I got to visit the Lake Lure NC Dirty Dancing filming location in 1989 and stood on Baby’s bridge and steps and was inside Johnnys cabin and the little dance lesson room where they did the come here Loverboy skit. Also stood where they did the last dance lift scene. What memories and I cherish those few pictures I took while there. I have since worked my family tree and some of my ancestors lived in that very area many years ago. That is a magical beautiful area and the film was one of those that everything worked even tho back then they didn’t think so but it’s magical and that song, just fit. I haven’t been to the Mountain Lake, Virginia filming location but that’s on my bucket list! Nothing will ever top that original movie.

Personally, for me, 1987 was the last “great” year of music in the 80s, 1988 was pretty good too, with some songs and albums being carried over from the previous year. I didn’t care too much about releases from 1989, the material was beginning to sound more like the 90s(thinking back on it now). The 80s will always be the overall favourite decade of music for me.

I sometimes wonder what we all were thinking musically at that time as many of these “hit” songs leave a LOT to be desired, but then they take me back and the memories remind me of why, of a different more innocent time when the future was bright and anything was possible. Even if most of these songs on their own aren’t that special, they were central to that time and that alone makes them quite magical.

How many times can one person read the same thing over & over? I'm sure I have the record with this. 🤓 I have a "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" memory!!! One day before school back in 1987, I was at my friend's house (he lived behind us diagonally) before school. This video by Belinda Carlisle was on MTV. I was totally gone that day. In 1987 I was playing drums in a south Florida cover band and (briefly) dating a woman who worked as an overnight DJ. I would drive my fifteen-year-old Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser station wagon (full of drums) to the studio after my gigs and sit with her while she finished her shift. Although we only dated for a month or two, it was definitely during the period that all of these songs were on the charts. When she would get off work, we would go to a diner for breakfast and then to one of our apartments. I hadn't thought of "Wendy" in over thirty years. I do remember that she had a brand-new silver Volkswagen Rabbit Cabriolet and that she always had the top down unless it was raining. We attended a Richard Marx Concert when this was his hit on the radio. We had backstage passes, since she was a local Dj and stood just off stage for the whole show, watching from the wings. It was a lot of fun. Thank you for dusting off these memories.

Gonna spin my comment in a different direction here. 1987 was the first year of my life (born in '84) where I have distinct memories of hearing some of these songs. I don't really have a favorite from when they were on the charts because of that. Though over time I of course gravitated to certain songs... But I do have a favorite song of 2023. And of all bands and all songs, it's 1987 by Steel Panther. Known for very crude lyrics and their dedication for keeping the 80's hair metal sound alive, that song actually serves as a BRILLIANT tribute to the decade of decadence and I highly recommend people hear it at least once. Sure, there's doses of their crass humor, though much smaller and more palatable, but it's genuinely a great song. Great top 10 as always Professor!

1987 was such a good year for music. If I were in charge, I'd like to see the format of a) Top 5 on the charts that week b) Top 5 that SHOULD have been on the charts that week and c) Top 5 all time plays/streams from the top 100 chart from that week.

1981 was the year of some of the world’s masterpieces created by the best bands.

I memorized the chorus of Sqeeze Hourglass when I was a teenager. Love this song.

Hey Adam. The Night Court thing gave me an idea for your show. Top 10 best TV show theme songs. Night Court Is definatly in there. Barney Miller is my favorite. But the whole thing would need to be book ended with the opening and closing song of WKRP. The MASH tune would have to be in there too. Big list there.

I remember Mony Mony playing in the E-club as a young Marine. We had a little saying during the song 😂

Just Like Heaven... Easily the #1 song that week! I must say Brilliant Disguise by Springsteen didn't really get the attention it should have gotten...

Brilliant Disguise is low-key one of my all time favorite Springsteen songs. That whole album is underrated!

Honestly, this Top 10 isn’t my favourite except for Brilliant Disguise by Bruce Springsteen and George Michael’s Faith. I loved Brilliant Disguise and the Tunnel of Love album even though I barely knew about relationships, let alone adult breakups. As for the Faith album, all the quite adult songs went over my head but absolutely loved it. I always enjoy your rapport with your interviewees, whether I’m a fan or not. They all seem to enjoy your knowledge and enthusiasm.

I guess I'd have to say "Tunnel of Love", the title song and "One Step up". Thanks Adam!

There were so many new bands that had caught my attention that would show up in a few years as well as some bands that were hitting their peak, but only a couple made your list here Prof. Guess I was ahead of my time, and behind the time at the same time. Tricky thing to do, I guess, but it was a great time the late eighties and early nineties! Keep on rockin' in the free world 🤘😎

I was a senior in high school this week in 1987. I'm not completely sure what I was listening to in 1987. Depended on where I was. If I was riding in the car with my mom or my dad, I was listening to their music. With my friends, I listened to theirs. On my own, I wore out a few choice cassettes (Prince, MJ, mix tapes), or just watched MTV. I knew these songs, even enjoyed some of them (George Michael), but I didn't really focus on one genre. "Here she come now saying Mony mony…" This song was banned at my high school dances for some reason… 😏

Me and my friends were team Tiffany. We made our own dance routine to it. I wish I could still do that back bend😅

1987 I was stationed on a ship out of the Panama Canal zone. We had a special mission that kept us at seas for 10 and a half months out of 12 . I guess that is what they meant by "arduous sea duty" . Anyway the panama radio stations play spanish language programing for the most part
