So beautiful! I wish I could go there. I just watched a video from a different country. I wonder why some keep their cities so clean and beautiful and others throw trash on the ground and have no respect for where they live.

Thank you very much for your comment! The best gime to go to Novi Sad is between April and October, but the winter in December is also ok, as there is winter festival, the main city square changes into a Christmas village. I hope you wli be able to see it.

2 criticisms 1 Learn how J is pronounced in Serbian 2 National consciousness of Serbs awoke in 13th century, some specualte even a few centuries earlier, it enver went away and is still going strong. Other than these, very excellent video.

Thanks for your comment. Regarding national awakening, between Serbs in Austro-Hungarian empire and for ghe creation of Serbian Vojvodina, as autonomous part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, it started in 19th century, as with most European nations. That include Serbian uprising and revolution that started in 1804.

There's a difference between ethnic identity and national consciousness. The problem in much of Europe -- especially those that were under ultra-nationalist communist regimes from the mid-1940s to the early 1990s -- is that, due to heavy government propaganda, many people can't distinguish between the nation-state and ethnicity, race, culture, language and religion. Hence they wrongly conflate them. In fact all of them are quite different and distinct, and confusion about this very basic issue leads to widespread conflict, bigotry and misinformation. The Serbian ethnic identity indeed arose in the 13th century if not earlier, but the widespread move for autonomy as an independent nation-state began in the 19th century and was directly related to the freedom from imperial rule, as in all of Southeast Europe.

Not quite. Serbian ethnic identity arose much earlier, between 8th and 10th century, and Serbian state was well developed with autonomous church in 12th century. Regarding 19th century, you are talking about Serbian state, but not about Serbian people in Vojvodina, that were under Austro Hungarian rule, where the national awakening and the need for autonomy arose in 19th century, and finished in 1918. with the unification with Serbia. So, we are talking about two things that differ. Serbs in Vojvodina were wakend by European national revolutions, while Serbs in other parts of modern Serbia started aprising against Otoman invadors, which finished in 1903. with the liberation of Kosovo and Metohija and Soufhern Serbia (now North Macedonia). Only after the First World War, Serbia united with Vojvodina and later liberated and united with, what is now known as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia.

@@ProfessorXplain that's debatable, as Serbs in Austria already had institutions and national consciousness in 18th century too, they also had a social caste.

Thats true, i would say in 16th century too, but their awakening to create autonomy started with Svetozar Miletic, Jasa Tomic, and company.

Thank you for your comment. It is part of Serbia, so Serbia. I know it is a part of Vojvodina, which belongs to Serbia 😀
