I can't say I've ever listened to this album, I think brave was the last one that I've listened to in full. I only really get the fish era.

Totally agree with your review Darren, this really wasn't one of their better efforts, man of a thousand faces and the title track is all I could ever listen to

Thank you Darren. I remember about TSE thinking "H is taking some power". You can hear that on "Beatles-esque" songs like "One Fine Day" or "80 days". At the time i remember liking some of the songs but the production sounded iffy (and that includes the mix and mastering). Yes, things were changing for Marillion over that span of 3 "indie" albums. Just before Marillion choose to live with the fans money only. I think that Santa Claus will bring that Deluxe Edition 2024 under the tree.

Nicely done, Darren. What have you done for them to block you, haha. I can’t imagine! I really like this album, and have always felt the production was a bit dry and muddy. Nonetheless, enjoyed it and still do. Although the title track meanders a bit, I do love the middle section, I think; it’s been a while since I listened to it, but if I’m not mistaken, one of the exciting parts of this track has to be the climax by the end. However, I do agree with you in regards of the EMI support and guidance that would support the band to achieve recognition, and if I may add, Marillion is a band that needs that balance, they work so much better better with that counterpart, also they need a strong producer, an outsider that gives them focus and restraint. But what do I know? Glad they will issue the albums from this patchy period!! Cheers & Prog On!!!

I had a good think about this and I reckon it might stem from me being very critical of them poncing off their fans for COVID insurance money so they could tour, which to me seemed exploitative.

One thing definitely never changing about Marillion (just in my view) are powerful positive vibes spreading from their music. "Man of 1000 Faces". The final section is an obvious instance. As for the reissue, I was surprised to hear quite a fast version of "Lap of luxury" - never thought they ever played it that fast. The reissue sound in general - very satisfying (only heard the streaming high-res version so far). I praise the updated cover and wonder what comes next...are they going to do...M Dot Com remix? Or maybe "Somewhere Else"?
