I respect contrarian opinions. The comps seem so forced. 16th? MVS and Demarcus Robinson and Mingo?! Those players did not produce at the same level in college at all. They compared to Gabe Davis in another video. Not nearly as athletic. Drops are definitely a concern though. If they showed better comps or really focused in on the drops, I'd believe it a little more. Just dont see how 8 or 15 WRs are better when all of the ones outside of top 3 have flaws.

Something to consider when evaluating BTJ - he didn't start playing football until his sophomore year of high school. He was a standout basketball player before that. The level he's at now isn't even CLOSE to where he can be with development.
@rulesyaface

It's not like most scholastic wr's are learning a diverse route tree. The fact is that he never developed that in 3 years at LSU and that's a major uh oh.
@smercxz
@smercxz 5 ай бұрын
@@rulesyafaceneither has Nabers and ppl try to compare him to MHJ which is hilarious btw cuz it’s not close. AT ALL. But anyway that’s just how LSU runs their scheme it’s not that complicated it’s very dumbed down. They get all these 4 and 5 star recruits and say hey you’re better than those other guys out there to win with athleticism. BTJ has the ability to run every route thought despite the shortcomings of LSU’s scheme and what they ask him to do. His breaks at his size in and out of cuts and explosiveness remind me so much of julio jones he’s a hands catcher as well he’s physically after the catch he gets even better RAC yards then some smaller guys. He’ll be alright
@MeannMugginn
@MeannMugginn 5 ай бұрын
@@smercxz but how does one know if he CAN run all the routes if he was never asked to do so in college? Look, I think Brian Thomas Jr. will be an excellent NFL player. He could be a Gabe Davis type that plays 90% of the snaps, stretches the defense, and makes big plays. But from what we have seen from him in college, there's not enough to suggest he will be doing more than that. Although I will say, ranking him 16th best in the class is ridiculous, he is way better than that.
@smercxz
@smercxz 5 ай бұрын
@@MeannMugginn BTJ is a better prospect than Gabe Davis. Bigger, faster, and more agile in and out of cuts. As far as BTJ’s route tree his combine gives a good idea he has the ability to run a more diverse route tree. Let’s look at someone like George Pickens he’s pretty good but limited route runner because he just doesn’t cut well on breaks. BTJ is EXPLOSIVE in and out of cuts. His combine numbers tell the type of athlete he is.
@MeannMugginn
@MeannMugginn 5 ай бұрын
@@smercxz okay, then forget Gabe Davis, let’s say Christian Watson, he was the best athlete of his class and in the NFL he’s a downfield splash play maker and he’s struggled to be more than that (admittedly injuries are a huge part of that) athleticism is not proportional to success at the nfl wide receiver position

I know I have seen that from physical stand point and speed, people have said he is the closest thing they have seen to Randy Moss since Randy Moss, now it's obvious he is VERY RAW and will need a LOT of coaching, but if comparison is true, not many GM's will want to say that they passed on possible next Randy Moss.

Lol. This guy said Randy Moss. The first time you saw Randy Moss at Marshall, you knew he was special. Thomas Jr is a body catcher that can't break tackles. He's MVS dude. Can he be very good? Sure but he's mostly likely will be closer to MVS than Randy Moss.

Lol. I just finish watching his 2023 highlights and the first thing that came to mine was Marquez Valdez Scantling (MVS). At 2:49 they also comp him to MVS. 100% accurate. He's big, he's fast but he catches every ball with his body. He cannot break tackles and he has drops. Not sure why people are so high on this guy.

I'm genuinely confused if we're watching the same guy? There are tons of plays of him catching short hitches or crossers and picking up extra yards from jukes. He's actually quite good at making the first defender miss after the catch. There are some contested situations where it'd be nice to see him catch the ball, but overall I didn't see hands/drops as a glaring red flag. Also, it's not at all just him running to open space in between zones-he has plenty of wins against man where he just beats the corner. Idk, ranking 8 or 15 other receivers ahead of him just seems crazy.
