My wife turned me on to Rush when we were in high school in 1975. Our family moved across the country and we lost touch for 32 years. Reconnected and got married in 2007. She was my first love, Rush was my 2nd. We've both been to every tour since 1975, albeit not together for 32 years, but once reconnected we went to 2-3 shows every tour. My son's first concert was Snakes and Arrows. We all went to R40. Three times, 3 cities.

I'm proud to hear the Professor confirm my assessment of this band. All three at the top of the lists of their respective instruments. This is the ONLY supergroup because they weren't formed to be such. They just were.
@yorkiephil77442 жыл бұрын
I would say The Who preceded them as a supergroup for the same reason. Townshend, Moon and Entwistle were all masters of their respective instruments and Daltrey a magnificent vocalist. Indeed all four of them as individuals and collectively as The Who have been quoted by Alex, Geddy and Neil as being inspirational to them (particularly Moon for Neil).

The Rush 40 anniversary box set has so much crap included that the Earth's temperature will increase by 1.5 degrees as a result of all resources used to produce it. Well put. I often wonder if anyone who either went to through grade school with Alex and Geddy or was their teacher paid attention and saw just how colossally big they became and how much their music means to their fans and how it reaches them in ways no other band does. It would be very mind blowing indeed.
@rbilleaud2 жыл бұрын
You don't know what the term "supergroup" means, do you? It doesn't mean a great musical group. The term supergroup was coined to identify those bands that were formed by members of other successful bands. For example Blind Faith was a supergroup as it included Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Carl Radle and Ginger Baker. All were already well known and highly regarded musicians. Asia, would be another, and there are plenty of other examples. Led Zeppelin could even be considered a supergroup as Page and John Paul Jones were both well known studio artists, and of course Page had been with the Yardbirds. Plant had found some success with his group Band of Joy and Bonham had a regular gig with American pop singer Tim Rose. Rush, on the other hand, as great as they are, are definitely NOT a supergroup as the individual members had not achieved any kind of notice before banding together.
@simonbarsinister88542 жыл бұрын

In the summer of 1981 I was a 10-year-old Boy Scout riding a bus from New Mexico to the National Jamboree in northern VA. My music collection consisted entirely of a cassette on which I had recorded various top 40 tracks while listening to Casey Kasem on my little boom box on Saturday mornings. An older scout I looked up to asked me what I was listening to. When I told him he shrugged and said something like, “You should check this out,” and passed me his cassette of Moving Pictures. To this day, it is my favorite album, the only reasonable competition being Dark Side and OK Computer. Thank you, nameless older scout. Thank you.

I was there. RUSH released a new album every year I was in high school - A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and culminating with Moving Pictures in 1981. They were the hot topic with the rock and roll kids that year. When tickets to the shows went on sale it was all we talked about. Back then you had to get tickets at a place called TicketTron and they were located in a department store called The Hecht Co. Fans camped out to get tickets for the major shows and RUSH was no exception. For Moving Pictures they played 2 shows at the ol' Capital Centre in Largo, MD and we camped out to get tickets for both shows. The day of that first concert we rode around town in my friends van, hanging out the windows and sliding door yelling, "we're going to see RUSH!" It was great to be young and a RUSH fan.

I came to Rush in the late 80’s with Hold Your Fire - my 1st concert was during that tour at JLA in Detroit. From there I was irrevocably hooked. I quickly acquired every cassette, and put them in order of release in my wooden wall-mounted cassette rack, moving them down 1 spot with each new release. Going to Harmony House on the day an album was released became a pilgrimage, and I’d listen to each new album 100 times over, with the occasional sprinkling of an older album here and there. Truly a cherished vestige of my youth. There will never be another Rush.

I was 17 and sitting in my parent's kitchen watching an old black and white TV when on October 9th of 1974, Rush played 3 songs on Don Kirschner's Rock Concert that changed my life forever. I didn't know who or what they were at the time, but I fell in love with the band, and have been a fan ever since. I never knew what a Rickenbacker 4001 was until that night, but I wanted one desperately after that. My dad traded my old trombone in on a crappy no-name bass and I played it till my fingers were torn up, trying my best to emulate the bass lines of Geddy Lee and my other all-time favorite bassist, Chris Squire. Imagine my joy when I found out Geddy loved Chris and Yes, too. Now that Neil is gone, I find myself watching a lot more videos about Rush on YT, and I also find I often have tears in my eyes as I remember them, every nuance of their songs, and the better times back then. I will always miss the three of them as a group, and they will always be one of the top bands of my life, as I turn 65 this summer - after being a big fan for over 47 years. Thanks for the memories and the awesome songs I'll never be able to forget or get out of my mind or heart, guys.

When Moving Pictures came out, it was one of my hidden pleasures. Most of my friend were into Led Zeppelin, Van Halen and Aerosmith, or so I thought. I was 15 when the album came out and immediately bought the cassette. One day one of my friends came over and he was looking through my cassettes when I was out of the room. When I came back in he was holding Moving Pictures and asked, “Do you really like Rush?” I was expecting to receive a ribbing and have everyone at school learn I liked the band. When I answered, “Yeah. I kinda like them.” My friend said, “Kinda? They’re amazing.” This friend of mine made fun of Rush at school. I just looked at him and he said, “Hey, I know it’s not cool to like Rush, but I think they’re awesome.” I gained new respect for him. He was actually into a huge variety of music and when he or I would get new music we’d meet up to listen to it without anyone else around to throw in their biased opinions by what was considered cool. I still talk to that friend all these years later. From that point on, every time a new Rush album came out, we’d listen to it together. Even after he moved to a different city, we’d listen over the phone. Once a year we have Rush day and we spend a couple hours on Facetime listening to Rush.

I remember that Witch Hunt came out at that time and it spoke to me, kept me going. But then, so did Tom Sawyer and Red Barchetta! The truth!

I became a lifelong Rush fan in 9th grade when Moving Pictures came out. First heard Limelight on the radio and was absolutely blown away and hooked for life. My favorite band through all of these years, and this album is pure perfection. I've been fortunate enough to see every single tour since Power Windows in 1985 during college, some multiple concerts per tour, and even got on the first row twice. It was like a dream to be so close to the boys. Alex also inspired me to pick up a guitar and start a lifelong hobby. I'm still learning Rush songs to this day. Rush has been the soundtrack to my life!

Tom Sawyer, Vital Signs, Limelight (let's just say all of Moving Pictures ;-), BUT as a musician I'm blown away by the story told in the music and playing on "Red Barchetta" and "YYZ". Rush were genius in taking the listener on a musical journey that matched their storied lyrics, and they never wrote 1-3-5 repetitive pop songs. Listening to the ebbs and flows of the dynamic music and the detailed musicianship and composition on these two songs is an adventure every time!

Moving Pictures is arguably one of the top five rock albums of all time. They are/were all masters of their craft not to mention class-acts in the way they conducted themselves. Specifically, Neil was undeniably one of the best drummers in history AND probably one of the best lyricists ever as well. If there are any bass players better than Getty, I'd be surprised. Alex's guitar licks are incredibly as well. Rush go down in history as legends in music all while being surprisingly humble, down-to-earth, and very appreciative to their fans. I have nothing but respect and appreciation for them and their contributions.

After I heard this album, I attended my first rock concert to see them at the famed Maple Leaf Gardens at age 15, a place I would go on to see them countless other times over 2 decades, until I last saw them at the Air Canada Centre for R40 and took my 12 year old son. I have so many memories of them, I could not write them all. Suffice it to say, they altered the course of my life. They even made me read star charts (where was Cygnus X1?). Entertainers? One your videos about Rush was how I ended up finding your channel. Not only am I so glad that you are highlighting this amazing band (my personal favorite) but I am so grateful that I found your channel. I have learned so much and have found my way to music (especially) 80's music that I had never heard of and that I absolutely LOVE. Thank you! My older brother introduced me to Rush after his friends showed him Closer to the Heart. I was hooked! I felt like I was the only kid who liked Rush at times. My adolescent years were when the band released albums like Power Windows and Hold Your Fire, and even though a lot of fans who found their way to the band via 2112 don't like their more synth heavy stuff, it's what made the strongest impression in my life in my most impressionable years. Music is the only medium that some people have to bridge the gap between the emotional and the physical. A lot of people form bonds with bands or artists whose music was with them while they were going through hard times or trauma. For me, Rush is the background music of my entire like and Neil Peart's lyrics are written on my heart. My favorite all time track has to be "Time Stand Still" and my favoritle lyric comes from that song as well "All these wounds I can't get unwound". So brilliant.
