"Under Pressure" is one of those songs you can listen to, over and over again, and never tire of it -- A true 80's classic! Many years ago, someone had posted a track of only Freddie and David's voices (no instruments, just the studio voice recordings) -- all I can say is 'WOW!' It was refreshing to hear their pure raw voices, no enhancers or modifiers, just clean, raw, powerful voices -- incredible!

I think " I Knew You Were Waiting ( For Me ) " by Aretha Franklin and George Michael needs a major shout out because it truly is one of the greatest duets by two of the greatest vocalists of all time. This was the duet we didn't know we needed ..until we surprisingly got it. No one at the time could have imagined or thought of the Queen of Soul dueting with the pop superstar and growing icon George Michael...except thankfully the legendary producer Clive Davis. Their respective highly renowned strong vocals blended so beautifully together perfectly with great lyrics and the music... it was truly absolute gold.

@@BrandyStaples-d8l There is also when George sang " Love's In Need Of Love Today " with the legendary Stevie Wonder. George at only 21 impressed Stevie so much with his voice that he immediately gave George his permission to cover any of his songs . George would indeed later take advantage of having Stevie's blessing to do a awesome cover of " As " with Mary J. Blige. Stevie would habitually joke about his blindness and one was " What !...George Michael's white ? ! Of all the songs on your best duets in music history, the only song I can agree with is your (and mine, too) number one selection, Queen and David Bowie’s Under Pressure. I can remember starting my 10th grade year. Reconnecting with my friends (most of them had spent the summer abroad), listening to what they recorded off the radio where THEY’D been, discussing each other’s summer adventures when Under Pressure starts to play on the stereo. We’d been listening to each other’s mix tapes while talking. I stopped mid sentence and just LISTENED! After 20 secs, I ask her “who’s playing?!” “David Bowie AND Queen!” My eyes widened and my mouth just DROPPED! “Wait! They did a song TOGETHER??” I was ENTHRALLED!! I first heard David Bowie sing when I was in 8th grade and had become a HUGE FAN! Then, I remember hearing Queen sing from my same friend. She had played me Night At the Opera the year before. So when she told me who was singing, we both just LOST IT!! LOL, those were the days… Under Pressure has been a NUMBER ONE FAVORITE SONG ever since! And yes, I was FURIOUS that the base line for my FAVORITE SONG was now being played for some UGH RAP SONG! Uncredited, and scarring me FOE LIFE! Now, because both songs start the same, I HAVE TO WAIT before I change the channel! Yeah, I cannot STAND that rip off of a song!! To this day, whenever I stumble onto a station playing that TERRIBLE song, I say under my breath “What a JOKE!” And then change the channel! LMAO… NAH, I’m not that judgmental, I’m just STILL PISSED OFF that some construction worker who had dreams of being a… Rap star? RUINED MY FAVORITE SONG! LMAO!! Oh, and Don’t Give Up also lives on my Favorite songs list..

My #1 duet of the 80's has to be "Don't Give Up". When it came out, I was first blown away by Kate's vocal. Ugly American that I am, I had never heard of her. Then every time I played the song, an uplifting peace overcame me. I was the afternoon DJ at a local radio station, and I got in trouble for playing it out of the Program Director's rotation. So for a couple of days, I had to play it in rotation. Evidently enough calls came in, missing it, that he came in and moved it to the top of the rotation, where it played more often throughout the day. This song has seen me through some pretty tough times. When I hear it, that peace still overcomes me.

Barry Gibb and Barbara Streisand duet on a song called "Guilty" from her album of the same name is one of my favorites. BTW I love opposites attract, lol!

If you want a great Canadian 80s duet you’ve probably never heard before, search Payolas & Carol Pope (singer of Rough Trade) “Never Said I Love You” Payolas also had a great 80s song called “Eyes of a Stranger” and Rough Trade’s most famous song is “High School Confidential.”

I know it wasn't in the 80s but that "Heaven Knows" duet by Donna Summer and Brooklyn Deams video always cracks me up. The guy looks like he just woke up from under a freeway overpass 😄

Don't give up.....I played that for the first time sometime last year. I had big hopes for it, I hear people love Kate Bush and I grew up on Peter Gabriel: Man...I was underwhelmed. I was expecting it to take off or go somewhere. It just, kind of...meandered for me. Respect to all who like it though.

I'd mention "Separate Lives" by Marilyn Martin and Phil Collins (surely one of the best), "Easy Lover" by the two Phils (Collins and Bailey), and an oft forgotten one "On My Own" by Patti LaBelle and Michael McDonald. Others have mentioned some of my other suggestions, so I'll leave it there.

Worse than "Opposites Attract"--by far. Even worse than the Eddie Murphy/Joe Piscopo parody of it on SNL. Truly an awful song, and especially traumatizing for kids of my age as we had to sing it in music class.

Because you have never bothered to look up the definition of duet . You are wrong.

My point as well, because then that opens it up to all sorts of songs by bands with 2 or more vocalists such as Fleetwood Mac, Queen, The Clash etc. Should just be 2 separate artists coming together

It’s not so much a duet as a guest cameo but Aimee Mann singing on “Time Stands Still” from Rush is one of my favorites. I had my first kiss as this song was playing. Brings back GREAT memories.

I know this will be controversial but 'Islands in the Stream' will always be a touchstone for 1980s radio and two of the most unique voices across several genres

Interesting how given their adjacency Canada and the U.S. would have such divergent tastes in music with Under Pressure and Don’t Give Up as just two examples. There have been many others as avid followers of Adam’s channel can attest. But why the difference? As a Canadian, I like to think it’s because we have better taste! Just kidding of course. Anyway, great video Adam. Keep ‘em coming!

"Opposites Attract" GREAT CHOICE!

It is insane to me that Under Pressure wasnt #1 in the US. The song has ridiculous staying power. Ask anyone of age and most love that song. Also Opposites Attract was a fun song and the video was cool. It's a weird song, its definitely not better than the songs you mentioned that it blocked from #1, but it was still a fun song.

Under Pressure, yes! A definite #1 and relevant today... Thought maybe Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley (or Stevie & Tom Petty's Stop Draggin' My Heart Around) would get in the top 5...

I am impressed by how well George Michael's voice blends with a variety of singers, from Aretha Franklin to Astrud Gilberto. There didn't seem to be anyone he couldn't sing with. I wasn't a Wham fan and didn't think much of Michael until Faith, but his duets are terrific. BTW, if you haven't seen The Skeleton Twins, search KZbin for Bill Hader Kristin Wiig Nothin's Gonna Stop Us. You'll be glad you did!

With the other duets that were reluctantly left off the list, maybe do another top 5 for '80's duets? There's plenty of contenders including "Don't Fight It", "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around". "Easy Lover", etc. 🙂 Thank you always for your informative & entertaining videos. 👍👍

For me: 5) I knew you we were waiting for me (George Michael + Aretha Franklin) 4) I’ve had the time of my life (Bill Medley + Jennifer Warnes) 3) Don’t fight it (Kenny Loggins + Steve Perry) 2) It’s only love (Bryan Adams + Tina Turner) 1) Separate Lives (Phil Collins + Marilyn Martin) Honorable mention: - Easy Lover (Collins + Bailey) Worst: - all the Paul McCartney + Michael Jackson duets 😖 - Don’t 😴😴 give up (Gabriel + Bush)

I was surprised you didn't have Almost Paradise in the list. I'm going to be doing a Karaoke cover of that song for Valentine's Day on my KZbin channel. I've always loved that song and the combination of Mike Reno and Ann Wilson was a great mixture of voices, even though I know (from watching you, of course) that he was about the 5th or 6th guy on her list of guys to sing with.

Anything by The Righteous Brothers...Some of the most downloaded and listened to songs since their releases; 'Unchained Melody' and 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling'. Then, 'The Time of My Life' by Jennifer Warmes and Bill Medley for 'Dirty Dancing'...ALL PHENOMENAL. Also, Tom Petty and Stevie Nicks for 'Stop Dragging My Heart Around'.
