AVAA Professor! and It stands for awesome, not ass haha. Regarding Drake's diss tracks(this one and taylor made freestyle), it just reaffirms my thoughts on Drake that I've been having that there is something special about him being in a beef/diss mode. I really never cared for him as an artist; his entire career and his distinct approach to his craft have always left me with a feeling of confusion and perplexion for all the reasons I have personally (how most of his albums fail to have one, holistic album experience with a common theme tying the album, and how commercial-driven his music is, etc, etc) But, he does have a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to dissing that makes him seem very clever and strategic. I love how he's playing to his obvious strengths (money, streaming, number games, relevance) but subtly and jokingly softening the potential blows preemptively. Even the way how he leaked the track to basically test the water, Is annoyingly clever. Can't wait for kdot's response!

Someone probably already mentioned it either on stream or here in the comments, but seeing you're so in depth, I figured I just wanted to mention that Kendrick didn't compare Drake to MJ per se, Drake did himself on First Person Shooter w/ J. Cole, since he, then, was only one number 1 single away from MJ who held the record for most number #1 singles, and kendrick most likely just referred to that, since it was a response to the old Big Sean track Control, where Kendrick seemingly started the whole beef.

I don’t think your numbers this week mean your channel is tanking What’s most impressive and enjoyable about your videos (to me!) is watching content where the creator resists being transfigured into a commodity machine. I think it’s cool you don’t mess up your health for your videos like Casey Neistat used to. In my mind your videos are exceptional because they’re thoughtful, which is extraordinary on this platform. The algorithm drains creators of that quality and incentivises them to be panicked/hateful/unkind, on and off camera. I guess I’m telling you I think this cos I think there’s a so much worth in your videos, no matter if you get only a few thousand views a week (crazy numbers!), and the qualities that make the algorithm not so keen are perhaps what make the project special AVAA!

The bar about "Being BIG IN Japan" is a faux-double entendre, something ive really only seen Drake do and might even be something HE personally innovated as far as a weapon in submimnal disses. He says hes big in japan so your initial instinct is to take it at face value that he must mean what he says, but the issue with the bar reveals itself when you research the numbers and realize that hes infact NOT popular in Japan at all, infact it's one of his weakest markets... So wait, is Drake just being inauthentic? Is he outright lying? Misinformed? Nope, what he is actually doing is being very sneaky, because hes actually refrencing a Japanese girl both Future and Drake himself have had sex with. Being "Big IN Japan" is his way of saying hes...well you get the idea. Faux Double Entendre, because he's camflouging a subliminal diss through a double entendre that isnt factual, yet he knows that, and says it for the chance to make a diss that only the ears that are meant to understand it will, while the rest assume its more innocent. Jay Z was big with those coded subliminals as well, and drake took heed, but Drake really stepped it up from where Jay left it

You’re miss construing a couple pts. 1st, it’s a dig for dot to have fts with pop artists because he’s supposed to be an artist that makes music for the art. Drake is saying he’s sacrificing his art because Top forced him to do records with pop artists for money. 2nd, when Drake said 21 and the other 2 had him wiped down it’s because they out sold dot’s opening week sales compared to dot’s last record. Enjoyed the rest of the video! Nice work

Counter points to your argument mr professor. 1) Quality of Music: Drake said, just as J Cole also said, that Mr Morale was a flop. Regardless of whether or you you think it’s a masterpiece, majority of people would say that was his worst album and it’s also clear because the album did not sell well. It did not do well at all sir by Kendrick’s standards. That was Drake’s point. Kendrick latest work was also outdone by SZA, by Travis and by 21s latest album. So he did not have nothing, it’s the general public’s opinion. Mr Morale was not well received. That’s true. Furthermore, Drake clearly towers over them so if Kendrick is struggling to compete with them, then Drake is bigger than him because Drake is bigger than those 3, that’s what he was saying, not that he was nominating “champions”.
@Parafraxus126 ай бұрын
AAVA: the "being finessed" by record labels bit is not new. In fact, it's been used against Drake. In Exodus 23:1 by Pusha (diss to Wayne/Drake) he says "contract is all fucked up, you are signed to one dude thats signed to another dude thats signed to another dude, that's bad luck" referring to Birdman, etc and all the cash Young Money has to kick. And in Story Of Adidon Pusha says "The M's count different when baby divides the pie" talking about Baby (Birdman) and the double entendre with his newborn kid. That being said the Drake comments must sting because i bet you since he's very buddy buddy with Lucian Grainge from UMG he probably has a stake in the company and must get a share in some rapper's royalties etc
@shirleywang67286 ай бұрын
My two cents on the ad hominem thing… doesn’t it hurt way more when someone makes fun of you for the thing you CAN’T change? Kendrick can win this rap beef but his shoe size will never be bigger than size 7’s… i’m not arguing for Drake but just curious on your thoughts on that?
@jessicadangerfield15395 ай бұрын
It can go both ways imo. It depends on Kendrick’s or anyone’s mindset. If how he values his worth is not on society’s standards/expectations (eg society says real men have feet bigger than Kendrick’s but Kendrick believes what makes a real man is treating others with respect or the like) & he lives up to that most of the time, then an attack on a physical reality that he’s accepted or doesn’t place import on isn’t going to sting so much if at all. I dunno if the Professor agrees with me or not, but there’s a consideration. How much an attack of that sort hurts Kendrick is up to Kendrick & where he places the source of his self worth 😊

Drake was talking about Future with the Japan line because he prefaces it with the line about how he could never be someones number one fan which is a clear reference to the "we dont trust you" track. Also, I believe the Japan line is an example that he's big overseas in general. The fact that he uses Japan rather than another arbitrary place overseas doesnt add to the line. So the racial bias specific to Japan shouldn't really be factored in. Drake points out that Kendrick did songs with Maroon 5 and T Swift not to argue that he himself isnt pop. He does it because the tracks themed around TD telling Kendrick what to do. Additionally, this is mentioned to point out that Kendrick is hypocritical and isnt above being a "sell out" himself. This is clearly something people critique Drake about but when KDot does it with less success no one critiques him. Furthermore, you mention that Drake's points on mentioning financial and commercial success seem silly since Kendrick is also extremely successful in that regard. Couldnt you argue the opposite that its silly to debate creative success when they are both so creatively successful. It doesnt matter if your opponent is better than the average competitor. This is mono e mono. When standing up face to face how do they compare. Raw competition in any regard. Therefore, it's fair to mention how your opponent falls short in any regard. I lyrically enjoy Kendrick more as a rapper and often enjoy his albums much more because they are cohesive and possess depth. However, everyone loves to hate on Drake because he is the easy target at the top of the mountain. Stating that he's only successful because of x, y, and z. The level of discredit this man receives simply because of the fact that he is popular astonishes me. Yes Drake certainly has his flaws as an artist but stop being so embarrassed to give the guy his flowers when its due.
