Profoto Connect Remote Review and Overview - Wedding Photographer's Perspective

It’s a pity this is a misunderstood device. I don’t think it helps that Profoto just keep saying it’s for people getting into flash. I have both this and the Air Remote TTL. If you want more control then use the Air Remote TTL. What this is good for is on small camera bodies with run and gun one-light setups. You don’t need to use the app. As Raph points out in this video, just use flash comp in your camera and in manual just change the setting directly on the light.

This remote isn't for anybody. If photographers want simplicity they should stay away from this remote. You're paying $300 to pull out your iPhone and fiddle with an app while slowing down your work flow. This remote is a solution to a problem which doesn't exist.

If you have been in run and gun this is a no brander. 300 is a bit much but is this does what is says it does then pros not beginners will master this and get down on some images. WHAT!!!

@@rfaptrex There is no pro who isn't being paid by Profoto that will decide to use this remote instead of one with buttons. The only thing superfluous about this remote are the three settings. It either requires the person to go into camera settings to find flash controls it whip out a smart phone to control the remote to get it to control the lights. This thing is a joke.

@@RaphNogalPhotography Honestly, can you clearly state whom it is for? Firstly they removed the screen and are stating that it's for simplicity; while asking you to make changes through your phone or by digging through camera menus. Secondly, they claim it's targeted at people who are now getting into lighting. Really, with an introductory price of $300 for the remote and $1000 for their cheapest flash? Can you still actually try to justify this product?

MrBluesfly when some people are being paid they have to say what they were told to say by who is paying them. This remote is an utter joke and for anyone to recommend it shows both a lack of principles and knowledge.

Is it Forbidden and unprofessional to touch phone on a job. ?? Many times we had been tethering photos to clients and guests via phone. people who wants to be in the Profoto ecosystem will use this in a controlled environment. Since it's set once and keep snapping. It's ok... Considering that I don't need to keep tapping on the air remote to change the number of stops in the strobes and just slide across the smart phone to change multiple stops. Wedding maybe for the second shooter that the first shooter don't want them to mess up with his setting by giving them a air remote TTL... Can be for the first shooter Since OCF in ballroom are normally set to manual. Set once and keep shooting. It might not be for u nor us. Profoto might be testing the market with this product. Just step back and think out of the box. It might open new opportunities.
