This is Part 2 of 4 Video Lectures on AUTONOMIC DRUGS by Professor Fink. In this Video Lecture, Professor Fink describes [1 the Sympathomimetic (Adrenergic Agonist) Drugs; [2] reviews the Regulation of Blood Pressure (Baroreceptor Reflex) and [3] reviews Drug Dosage Calculations (Ratios, % Concentration & mg/ml) & how to convert between them. Reference is made to epinephrine (Adrenalin) and its clinical uses, vasodilators that cause reflex tachycardia, and vasoconstrictors that cause reflex bradycardia.

Professor FINK! Just a viewpoint: It's better to put the Camera in front of the table directly like you did in this video not from the side of the classroom (Vertical to the table). Just an opinio as the watching is perfect from this angle. Thank you very much for these videos.

Sir.....I wanna ask about dosage difference among cardiac stimulant ,bronchodilator and vasoconstrictor.......I mean, is it due to difference in number of receptors present on different sites? and if a person is given a dose of bronchodilation ,he will automatically get his heart stimulated and his blood vessels constricted.then, why to give specific doses? why not only give bronchodilating dose?
@andraacram
@andraacram 7 жыл бұрын
If an individual was on a vasoconstrictor, and their parasympathetic ns kicked in to lower blood pressure, they wouldn't necessarily be on a second medication, like they would for a vasodilator, unless they were having symptomatic bradycardia. Is this correct?
@professorfink
@professorfink 7 жыл бұрын
What you stated is correct. A vasoconstrictor such as phenylephrine (alpha-1 adrenergic agonist) will tend to increase BP, which would trigger a reflex slowing of the Heart Rate (bradycardia). Since drug actions are dose-dependent, the smallest dose that achieves the therapeutic goal should be used.

Hello prof fink your lecture is amazing honestly but I think it's more physiology than pharmacology. My pharmacology lectures presenting drugs and those stuff I feel so happy when I hear you saying "I will not ask you about those drugs" and I wish my college do the same. Unfortunately, I have to memorize them would you recommend your pharmacology book for me or I need another book and if so which book you recommend ?
@professorfink
@professorfink 2 жыл бұрын
You should purchase a book that [1] that covers the information that your clinical program requires that you learn and [2] that you find "readable". [The Pharmacology course that I am teaching is for "Allied Health" students (Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Respiratory Therapy)].

Why do sympatholytics shows Reflex tachycardia as they as decrease both C.O nd TRP ?
@professorfink
@professorfink 3 жыл бұрын
A "Sympatholytic" that decreases Heart Rate (& CO) does NOT cause a reflex tachycardia. (The heart can not speed-up if the sympatholytic is blocking the Nervous System from speeding-up the heart. Only a "vasodilator" drug that has no direct action on Heart (such as nitroglycerin) triggers a reflex tachycardia (in response to the drop in Blood Pressure).
