@@anothercomment3451 Yes, I think so, too. Here in Switzerland, Auguste Piccard is still known to some, but his nephew Bertrand is much more famous than his grandfather, thanks to perfect marketing. Auguste Piccard had to raise money for his bathyscaphe in Belgium and the USA. Switzerland is of course a landlocked country and the diving expeditions were expensive, nevertheless it would have been correct if Auguste Piccard had received more support from the Swiss state after his world-famous record balloon ascents. Auguste Piccard's son Jacques Piccard was even dismissed by the Swiss authorities as responsible for the tourist submarine Mésoscapehe, which he built for the 1964 national exhibition, because he was not officially a submarine designer, although the boat was already finished and tested. A scandal considering the fact that Jacques Piccard had worked with his father Auguste on the Trieste and personally dived with it in 1960 together with Don Walsh in the Mariana Trench at a depth of 10,910 meters. The Mésoscapeh, built by Jacques Piccard, drove and dived with tourists perfectly in Lake Geneva during the 1964 National Exhibition.

@@anothercomment3451 Thanks. Yes, the Piccard family is very interesting. Auguste Piccard also had a twin brother, the chemist Jean Felix Piccard, also a scientist. Today younger people only know Bertrand Piccard, but Auguste Piccard was well respected and famous worldwide and especially here in Switzerland for his pioneering achievements, he was no outsider. Only it would be good if he were remembered more, as he deserves. I have a commemorative 5 Swiss franc coin that was officially released by Switzerland in 1984 to commemorate Auguste Piccard's 100th birthday. Switzerland obviously honored him, also with this coin. And in 2014 a book came out about Auguste, Jacques and Bertrand, the three generations of famous Piccards (Piccard: Pioneers Without Borders). I bought that too. So Auguste Piccard is not entirely forgotten. This book about the Piccard family has a foreword by Sir Richard Branson, who was Bertrand Piccard's competitor in the first non-stop balloon flight around the world. Bertrand Piccard won this race together with Brian Jones in 1999 in the Breitling Orbiter 3 balloon. (The Breitling watch company, the main sponsor, is only a few hundred meters from my apartment.) (Bertrand Piccard later flew around the world in the solar airplane Solar Impulse.) Richard Branson lost the balloon non-stop competition to Bertrand Piccard's Breitling Orbiter team, he founded Virgin Galactic in 2004, which offers commercial ballistic flights to near-Earth space. In the comments here, Auguste Piccard is used as a witness for a flat earth. That's bizarre. After a balloon ascent into the stratosphere, Auguste Piccard said the earth looked flat, of course he didn't mean that the earth was flat. He would laugh out loud at that today, he was a person with a great sense of humor and liked to joke around. Because of his humor and strange looks, Auguste Piccard inspired the famous Belgian comic artist Hergé to create the character of the absent-minded Professor Cuthbert Calculus (Professeur Tryphon Tournesol) in the legendary comics Tintin and Snowy (Tintin et Milou).

In my humble view, Piccard SAID what the earth looked like ... and it is not wise or prudent for anyone to claim what the speaker "meant" was different from the spoken words. No way! Supporting the assumption of what Piccard actually 'meant' cannot be done by associating such to an assertion of Piccard's reported sense of humor. You are saying the guy who went the closest to the Firmament started joking around when he revealed to all - what HE saw, and only he (& his assistant), for the first time Ever?? C'mon, now. No freakin way would that vision be described by joking, exaggerating or embellishing. I have too much respect for and faith in A.Piccard's character to even imagine otherwise. Yup, he looked eccentric. He'd HAVE to 'beat to a different drum' just to conceive of, build, and carry out his fascinating, courageous, noteworthy deeds. Many folks appear eccentric, "famous" and otherwise. (Moses did.) I also do not think one soul is able to know what another, who lived generations ago, would LOL about now. That's a huge guess, man. Huuuuge assumption! Our minds learn & change! I'm certain A.P. knew well how the world worked, who controls things, and what their generational goal is. What's your point? Dr. Piccard said what he said in 1931 about what he saw from 10 miles up, that the Earth "looked rather like a flat disc with upturned edge." His observation has been censored and twisted into something he never said at the time and apparently didn't repeat... at least publicly. Future funding for his other research at stake, perhaps?

From what Popular Mechanics reported,Augustus also said (paraphrased,but damn close!)"The air at that altitude (his highest altitude) had a curious blue color and was thick,and samples were taken". And yes the "earth" was viewed as an upturned bowl (crater?). Very interesting account! And where these 'air samples' and what happened to them & the results of their testing?

The problem is, *videos at altitude claiming to show curvature or flatness are invalid tests unless people take into account the distortion caused by the field of view of the lens,* and I've never seen anyone do that on either side of the argument. For example, look carefully at videos making such claims and you'll notice that the higher the horizon is above the center of the screen, then the greater the curvature of the Earth. But the lower the horizon is below the center of the screen, then the more the Earth appears concave! For example, go to timestamp 20:25 in the video I provided and watch it for about 30 seconds. Look how the horizon goes from being a convex curve (round) to a flat horizon and then to a concave horizon (bowl) and so on. And notice that there's a 'sweet spot' near the center of the screen where the earth appears to be flat. This change in the shape of the Earth depending on where the horizon is in relation to the center of the screen is due to the distortion caused by the lens used. Not fish eye, often just a normal wide angle to capture a decent view of the Earth. Many videos like to choose a time when the camera is stable and the horizon appears curved or flat, and so then they say "Look at this, proof the shape of the Earth is X", but again, without taking the distortion into account they are not proving anything. I hope that helps.

The globe is pure bullshit and nothing but a magic trick. You honestly can’t convince me otherwise, I looked into literally everything about flat earth when going down the flat earth rabbit hole. I’ve watch every video on KZbin I could find that shows earth from above and comparing the ones with fisheye lense and without. If you looked up videos like i suggested and still saw curvature then you are just simply mentally blind and are seeing what you want to see out of ego and a programmed mind.
