even though it was only 2 songs with an interlude in-between, I honestly think it's the EP of the year for sure.... Both songs are absolute masterpieces and the ambience of the interlude really puts a beautiful contrast to the both em of along with setting the ambiance. Can't wait to see what they bring us in the future!

For real. This is such a beautiful piece of art. BUT.. putting Like Moths to Flames and Knocked Loose up against it.. I think it falls somewhere between second and third for me personally

@@elementyourmom Since I posted this two months ago... I actually have to give it to Void of Vision now... VoV absolutely killed it... Invent still a close second for me though. Personally wasn't a huge fan of Knocked Loose or LMTF's new EPs tho.

It’s real close man. For melodic, Metalcore type stuff, this is it for sure. But, And I Return to Nothingness by Lorna Shore was just pure awesome from front to back, and it had 3 full length songs. I think I liked the Lorna EP more, but a STRONG argument could be made for this instead

As If It Never Was, to me, is their best song yet. It carries weight, passion, it manages to be atmospheric while also still hitting you hard. This EP is so strong, it's one of the better EPs dropped this year.

Man, these guys really are making the kind of music I wish I could make, that blend of prog metalcore with post-rock and post-metal overtones, it's flawless. Considerng the fact that post-rock/post-metal and prog are my favorite genres, it's literally the perfect blend IMO. As much as I love modern Northlane, I'm glad that there is a band that really carried on the classic Northlane sound but more than that, these guys evolved that sound much further than Northlane ever did. Just insane.

Dude you have been missing out. Every single thing Invent Animate has done is just perfect. Everchanger is amazing. Stillworld is one of the best metalcore albums of all time, if not my all time favorite, and then Greyview was close to perfect as well. I kid you not this band does not have a bad song anywhere in their catalog. Go listen to all of their full length albums ASAP

For me I’m kind of the opposite, yeah they really are embracing the atmosphere in a very mature way, but I very much enjoy those chaotic moments intertwined within the atmosphere. It’s what always has drawn me toward them because in my mind it all makes sense to me. I don’t really hear it as random noises, but another form of atmosphere, the counter balance to the melodies and they’ve really coined that style more so than most bands that attempt to do something like that. I’m probably a bit biased when it comes to this band since I’ve been here since Waves, but I actually thought the chorus in As if was just ok, I didn’t like the beginning of the way it was scream sung, but when his singing voice lowered in tone to make the melodies in the “on your own” part, that was really nice especially since afterwards I get the chaos I’ve been anticipating. Everchanger has some seriously good choruses in it, and another good thing about that record, it’s not over done. Sometimes you get two choruses, but they don’t last but maybe 15 seconds each, and then some songs just have a really nice clean part in it, one of my favorite moments like that is in their song Forest Haven. I can listen to that album from start to finish and not realize I’ve listened to it four times in a row because it just attaches you and doesn’t want to let you go. This band is special for sure, though I still Ben as the vocalist, Marcus is holding his own and the band as a whole is onto something that will finally break more boundaries for them. I’m just stoked they never gave up, that’s why I respect them so much. They give a shit.

IMO, this EP is the best work that has been put out this year. Even though I love some Spiritbox's songs, I can’t quite get along with most of them, so I think they are a bit overrated, but that’s only my opinion. As for the new Sleep Token, I really like it, but I wish we had another song like Gods. But this EP, even though it has fundamentally only two songs, is amazing. The instrumentals are on point, the vocals are amazing (once you get used to them), and the ambience in the songs is really nice. I don’t think there is such a title, but I don’t really care : EOTY for me !
@craigbillow
@craigbillow 2 жыл бұрын
My hot take... I kinda didn't want another Gods on the new ST album. They've done that. I love how experimental and different TPWBYT is. It's all over the place, inspiration-wise. And I think that's it's strongest suit. We know they can get filthy. And they do it now and again on the new record, but overall it's much more about atmosphere and dynamics. I love it, personally. Give it a few more listens 😉

Yet again (I know I'm annoying) I've been following these guys since their first ep titled "Waves" and their first 2 full lenghts were 2 of my favorite prog metalcore albums back in the days, but my music taste has evolved and I feel like with this ep, they evolved enough to catch me back. I do still prefer the old vocalist, but this one is far from being bad, it's just that I saw a live performance last year and the vocals were kind of meh... It happens on long tour tho, he seems more than capable. Anyway, I still feel like the vocals are close enough to what they always were, so I'm fine with it.

Good analysis for sure! This EP is another impeccable monument for IA. Although one reason I love music is cause it’s subjective to the individual. Why I agree with on somethings, I equally find myself disagreeing on other things, such as invent animated chaotic “all over the place” sound. Let them be what the want to be and if you don’t like it that’s okay. At the same time, and this is where I agree, let them grow in maturity and evolve in sound. I want IA to be chaotic and not lose what they started out being as a band, but I also want them to experiment and step out more and be more than what they are. Hahaha it’s tricky what I’m saying but I think we get the point- they are the kings of ambience for sure!

I think Marcus has a lot of talent but I think Keaton, Trey and Caleb don't arrange their songs in a way that compliments him enough when they're writing. I think they could benefit from having Marcus present more during the writing stage instead of sending him instrumentals when they're done, like they do now. Periphery lets their vocalist arrange their songs which always works very well for them. I think Marcus could benefit from honing in on where he wants to be in his vocal range at different parts in the song because he is a little random with his range. Overall I think they're heading in a great direction. I just want the vocals and instruments to have a more centralized approach.
