I just changed my Progressive 412's out. I got the standard springs at the stock length. I installed some Legends 13" shocks with a set of nice 1" lowering blocks. These are expensive but worth the cost. My 1200 Iron rides so much more comfortable and it doesn't have the much more of a lean on the side stand. I'll be putting my Progressive's up for sell at a very reasonable price. I was so dissatisfied with the stock length Progressives.

Nice install, they look real good. Try not to use extensions if you're worried about correct torque. If you have to use one and you are concerned about the proper torque numbers then it's nice to have a torque analyzer.

What effect does an extention have on the torque? Just curious never heard of that.

Just googled it straight extensions have no effect its only if you use universal or angle adapters.
@dualsportdiary1150
@dualsportdiary1150 3 жыл бұрын
In my experience any sort of extensions or adapters or cat claws will effect the torque. We always used a torque analyzer even with no attachments at all in my field (it was a requirement) The listed torque on the handle also is rarely what the wrench is putting out. Anything added just exasperates that as well. it's not that big of a deal thou. Many billions of bolts have been installed just fine. That's why I said "if you're worried about correct torque". I myself, in the home environment rarely use a torque wrench on anything. Just Head bolts and critical items. If not, the ol hand and brain method do a pretty good job in my opinion. No biggie, but something I have seen and experienced hands on.

Advice needed please: 1st bike 2020 Sportster 1200 and Im a new rider. I mostly ride around town and just did a 75 mile moto camping trip. Perfect at lower speeds but once I hit 55 and above its a little bit of a rough ride. In fairness we were on some back country roads that were a little rough. My question is I want to invest as you have, in some upgrade mods. My main goal is to smooth the ride out as much as possible. In your opinion what mods made the biggest different in the ride of your sportster? Seat upgrade, shocks etc.....My only mod so far has been the Memphis Shade upgrade that you suggested. I love my sportster and dont want to upgrade to a softail or something bigger right now. I just like the nimble sportster for short rides and dont need the 6 gear and extra speed that the Milwaukee engine would provide. I dont plan to do any touring just short day trips and mainly ride around town. I really enjoy your videos and trust your opinion. Thanks in advance and looking forward to your response.
@MotorcyclingwithCarl
@MotorcyclingwithCarl 3 жыл бұрын
I have to say the Memphis Shades Fairing made the biggest difference. I found at least for me that the progressive front fork springs took some vibration out of the bars. But that was not a super easy install but if you do it yourself its worth the $100 but if you had to pay to have someone do it it could be costly. And im a heavier guy so the rear shocks did make a difference in comfort for me. As far as the seat not really any performance benefit just makes longer rides more comfortable. I have found the more miles I am doing on it and the more highway riding I do on it the more comfortable I am getting with it. Give it some time and miles and im sure you will feel more comfortable.

Awesome upgrade Carl. I was thinking to go exact shocks as yours. 412 heavy 11”. Was wondering if 11”, do the tyres or the swingarm touches the rear fender or the oil tank respectively, at any point? If so, u mentioned u’d go for longer ones, due to that reason or riding position?
@MotorcyclingwithCarl
@MotorcyclingwithCarl 2 жыл бұрын
I only think the longer ones would be better because it does give it more distance from bottoming out. I am not sure where it makes contact when it bottoms out but with my stock shocks when not set correctly the bike bottomed out alot. I wish the dealers would spend more time setting up the bikes for people on delivery because some people don’t have the knowledge to do it and they ride the bike like that and it’s not right. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@MotorcyclingwithCarl Great video Carl. I'm curious as to why you would go a little longer. Would you do 11.5 or 12? I'm thinking about getting these for my 2020 Iron 1200.

I went 12” 412’s and I like them haven’t scaled pegs yet or bottomed out yet. I think 12.5 would be my max because the gap on the rear tire starts to look weird! 12” it still looks good!!
