Professor, if I may say... throughout the course of your reaction, a minor epiphany was had on my part regarding my ranking of this remake. Looking at it objectively, completely disconnecting myself as a longtime fan, putting aside the knowledge and appreciation of and for the source material... yes, I could conceivably say that as a standalone movie this is a five out of ten. A very forgettable five... A five that is indicative of the dispassionate blandness and unfocused effort of what gets churned out from the industry these days for the masses! Good gods, "Mortal Kombat" 2021 is Middling Kontent of the modern era.

I usually like your videos, Thorgi. But I will have to respectfully disagree on this one. I enjoyed the movie, personally. However, there are some things I would have done differently to make it the best MK movie it can be. I would have had either Liu Kang or Johnny Cage take Cole Young’s place as the protagonist of this movie. I also would have centered the movie around the characters in the original game, (Johnny, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Raiden, Kano, Scorpion, and Sub-Zero) with a few extra characters (Kitana, Mileena, Jade, Jax, Kabal, Reptile, Baraka, and Goro) with Shang Tsung still seemingly the main villain of the movie. I also would have shown the titular tournament as well with the MK theme shown at the end credits

The only thing I’m going to point out is that many traditional weapons especially in Japanese martial arts are farming implements because that was what peasant farmers had access to in order to protect themselves.

I know you had a lot to say, so I won’t fault you for this. But you never said enough about Goro’s scene. I was looking forward to see what Goro would be like in this movie, but he’s only in the movie for a total of maybe five minutes of screen time, (in the last 25 minutes of the movie) and we’re meant to believe that an amateur MMA fighter was able to take down a nine time mortal Kombat champion with literal plot armor

Thorgi you hit the nail on the head right off the bat, they're saying that if you're a MK fan then go see it, and I'm like fuck that, if your an MK fan, don't waste your money, we don't need a sequel the whole movie is horrible. This is when you exercise that almighty reboot button. An Holy cow, so we've known for a long time that the Critics side of Rotten tomatoes is the least honest, but now it appears as though the studio is cheating the audience score to be higher. I'm not trying to say your an idiot if you liked this movie, but if you liked this movie than you're an idiot...

My main gripe with this movie is that it really did it develop any of the villains and their back stories when Miliena is very intrigued all to the story of katana as they're both sisters or clones, Goro's death felt empty since his family to Shao Kahn and his death should have meant more especially to Shang Tsun, I get that death is merely but a revolving door as they can become revenants in future adaptations. The reasoning behind the dragonmarks going from person to person whether they are worthy or not also bugged me because a hobo can kill a guy who is worthy and all of a sudden they are "Earthrealms Champion's" it was a great movie but I really feel like it could have gone two hours or 2 hrs 5 min without feeling bloated or just padding out time. Kano, Kabal, Kung Lao, Liu Kang and Shang Tsun were probably my favorites in the movie I really felt like the other characters didn't really get much to do, however I didn't like that Liu Kang was relegated to exposition a very pivotal main character in the grand scheme of things 8.5/10

The new Mortal Kombat was ok. Wasn't something I'd rush to rewatch again except a few moments. If I had to choose 95 version did the characters a little better. (Things I liked) Fighting was good. Scorpion & Sub-Zero were good. Tho how they made them as in this movie is a little odd. Had some good fatality moments Kano moments were good. Even tho he was short lived for dumb reasons. 😕 (Things I didn't like) Story drags to slowly after the first section of the movie until it gets to the end part I didn't like how it had the chosen markings to determine who can fight in the tournament. (Even tho they technically never had tournament officially). So the whole drama Sonia could fight with them was pointless. 😒 Being given power's from the marking is dumb as hell Cole was a pretty pointless character. (But he did have some moments) Jax robot arms being his powers I don't see why they needed to tease Johnny Cage. When he should've been involved for the first tournament. Even tho it's apparently done. Liu Kang is pretty boring & I hate they already killed off Kung Lao Those are my thoughts on the top of my head.

um buddy, you are either misremembering things or you weren't properly paying attention. A lot of your gripes are just plain wrong. Examples: Subzero speaks both Chinese and Japanese, the girl is his daughter (scorpion tells Cole to protect his bloodline while looking at the kid), Kano started charging Lu Kang before Lu shot him with a fireball. There are many others, I suggest you give it a re-watch.

Just saw this today. I thought it was alright, but I hated Cole yung. He was so boring and pointless. Like you said any of the normal human characters couldve filled his role juat fine. Sonya wouldve been a perfect fit. I really hope they abandon that character if this gets a sequel.

I’m tired of the games and animation being superior to the movies, how is that possible?! I get the animation and fluidity, you can't make people look like game characters because not everyone looks like the Rock or Henry Cavil and can act but! My god these people they picked can’t even act. It looks like they got Kpop stars to pander to the Asian market, which is fine and I credit them for at least working out a enough to be in shape... the issue comes when you see Liu Kang, and he’s clearly shorter than everyone and looks like he hasn’t had a meal in a week. In a movie about fighting no one is going to believe little boy Liu is going to take out Goro. Not that this matters as the tournament wasn’t even a factor here?! I’m just really confused why Hollywood needs to jump the cart. The games have a rich history and the original movie is heading to 30 years old! You can take this title and do the original take and everyone will be fine with it! You don’t see people complain when Ironman or Captain America come out of their solo movies victorious... so why worry about telling a story where the ending is known by the audience? So what that everyone knows Liu Kang is going to win? Just execute the god dam story in a well crafted and interesting way! Give me quality performances and actors who look and fight the part! This is the hard part and the part that requires the effort!

I had tons of fun with the new Mortal Kombat I appreciated the storyline differences (don't want to see the exact same story) and marked the fuck out at so many moments! Some of the minor quibbles I had was with pacing towards the end, and I could have used more Shang Tsung and Kabal, I hope it does well, because Im super down for more.

Every thing before Kano was too slow, too much back story every thing after Kano was fun and game accurate so I was ok with it. I like to say, its like some one made me sit threw all of Solo before Episode IV then ended Episode IV before they Attacked the Death Star. In the debate over ensemble action films vs Stand lone movies I would love to discuss JLA vs MK Vs Avengers do stand alone movies help ensemble casts? I say no.

Fatality, Flawless victory, hat Buzzsaw, fire breath, bicycle kick , gorgo, upper cut, leg sweep, ice powers, get over here, move spamming, beating heart, reptile, Citizen Cage ,every one's powers even Sonya , fire dragon, robot arms, a pit over spikes, Scorpion was yellow, Subzero was blue, Kano had eye blasts and he had the right accent, Hat guy looked like hat guy, a Soul was stolen, mask guy looked good, it had a good number of game accurate things. the 1st movie had a better start, got to the action better but this was still a better movie then Super Mario Brothers or Street Fighter hard to place it vs other MK movies, not as good as Sonic, Dragon Quest or Pokemon. Better then Advent Children or Double Dragon its a solid 5 out of 10

@@sasamichan Those things DON'T MATTER IF the Story is TERRIBLE and HORRIBLE Cole Young is The WORST Part about this movie his character was just unnecessary and maybe entire movie unwatchable (me and other fans were hoping that he would die throughout the entire movie but he didn't) the actor who played him was just awful where did they even find this guy and as for his connection to scorpion IT DOES NOT make his character interesting or compelling. The other characters were even worse Sonya and jax were forgettable Raiden was Terrible (he was just so boring and so was the actor that played him) Liu Kang was pretty weak he had absolutely no personality whatsoever and they played his character straight (I honestly prefer Robin shou from the 1995 film) Shang Tsung and the outworld fighters were all pretty forgettable and unmemorable The ONLY Good characters from this film were Kano Scorpion and Sub-Zero This film may get a sequel that will PROBABLY fix some of the problems with the first film or it will make the problems that many fans had with the first film even WORSE. I'm just not that optimistic or hopeful for the sequel

Meh I'm indifferent to this movie, my expectations were low on this one, mainly cause I'm not that big mortal kombat games, i played some of them but I'm not really all that invested in the story, but even i know alot of the lore in MK is flat out not in the movie, i also wanted to see some of original characters or the more popular characters i would like to have maybe even just have Curtis striker in the movie. But all in all its just a very meh movie for me. Edit. P. S. Raiden is the worst single most usless character in this movie.
