Professor Utonium Crosses the Line || Quarantine (PPG 2016 Review)

I can already tell what this video's comment section is going to be like just based off of the fact that the episode is titled "Quarantine." Man, what are the odds that the PPG reboot predicted 2020?
In all seriousness, I detest this episode; not for the depiction of the virus or anything like that, but for the Professor because as you all know he is my least favorite character in the show. Truth be told, I think he's at his absolute worst here, and I cannot stress how much all of his actions here irritate me. I think there are a few spots in this review where I could've explained myself a bit better, but hopefully you all get the general idea of where I'm coming from.

Fun fact: I actually wrote this script all the way back in January, before the corona virus pandemic even started lol. I had no idea at the time what 2020 would become, and that's why there isn't a single reference to our current situation in my review. I think that worked out in the long run though, seeing as it won't make this video age as poorly. Also, ironically enough, today was the day I wrote my Sideline Dad script, and that episode was also terrible! Now when I inevitably release that review in the future, you'll all be able to see just how far ahead I've been planning out my videos!

Actually this is one of the better reboot episodes in my opinion. 1) There is some level of crime fighting. Not as quick paced and fun as the original but there is still violence. 2) There is no corny life lesson we've all heard before 3) biggest problem with this episode like all reboot episodes they don't try hard enough with the jokes.They should stive to make every moment gut bustingly funny.

hell yeah it is. hes such a sweet, gentle dad who loves his daughters more than anything in the fucking universe. he always tries 2 be with them as much as he can when theyre not being superheroes, picks them back up when theyre upset, risks his life 4 them in a few episodes & even sacrifices it 4 them in the movie when mojo almost snaps his neck & kills him & when dick kills them in knock it off. its soooo sad when he cries, tells them he loves them when the knockoffs take him away & cries his eyes out & hugs the shit out of them when he escapes dicks factory :( hes a bad one in a couple episodes but realizes he made a mistake & fixes it. he’d never do anything 2 hurt them

@@Sara3346 As of late cartoons have been overusing the regular show formula. You know how it goes Benson makes Mordocai do something that they don't want to do then they try to take the lazy way out. And them acting like fools causes the third act monster to happen. It works for regular show because thats the joke the show is normal at first then turns crazy. Also they make the monsters so stupid they are funny. And you are supposed to be laughing at Mordocai and Rigby not with them. When other shows copy it it leads to bland predicatable plot lines, they actually expect you to feel bad for the characters when they are in peril rather than laugh at how stupid the situation is.

If I didn't know any better, I'd hypothesize that Professor Utonium in the reboot was being written in such an atrocious and unforgivable way because the show runners are so wrapped up in their goal of making it so much of a "GiRl PoWeR" iteration that it can't possibly have any good male characters or male characters that can serve as good role models for anyone and/or have a ton of unresolved daddy issues they baked into the scripts. But that'd be paranoid of me.

Nah its just Fladerization the professor had his dopey moments from time to time in the original but it rarely impacted the plot. Remember when he dated Ms. Kene and forgot to take care of his children, or when he fell in love with his car, or in Powerproff when he was worried about their saftey and made his own power suit and tried too hard to be cool and was embaracing or daylight savings where he wouldn't let them fight crime. That was only 4 times where it impacted the plot.

The only thing I can imagine the plot twist working is if 1) The Professor got infected from some containment/ clean up slip up, Like neglecting to fully sterilize everything he had on him prior to entering the house. Or The girl's immune system being cartoonishly strong and pushed the virus back out into the Professor's face or into the house. And 2). One of the symptoms being compulsive lying and subterfuge. So the Professor would be lying (for the most part) the whole time after quarantining the girls and Mojo.

CellSpex put it best when it comes to twists: It's best to think about how well the twist works with the story (i.e. foreshadowing) rather than just using it for shock value. A good example of this is Luke Skywalker's infamous connection to Darth Vader in "Empire Strikes Back," since the movie foreshadowed it with Luke's development in that film and how he could follow the same path if he's not careful enough.

In the reboot, he doesn’t even know what the word fun means, or how to pronounce “the wave” in a soccer game. He doesn’t even know how to use a computer in the reboot. He barely spends any time hanging out with the girls in the reboot at all, and when he does, he’s usually endangering them, or the girls have to parent him because he’s too stupid to not hurt himself or others around him. It’s genuinely astounding that the Professor of the reboot became a scientist at all. Granted, the OG Professor occasionally had some OOC moments here and there where he got the idiot ball or wasn’t a great parent to fit certain plots of bad episodes (“Daylight Savings,” “Moral Decay,” and Keen on Keane), but, FOR THE MOST PART, he was actually a really amazing dad to the girls who was kind, caring, intelligent, reasonable, and selfless.

You know, it occurs to me that it a good explanation for Mojo and the girls NOT being infected being Chemical X- that some property in how it mutated Mojo and made the girls manifest gives them an immunity to viruses or maybe just more extreme illnesses like this. I know the show likes to never mention Chemical X if it can help it but its the common factor between the 4 and could work. Still doesn't fix the plothole about the professor being infected and not recognizing it nor Mojo and possibly even Blossom sussing it out but one patch at a time.

I thought of a PPG plot line wanna here it. Being a teacher is stressing out ms. Keane so the Professor builds a robot teacher in her place. Professor picking up the Powerpuff girls from school they are sitting in the car.* Bubbles:* being in the car is much less dificult than flying home. *flashback* Bubbles is flying home eating potato chips and a bird hits her in the head. Ms. Keane is sitting on a bench looking depressed. *Professor:* Hey Ms. Keane whats wrong Ms.Keane: I like my job but being a teacher stresses me out *Professor:* What about vacations *Ms. Keane: I only get one vacation day a year. *Professor:* What about summer *Ms. Keane: They make me mop the floors in the summer. *Professor:* I know why don't I build you a robot teacher *Ms.Keane: That sounds great. The Robot Ms. Keane is then pissed off that the real Ms. Kean is proffiting off of her hard work. The Robot then starts to resent the kids and treat them poorly and then tries to kill the real Ms. Keane so Robot keene can take her place. The PPG then beat the crap out of the Robot and the real Ms. Keane comes back. A few weeks later. The Professor and the girls show up in the class room with a birthday cake. Blossom: Happy birthday to our favorate teacher. Ms. Keane I love you guys but your gifts keep ending in disaster. The cake then turns into a cake monster and tries to eat her and she runs away. Buttercup and Blossom stare angrily at Bubbles: What did you do. *Flash back* Buttercup Blossom and Bubbles are baking the cake for Ms. Keane. Bubbles accidently knocks chemicalX into the bowl. *Blossom:* what was that *Bubbles:* Nothing *Preasent Day:* I was too emabraced to say anything at the time. So once again the day is saved thanks to the Powerpuff Girls*

Hey, remember how the OG Professor built a giant robot for the girls that he forced them to use to battle against a giant fish balloon monster in “Uh Oh, Dynamo” when he saw they were losing and getting hurt because he was terrified of losing them? Remember how the OG Professor got the Mayor and the entire city of Townsville to band up with him as soon as he noticed that the girls were missing in “Collect Her,” and managed to save them from that creepy comic book collector guy Lenny, who kidnapped them to add to his collection, by forcing him to tell him where the girls were through ripping open all of Lenny’s PPG merchandise with the kids of Townsville to break his will? Remember, how the OG Professor Utonium made a supersuit to spend more time with the girls when they kept getting interrupted to go save the day, then forced them to wear helmets, elbow-pads, and knee-pads to go battle Mojo Jojo because he was afraid of them getting “boo-boos,” and took on Mojo Jojo all by himself and managed to win to save the girls from him in “PowerProf.?” Remember, how in the episode “Knock It Off,” the OG Professor Utonium immediately threw out his appropriately named former college roommate Dick Hardly in a cold fury, told him to stay away from his kids when he noticed that the asshole kept referring to his little girls as *things* that he “could make a fortune off of” by mass producing, and then was willing to sacrifice himself to Dick to make more Chemical X in exchange for him to spare the girls lives when he noticed that Dick had kidnapped the girls and was draining them of their life force (Chemical X) in order to attempt to mass produce more superpowered children when he ran out? Remember how in the episode “Film Flam,” the OG Professor Utonium immediately got furious when he saw how that fraud of a film director Bernie Bernstein, who claimed he wanted to make a PowerPuff Girls movie, was mistreating his kids, particularly Bubbles, when he grabbed her face harshly after she pointed out something that he claimed wasn’t true, and then punched the dick of a fraud director in the face after finding out the entire film was a scam of Bernie’s to rob Townsville’s bank? Remember, how in the episode “Nano of the North,” the OG Professor Utonium followed the girls to a battle in Townsville to make sure they stayed safe from being trampled after shrinking them down to miniature size, so they could be small enough to battle tiny evil nanobots that were destroying the city, and then when he noticed that the nanobots had morphed together to create a six inch monobot, he just stomped on it with his foot to protect the girls and make things easier for them? Yeah, I really loved the OG Professor, too. He could be embarrassingly doting, old-fashioned, and overprotective with them at times, but he still meant well, so it was endearingly misguided. On the whole, he was still a really kindhearted, intelligent, protective, and selfless dad to Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup in the OG series. He had SOME wildly OOC, bad parenting and idiot ball moments here and there in a handful or so of some really bad episodes, such as “Daylight Savings,” “Keen On Keane,” and “Moral Decay” most notably. However, in *most episodes* of the OG cartoon, he was a really great dad to the three girls, who loved them dearly, and would do anything to protect them. Even at his most OOC in the OG cartoon series, he was never this outright indifferent, irresponsible, neglectful, reckless, or stupid in regards to any of his girls lives, safety, and well-being. I’m pretty sure that the OG!Professor would punch the reboot!Professor in the face for so indifferently, negligently, and recklessly outright endangering his daughters lives like he does in this reboot most of the time.

The plot in this episode really is a mess even by kids tv standard, its like they actively didn't want to put in effort in making this story cohesive. It's also pretty sad with how they handled the professor, I mean the dumbass dad trope was already overplayed and called out by everyone before this show even aired yet they still went full force with and didn't try to fix the issue even after viewers and fans complained. It really does feel like the people behind the show don't care anymore and just pumping these episodes out for a pay check.

Oh, my god...After rewatching the OG show, and now starting the reboot as a joke to make fun of its stupidity, the *absolute worst* injustice to a main character they’ve done is to Professor Utonium! For the *most part,* he was such a great dad to the three girls in the OG cartoon! Really, he was one of the few genuinely great dads from animated sitcoms that I grew up watching! I’m now on the “Quarantine” episode. This is the worst appearance of Professor Utonium in the reboot that I have seen thus far! I mean, at least you could say his immaturity, incompetence, insensitivity, and obliviousness, while aggravating, in “Clawdad,” “Summer Bummer,” “Tooth or Consequence,” the four-part Bliss storyline, “Frenemy,” “Rainy Day,” “Road Trippin,’ and “Professor Proofed” was either played for laughs and/or framed as wrong. In “Quarantine,” he’s fully convinced that he’s doing the right thing by locking up all three of his kids and Mojo Jojo together in a chamber for what could be up to three years when he’s under the belief that one of them is going to turn into a giant flesh eating monster after getting sprayed by a toxic chemical. Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Mojo Jojo aren’t calling him out for being stupid by endangering their lives and locking them all together in a chamber when he believes one of them is about to turn in to a giant flesh-eating monster. They’re not begging him to let them out, and demanding he put them all in separate chambers, so they don’t end up getting killed! The girls and Mojo are just arguing with each other about which one of them could be the Porcuswine in that chamber with each other, rather than getting pissed off at the Professor! Why he would think it’s a good idea to lock all of them together in a single chamber when he’s under the full conviction that one of the girls or Mojo will turn into a giant flesh eating monster that will eat everyone else in there, doesn’t make any sense? He’s been stupid in the reboot before, but he’s never been THIS stupid. The Professor genuinely seems to not give any fucks that he could lose at least two of his daughters, if not all three of them, at any moment when any of them or Mojo Jojo turns into the porcuswine, and eats them! He actually is grinning and cracking jokes, as if he’s enjoying their suffering! That twist at the end where the Professor turned into the porcuswine didn’t make any sense because the Professor wasn’t even in the area where the chemical exploded. Yeah, the OG Professor had *some* OOC moments of bad parenting and the idiot ball, but never anything *this* bad, and when he did have those *rare* moments of bad parenting or idiocy, he would usually feel guilty, realize it at the end of the episode after getting called out or seeing something bad happen, and/or make it up to the girls. In *most episodes of the OG cartoon,* Professor Utonium was a very brave, kind, loving, protective, reasonably strict, selfless, and wise parent to the girls. He could occasionally be overprotective and embarrass the girls by being a cheesily doting, old-fashioned, and sentimental Dad™️, but he meant well. Generally, he was a pretty great dad to the three girls in the classic PPG cartoon, and he’d never have so nonchalantly and stupidly endangered any of his kids lives.

I thought of a PPG plot line wanna here it. Being a teacher is stressing out ms. Keane so the Professor builds a robot teacher in her place. Professor picking up the Powerpuff girls from school they are sitting in the car.* Bubbles: being in the car is much less dificult than flying home. *flashback* Bubbles is flying home eating potato chips and a bird hits her in the head. I have my own PPG plotlines, or more specifically, RRB plotlines that are mostly concerned with making them much better, much nastier villains. Like you know how in _Boy Toys_ Princess wanted to join their group? In my AU version of that episode, the Ruffs end up making her a pledge and brutally hazing her, then leave her in a dumpster because she's "spoiled rotten". They also torment other villains like the Gangreen Gang, performing arson on their city dump home and then leaving them to burn along with the rest of the garbage.
