This is an excellent Marillion recording from a short BBC session they did in late January 1982, very early in their career.
As bootlegs are just that, bootleg recordings, I've done some restoration work.
The restoration work looks something like this:
WAV (16-48) - EQ - Bass restoration work - Linear phase compression - slight limiter - KZbin.
Enjoy!

This session has some of Steve Rothery's finest guitar work. That additional solo during Forgotten Sons should have made it to the album. Mark Kelly' steals the show during The Web as well.

Wow!!! I heard the the late great Tommy Vance do a trailer for this at the time on the radio. He said it was their most requested session ever!!! But Marillion meant nothing to me then, and so I missed it. And then I bought 'Script' and was hooked. A couple of things strike me. The versions of 'Three Boats' and 'The Web' here are possibly better than the ones they eventually recorded. And I never really knew why the band sacked Mick Pointer until now.

Fish for ever!😻👍

Line-up: Mick Pointer - drums (band founder with bassist Doug Irvine 1978 - Silmarillion), Steve Rothery - lead guitar (joined Silmarillion August 1979), Fish - vocals, Diz Minnitt - bass (Fish and Diz joined January 1981), Mark Kelly (joined November 1981 successor of Brian Jelleymann who had joined in October 1979). So it's a wrong band photo for the recording. Pete Trevawas was not in the band at that time. There are Marillion promo photos available with Diz Minnitt in the band.

@@ProgressiveVinyl ...one Q pls if I may...prior to their first LP release I remember that I have heard Marillion in BBC1 radio show...a rock show that was every Friday between 10pm to 12pm...and then I saw them live in Marquee Club before the release of their first LP...could you kindly remind me the date of that specific gig?...was on the 7 of March 1982 or on December 1982...Thanks a lot...the only thing that I remember is that there was not a supporter group before their appearance...

This is excellent. I'm listening back to the Friday Rock Shows that I would have heard first time around. Last night I listened to the show first broadcast 26 Feb '82, when this session was first broadcast. As is often the case, the session recording is very enjoyable but unfortunately the recording we have of that show is very poor quality. I'm so pleased to find a recording of the session that sounds so good. Thank you!

Definately my fav version of forgotten sons, Fish sounds alot more agressive on this session. (the debut album was a bit toned down), - and the 1st slice of marillion for me, -around the same period, "market square heroes" was released as a single, so we all went out and bought the 12", with grendel on the b side. lots of other great prog bands recorded sessions on the FRS- in the early to mid 80's. pendragon/IQ/the enid/solstice/trilogy/hibiscus/the movie stars/as above so below/multi story and more.
