I feel they have a very similar approach - both of them are story tellers through their fingers. Both of them construct their solo's as a story to tell, complete with prologue, main story line, leading up to a massive conclusion and finally redemption. Also both are giving the solo its place but it is still in service of the song, not the reason for the song. There are very few who can do that, for me Steve and David are standing high and proud.
