What type of cable do you use from the laptop to that 9 pint to the data converter, is it a 9pin to 9pin or a USB to 9pin? Ect

It is a 9pin serial to 9pin serial. The software was designed to be used with older X86 PCs and is looking for the traditional serial port on IRQ1 thru 9. I have found that the USB serial cables don't always perform the serial port emulation IRQ values correctly and the software may not find the serial port when scanning for it. I have been told by others that they had no problems using the USB serial port emulators. I guess you will just have to try and see if it works for you.

Hi Rob, Any idea why when I launched the Whelen SC programmer, a message pops up "CommPort1 is unavailable or is being used by another application. Communications will be disabled." Also, on the output tab, the "Transfer to MPC" is grayed out. The other options are not. Your help will be highly appreciated.

In device manager for windows, check to see what port numbers are being used. Sometimes a mouse or touch pad can be assigned to port 1 and the serial port may be assigned to port 2 or 3. Figure that out then change the SC software to use that port number for the serial port. The Transfer to MPC button will not be available until the port issue is resolved.

I got the software from whelen. I emailed them and they sent me a CD in the mail, FREE.

You have the Red and Black cables from the mpc01 unit connected to the Power (+5-12v) and Gnd ports of the data converter respectively. I thought the power output of the data converter from PC is 5v not enough to power on the mpc01 hence you are using the wall power adapter 12v supply. If so, the black and red can be connected to the 12v supply without having to connect to the RS485. Is that right?

@@TheIanteh Thanks for the question. Both the MPC01 and the RS485 data converter both need 12V in order to work.
