[Review] Never Been Blissed || The Powerpuff Girls (2016)

Bliss is back (Already?!) and she's on the hunt for a shape-shifting alien known as the Sporde in Never Been Blissed. What I originally assumed to be the season 3 premiere episode quickly turned out to simply act as a "return" of the series in 2018. Nope, it's just a mid-season 22 minute special featuring Bliss' return after her journeys throughout space (at least, according to its air date and Hulu listing), so it might come as a surprise to some of you that I'm reviewing this so soon after the Power of Four. Well, now you know why!

I like Bliss' hair when it's up. It's a far better outline plus while the bright color is still there, it breaks it up a lot and makes it feel less awkward.

For this episode's credit, the monster designs are actually really good; with a few tweaks they'd fit in with the original show. I think it's the color usage - the deep blacks give it a striking and definitively evil look and not generic backwash. The transformation sequence is actually the first instance of body horror in the reboot done right I can think of. Heck, Logan Logan's design was half-decent too; I just wish the episode as a whole was better.

Usually the original powerpuff girls went like this whos the monster whats the joke how do we beat him. Or One simpile situation goes absoltely crazy. Also at the end the mayor kept telling lies and it destroyed the city.

I also wanted to bring something up: you talking about the awkward writing in this episode made me realize: this show is deathly afraid to make fun of itself. For example, when bubbles says “a wanted poster. It’s what I’ve always...desired.” You know what that’s missing? It’s missing one or many of the other characters calling out the bad pun. Silly writing like this isn’t a bad thing if you’re aware it’s silly. But this show flat out refuses to entertain that notion. If this show could loosen itself up and make fun of itself a little bit more for lines like that, this wouldn’t be so frustrating.

That's very true even it comes to self-awareness in using pop-cultural references. During Painbow with all those references to popular trends Buttercup just says "whatever" and "stop being so weird" when the show SHOULD be poking fun at them or making them look as ridiculous as possible for comedy. Plenty of other shows do that and it works just fine. The reboot is too proud to actually joke about the things it does.

I get it" or something, then it would've been funny in a very self-aware way. But unfortunately the actual "joke" is just painful and awkward.

@@anarchimation1448 Not really. if you look they are all in the same area. Sure, Bubbles and Buttercup aren't linear to her, but the fact that she is looking down and not behind her would suggest that they are in front of her. The same goes for the Professor and Blossom. When she's talking to them, she only reaches to the professors chest and the girls are about the height of her legs. When they hug her, the girls are now smaller than her head and she is tall enough to reach the professors nose. Now you could say the professor bent down to hug her, but the height change is just too extreme. As for the girls, they could be balled up, however not only is that an odd way to hug someone; but, they would have to make themselves reeeeeaaaaally small for this to make since. Now you could ask if Bliss is being held up by the professor, but again that would be extremely awkward to hold someone that far a way from you and that high while hugging. It just looks like they made her bog to fit everyone into the hug better.

It was fine but Blossom baking cookies and that being the only thing she cares about was annoying. Especially when Jennifer was eating them like a hog. She didn’t think something was wrong even though who eats like that except zombies. And this just shows how DUMB the reboot made Blossom. Blossom might be my least favorite Powerpuff Girl but I still care about them ruining Blossom just like the other girls. Also I don’t hate Blossom she just has her moments that make me like her less than the other two girls. Just my opinion. 💙💖

I just realized a much better way for Bliss to overcome the necklace's power would be if she still didn't have full control over her abilities. When the Sporde is about to attack her with its tail, calling her worthless because of her emotions, she could scream (just like in the actual episode), causing her to explode as a result of her fear. The necklace would likely be destroyed in the process, letting Bliss go free her sisters so they could all battle the Sporde together.

Heres a way you can fix this, Remove the Sporde's shapeshifting, and make is a possessing Parasite. Introduce Logan like Normal Have him share parallels with Bliss. How they havent had much interaction with other people, and this is his first mission. So he is essentially a rookie. That way we can see why they would be infatuated. Both didnt have proper interactions with other people, and share a similar backstory. Have the Sporde be possessing the Professor, If its the professor, it would explain why he is trying to fit in and act cool. Its what the Sporde thinks will help him fit in. And we can hint he is the Sporde, because maybe he casually eats one of Blossom's cookies, which we saw before he hated. However, him eating it isnt focused on, or even payed any mind too. Keep logan in, and have him still blast the girls. Not because he is evil, but because he thinks they might be possessed and leading him into a trap. Bliss goes to the Professor for advice, and he gives her the necklace. Then he starts playhing his music on the DJ, which weakens her. Logan tries to fight off the sporde army, the girls come back, and Sporde Professor mocks her. Which hurts worse because its not a boy she just met but her own dad. Logan and the girls encourage her, and Professor manages to briefly fight the Sporde's control, further encouraging Bliis. Bliss is able to get enough energy to stop the music.(the reasoning why Logan or girls cant stop the music) theyre fighting off the army. After that they defeat the Sporde, Logan welcomes Bliss into the BPD, and makes her his Partner. There episode fixed. -Bliss' turmoil to being weakened works -Her romance with Logan makes sense

Probably because she only exits to boost ratings (which didn't work) and sell merchandise. They didn't put any time or thought into giving her a personality, interests or anything that makes her function well with the other characters in the show.

You should be able to turn on an episode of Powerpuff Girls and be rollingh on the floor laughing. The comedy in the original was very slapstick, bad puns mixed with good puns, clever dialoug, and occasionally satire. They should put jokes and crimefighting at the forefront.

Then at the end of the day Mojo Jojo is walking by the school with groceries. Mojo Jojo: WOw myu very own fan club all of those children worship me the great Mojoj Jojo. * All the kids put on Him masks and take off their Mojo Jojo outfits. Kid: We like Him Now Mojo Jojo: Forget ypu brats

I thought the action was above average and the jokes were pretty funny to me, but the Logan spoiler and the fact that blossom has the audacity to ruin chocolate chip cookies turns the episode down for me. Never Been Blissed was actually produced as the first Season 3 episode and premiered as that in Europe and Australia where the show had higher viewership. It's only a Season 2 episode in the US and Canada.

The wanted poster gag was definitely an attempt at a lame anti joke though. Tip for anyone; anti jokes are HEAVILY dependant on the current atmosphere when they're delivered, and even then they aren't enjoyed by everybody.

I'm still waiting for that whole spin-off of her with Discount Guardians Of The Galaxy with her facing of Discount Thanos but what can I truly say; perfectly balanced as all things should be! *Snapped and wipes out half of this reboot's existence with Bliss and others you didn't like* As for "Logan Logan" *Groans* rolls off the tongue doesn't It...I was thinking why not give his last name "Specter" or "Mystery" and sure not as good as Danny "Phantom" himself but at least can still see him fight back just like his partner If you got rid of their goofy side to them knowing they can still bust ghost and other supernaturals plus I got alittle Re-Imagining of my own and although I normally don't pick any personal favorite or my own "Guilty Pleasure" of retooling any hero, neutral or villain character with waste potential of any reboot, I actually do like Logan's design but It just ain't as close to Adrian/Cat Noir but I here' my early pitched for a spin-off of his own; remember that one guy Brian Larsen; what If he just quit his job after depressingly trying to get there Interview with The Powerpuff Girls but still never got his chance but then stumbled upon this guy who working for this organization of catching not just ghosts but aliens and other supernaturals as well and thought he could still use him to film one of her daring moves while asking If he was up for It but always wanted to film someone on busting crime from spooksters and creeps and even a chance to Interview him Instead of wasting his life away trying to Interview the Powerpuff Girls and might get to keep his own job after doubting himself at first. The rest can just be misadventures of Logan doing his usual thing and Brian himself being more useful then worthless, and add a 3rd member of the trio your favorite boy; Barry can be Wade (Kim Possible) mixed with Soos (Gravity Falls) not just being the oddball out of the three but can still mostly good at cracking down codes of anything tech or analyzing his own made own theories Inside his head. For his parents I can either Imagine them being like Hoss Delgado being badasses at heart or crazy as McGucket but still have there chemistry to bounce from eachtoher from there own wacky nature and rather you seem them as concern partners of different jobs trying to still support there son or just alittle silly compared to Pinkie And Cheesesandwich's relationship defending who you still choose from a flip of a coin. And all I truly got for now on retooling Logan's character unlike this reboot and I keep In mind these are just early drafts and not officially finished compared to Blossom's soy bake-good but this deserves a like a better then this. And you know me; I LOATH good food go to waste but If It's still taste like crud then It might as stay thrown out Instead of eaten and be rebaked again and I'm truly AM tired of SOME characters who either decent at best or "just for the shake of there own parody and has nothing to do with Powerpuff Girls or ANY Reboots out there these days (unlike some good reboots I've already covered before)" but still this won't be the last time I'm making one of these Character retooling/Re-Imaging to.

This episode was good to me, the best part is that plot twist, I expected Logan to be the sporde, but I didn’t expect him to turn the others into spordes so at least there was still a shock and I liked the plot and the writing wasn’t that bad, what I do hate about this episode is that relationship between bliss and Logan, overall I give it a 7/10

I mean I can understand why TTG isn’t cancelled despite being awful, high ratings and sell toys to dumb children, but THIS!? This..... “cartoon” barely has any views, or sold ANY merch..... it BAFFLES me why this reboot still airs

To be honest I would think the power of 4 is part of why this betrayal gave her more strength to fight back. What I am saying is the fact that she let someone new in and having another betrayal also ties into the original pain

Given I already had my say on this episode with your first review I wanted to focus on something else, that being how grating the Prof is. We've said it before but it bears repeating again on how badly he's being treated here. The funny thing about the whole thing is even in the original his nerdy side was made fun of but I think the way they balanced him being a dad and a nerd made everything so charming. He was still comedic like everyone else but he was still mature enough to make him the second smartest (after Bellum of course) in the series and his dad-ness made the whole dynamic so adorable. Besides, episodes like Power Prof did a much better job at showing how embarrassing the Prof could be when he was fighting along side his kids because while he was competent and a damn good fighter he couldn't turn the dad-ness off. Can we fault him for that? No, because he loves his kids but yeah it was embarrassing. I think you could forgive those slips given any parent would do that but this shit? They're trying so hard to make him come off as clueless and bumbling when we know he's not like that and he's NEVER been like that. Again, comedic? YES. An idiot? NO. All an all, outside of greeting his other daughter for her return or maybe showing up as a dues ex machina in the end of the episode, you're right; why is he here? He doesn't need to be in this episode at all and just comes off as being here only to do 'HURHUR FUNNY OUT OF TOUCH ADULT' jokes which I absolutely HATE-! WHEN DONE BADLY. And here they are done badly. You can easily just remove him and nothing would have been effected since the girls themselves already cover what he was trying to do anyway, especially Buttercup. So in the end, another blah episode with a blah character and so many BLAAAAAAAAAAAH moments.

I really hate this show, for a multitude of reasons, and I'm not sure what to say about this episode except that Cartoon Network clearly wanted us to fall in love with Jared Shapiro and crammed him in at the very last second. I'm just glad this show finally dies on impact and it pains me to see that Numbuh 1 of all operatives plays a role in this episode--why, for the love of God, why? Plus, way to bring out *POWERPROF*-vibes, reboot. Also, Chowder. Awesome.
