It takes less muscles to smile than to frown, so the smiling actually allows Al to utilize more energy towards some of the harder movements. It's science!

It has been my goal to perform everything I have seen in this video and the only thing I cannot do is the one arm chin-up. I started out not being able to do a full pull-up.

Yo Alkavaldo, First of all, great video !! I Love Love doing Pull-Ups !! This is My #1 most most favourite exercise, and I remember watching this video of Yours back in 2013 ( when You uploaded this video ). Its been more than 7 Years now, and no matter which country I visited, or what My diet was like, whether or not I had access to a Gym, or whether I was working / studying or what have You, I’ve always squeezed out time from My schedule to crack out some nice good old Pull-Ups. I used to do that “One Hand Pull-Up” ( that You do at 1:15 ), however I remember it took Me a lot of time to reach there… I had to take the help of “Weighted Pull-Ups” to crack out the “One Arm Pull-Up”. Wasn’t an easy journey… What I love about Pull-Ups is that they are so so intense. Even if I take out 15-20 Minutes from My schedule to do Pull-Ups, I get such an intense workout… Pull-Ups for Life !!

Depends if overhands or underhands, overhands close grip (hands touching) is most likely the hardest regular pullup

have you ever tried a J pull up? It's like doing the L-sit pull up, but you have your back parallel with the ground and your legs in the air, perpendicular to the ground

Thanks Al, this video helped a lot. I got stuck doing CC on the Pull up section and I got to the jack knife pull up but couldn't seem to figure out how to do it but now I know the proper form :)

I remember he said he trains every day - as he feels that day. For strength you can do they same movement daily, Olympic Lifters do it, under the condition that you refrain from going to failure.

I achieved, yesterday, a negative one-arm chin up and I am able to lock my arm at a 90 degree angle, and hold it there for 5 seconds. The small round muscle near my elbow, underneath the bicep (behind the arm if you do an ordinary bicep flex pose) hurts. What is that actually? Is that part of the tricep muscle? I'm taking 2 weeks off from one arm training and cutting back on my pullups a bit, just to be safe.

Hey Al, does the reverse grip pull up train different muscles than the forward grip pull up? If so which ones?
@claybutler

An underhand grip, particularly with a narrow stance, hits the biceps really hard and hits the long outer lats hard. An overhand grip hits the rear deltoids and interior trapezoid harder. People who have strong lats but weak biceps (like myself) can generally do more reps with an overhand grip where people with strong biceps but weaker lats will be able to do more reps underhand.

Very odd progression, the one handed pull-up shouldn't be your penultimate exercise. These are much easier than some of the earlier exercises like the muscle-up or the clapping pull-up.

just re-watched it, it is painfully obvious he is using momentum .. why did he not do it from dead hang? coincidence? of course not! he goes up .. goes down, then does the pull up, thus using momentum, still impressive though! I am not doing it ;
