Programming a FAAC 787542 gate remote

How to program the FAAC787542 gate remote controller. This is what I have gathered about the 455D controller. Use you own discretion regarding this video's correctness.

Thanks Gary. I really appreciate you making this vid. While your instructions didn't work for me as-is, I experimented and found this combo that worked for me. Thought I'd share for the benefit of others: 1. Press and hold button 1 on the remote. 2. Press and hold the learn button on the controller for 5 seconds. 3. Release the learn button but keep button 1 pressed for a further 5 seconds. The learn light will flash, then go solid. 4. Wait for the learn light to go off completely. 5. Test the remote button. 6. Repeat for each remote.

I hadn't been able to reprogram a new remote for over a year, then spotted the instruction in your video "STAND NEAR YOUR GATE CONTROLLER" did that and programmed the replacement first time - thanks so much, it is very true how little information is supplied on programming replacement remotes. the only issue I had was that for a minute or two after programming the gates didn't respond to anything, not the new or the old remote - initially thought I had broken the original remote using this procedure, but after a couple of minutes both remotes worked perfectly - thanks again

Hi Gary - Greetings from the West of Ireland - Just programmed my new FAAC 787542 Remote (€26 including delivery on the “Bay”) by following your excellent step by step instructions. As I didn’t have a working remote as you suggested I located the tiny switch on the wireless card and programmed the new remote from there. I used the same process on the old remote and it returned to “life” and is now working perfectly - Thanks a Million - Gerry ☘️

the video is still very helpfull. Saved me lots of bucks, after I've lost all my remote controllers. Technic would replace the whole motor unit. Doing a reset (20sec) and then reprogramming a new remote did the job very well. Thank you, sir !

hi gary, i really like your honesty ! also many "installer" arent expert too. if something is not working and they havent installed it their answer is : we change all. I'm living in a small apartment complex, with 2 gates : one sliding and one with 2 "doors" after about 18 years the sliding one had issue was lockdown in open. they changed gears motor boards all sensors even the key switch plus added a lot of safety that earlier werent present. after less than a week flashing lamp wasnt working. the new "safety stuff" also was poorly installed and made really difficult to use the key switch. so they had to move it in an usable way. Then, after 2 weeks gate was again lockdown open.... 3 problem in less than a month. finally they seems to have solved that and "magically" the same day the "tecnician" fix the sliding gate, in the evening we noticed the OTHER gate was fail. lock open. coincidence. bad luck... maybe? According to the caos teory probably a butterfly in the pacific fart, and our other gate fails... yeah the "new" fail syntomps both doors open \close normally, but seems they are starting to move at same time = they collide in closing movement. remote works perfectly. called the apartment complex managment agency 6 times. nobody know if the tecnician worked on the second gate.... then the owner of my flat call the same office: he got this answer: there is a problem on one of the motor it's moving SLOW ... there is a problem on the main board that has to be changed... and probably we'll have to change all the remote controls. woah!

A closing delay must be set for leaf 2 in order to correct this.

Hi my remote is programmed with the top left button (p4) acting as the remote open/close door button. Does this change the initial step of holding down p1 & p2?

Thank u it helped me a lot got a remote programmed....as i lost my Master remote was in a bizarre condition...not knowing how to program.....but like to know if a remote can be used to open two Arm barriers...as i am scared if i try to program with other barrier i need to reset and reprogram again in this process i might loose the 1st barrier connectivity.

Hello Ishaq B. You have no problems with a single or dual gate system. The control of single or two arm systems is part of the gate controller and has nothing to do with a remote. Put simply your gate remote just sends a signal to your gate controller rather like a push button press, then the controller does the rest. Just program a remote as shown in my video. When you press the chosen button (1 to 4) the gates will open as they always have one gate moves first & the 2nd gate a few seconds later.

Hi Denis, just another through. It might that the push button it's self does not work. Use a small bit of wire to short both ends of the push button. If the red LED lights your good to go.

The programming button on my receiver card will only stay on if I hold it down continuously. Once I release it the LED turns off immediately. Am I doing something incorrectly? Trying to reprogram an old remote.

Hi Denis. It might be that the red LED has failed. Question: does any remote open the gate? that sort of helps prove the little board is accepting code from a remote. If so try to program a new remote AFTER pressing the button even is the RED LED does not light. If the remote does not program then it means there is a problem with the little board. The problem now is the age of this system(20yrs approx). The FAAC 787542 gate controller is three generations old compared to new models so getting parts via is difficult unless you can find one for sale on EBAY or similar. Might be time to upgrade.

Hi Francesco I am sorry I am not a controller specialist and have had no training on gate controllers. Service of Medical Instruments, Research Devices was my area so I did my best the the FAAC controller.

Hey Gary - the receiver installed on my 455 D control panel is a 12 dip switch versus the programmable version in your video. Do you know if the receivers can be easily swapped out? FAAC no longer makes the older version 12 dip switch remote and I need a few more remotes. Looking for the most cost effective solution as I was also having a hard time finding 418 Mhz remotes with 12 dip switch capabilities.

It will work fine but remote controls wont work.

Yes, the memory on the small receiver card is non-volatile, it will still be there when you reconnect the card.

The BATTERY in the remote might be getting flat. 1st step change the battery in the remote. It's usually a 12volt 23A but open it an have a look. Still a problem it might be the electronics in the controller. Looking carefully at my video please note the ANTENNA shown in the plug in card, it's the miserable bit of BLACK wire. Try straightening it out see what happenings. Still no good try getting a bit of stiff covered wire, do two or three turns around that black wire then hang off some wire to make it twice as long. It's cheating with the (gain & standing wave) antenna but it might help. Give it a go!

Hi Jdy, to clear ALL codes just hold down the learning button for a good twenty seconds and all codes are gone. You should now have a blank memory able to hold I think over two hundred codes. Just remember if you clear and reprogram each remote using the learn button as shown in the video you use up one of those memory locations. But if you copy a blank remote via a working remote uou merly make a COPY of the working remote. That does not use up an address slot since it just an identical copy

Sorry for the delay. I've been out of the country (OZ) but you are perfectly correct. Hold down the learn button in the controller for 60 seconds to be on the safe side & ALL memory locations are GONE. The all you need to do is reprogram all remotes. To KILL off the old memory address by holding down two buttons at the same time for say 15 seconds (usually 1 & 3) if no joy try other combinations till you find the magic combination & that will work for all remotes. Then follow my video to reprogram your wiped remotes. Bye bye

I don't think so. The 455D system uses remotes on 433megahertz. But try looking up 'gate remotes' on EBAY you will find remotes compatible with the FAAC 455D system for about $8-$10 delivered. Other wise you can try programming your remote as per the video. If nothing happens then it's not compatible.

Thanks for the video, very informative but unfortunately I can't get a new remote programmed. I bought a new FAAC (XT2 433 SLH LR) remote but can't clone it from the only existing remote we have (existing one is not an FAAC remote, it's a no-name brand - cant get it into 'clone' mode (flashing led). Here is what I've tried: - Press button 1 and 2 on the FAAC XT2 until LED starts flashing - Press the remote learning button on the radio receiver board. Red led light comes on - Press one of the buttons on the FAAC XT2 for 2 (or more seconds). LED on the XT2 comes on but does not flash I've also tried: - Press the remote learning button on the radio receiver board. Red led light comes on - Press and hold one of the buttons on the FAAC XT2 for at least 2 seconds - The led on the XT2 does not flash I must be doing something wrong :( If I press one of the two buttons on the XT2 I get two flashes, not a single one as I'd expect.

You have done your best and forfeited a lot of time. If you have even tried pressing down two buttons on the remote (usually 2 & 3 ) for at least ten seconds together to wipe any previous program in the remote and still nothing & you have changed out the battery then I'd accept the remote is a dud. Personally I would not waste any more time on the FAAC remote. Return it to the seller. Then go to EBAY and search for an alternate no brand remote. There are plenty of sellers out there and the remotes are cheap & work well.
