This is Part 3 of Professor Fink's Autonomic Nervous System Lecture. This Video Lecture continues the COMPARISON between the physiological role of the Sympathetic Response to STRESS versus the role of the Parasympathetic Response to the REST & DIGEST stage, EXPLAINING the action [benefit] of each on all of the principal organs of the body.
Professor Fink then describes the 4 Major Classes of AUTONOMIC DRUGS: [1] Parasympathomimetic Drugs; [2] Sympathomimetic Drugs; [3] Parasympatholytic Drugs; & [4] Sympatholytic Drugs. Both albuterol (as an example of a Beta-2 Sympathomimetic) and atenolol (as an example of a Beta-1 Adrenergic Blocker) are described as examples.
Reference is made to the Rest & Digest State, Stress State, fight, flight & freight, Acetylcholine (ACh), cholinergic nerve fibers, Norepineprhine (Norepi), muscarinic Cholinergic Receptor Sites, and alpha 1, beta 1, and beta 2 Adrenergic Receptor Sites.

These 3 lectures about the autonomic nervous system explain so many things about the body (like why asthma medication speeds up the heart), its incredible :) I'm still watching at least 5 minutes a day (I wish I had time to watch more) and I just finished this one. I now its repetitive to say it, but this is one of the best things I've ever seen on KZbin, thank you so much, Professor! I comment on every video I watch to see if KZbin starts recommending them to more people.

Acetylcholine is synthesized in all "cholinergic" neurons. There are many cholinergic neurons both in the CNS and the PNS (peripheral nervous system).

How does epinephrine effects the brain if it can't pass the blood brain barrier (as far as I know)? Thank you.
@professorfink

This is an excellent question and I have been reading through the literature to find a good answer. You are correct that catecholamines (being polar molecules) should not cross the BBB. The question is, does administration of epinephrine intravenously (IV) affect the brain? IF I find any pertinent studies or information, I will post below. Thank you for the question!

I absolutely love the way you teach and have enjoyed listening to your lectures. Very educational, easy to follow and understandable... but could you PLEASE, pretty please stop it with the yelling! LOL It is a little annoying and it's like someone yelling right in my ear because you have that microphone! I mean that in the most respectful way possible.

Great lectures. One suggestion, the audio quality is marginal and tinny. The clapping and yelling is insanely annoying to listen to. I endured the annoying parts because the content is so good. Please consider re-record these lectures with a better Mic and minus the clapping and shouting.
