in agony most of the time, I live constantly with the propensity of an eruption of pain at any moment, how it affects my walking....now my leg is going in the knee, and there being no healing option, I can sit here each day with no future other than to convince my mind none of this is happening. I am beginning to love my agony and my loss of income meaning there will be homelessness soon and I feel ever so more comfortable some intellectual has decided my fate as I get no help from any medical professional (the physio at RNS told me to lift up one litre bottles full of water) and that all those professionals live in luxury whilst I embrace and enjoy my agony on a path to nowhere homelessness without any tangible help. Thank you again. Cynical mode now turned off....

Do some research into Dr. Stuart McGill and Dr Andrew Lock. Don’t listen to the garbage in this video.
