@@TheDarrenLock I was going to buy Oldfields latest release thingy, just on principle. Yes, I'm a not so closet MO fan. CD's are expensive in the antipodes (we're still waiting for Captain Cooks return visit. We got sick of waiting for more Rum, so now make our own. CD's are troublesome...the Funnel Web spiders keep using them as hover-craft. Mind you, the kangaroos look absolutely fabulous, all glammed up with multiple iridescent disks hanging from their fur. We tried using CD's as a shark repellent for British back-packers...didn't work. Funny enough, a CD pendent on a German back-packer really upsets the Croc's in the far north, I wonder about the synchronicity there? ...Anyway, I thank you for enlightening me about the Mike Oldfield stuff. Now I am a better informed idiot. (Exclaimer..No back-packers, of any nationality, or ethnicity, or religiousness, or gender were intentionally slighted). Kangaroos are to hard to harness, likewise lethal spiders(fitting the bridle is tricky, and inserting the 'bit' is...someone else's job). And I want your T-shirt(well, not yours exactly, but a new clean one of my own!)

Cheers Darren. Good one. I remember buying the Boxed set back in the 70s, and struggling to get decent pressings. Had to go back to the record shop several times. I'm happy with the 2009 deluxe CD set. It's got everything TB I want.

50th anniversary? Where did the time go? Incidentally, my version of the album is the Daily Mail one. My childhood memories of this album are listening to the original pressed vinyl with my dad. Good times. When the re-recorded version of 2003 happened I was excited until I listened to it and besides its "facelift", I could NOT handle John Cleese as the announcer. That totally destroyed it. Nice T-shirt though... 😊

The Stereo Mix was also on a 2 CD Disc Called "The Collection" CD1 was Stereo Mix 1 & 2 The Mike Oldfield Single , And Sailors Hornpipe (Viv Stanshall version) , A Black Slip case with traditional art work on the cd case . I quite liked the Stereo mix more side 2 as that's where you could make out more of an update .. Prob would not of Bought it if it was the same original TB version as what's the point ?

15:50 I'd agree with those, sometimes Surround thingamagic is more towards onto a gimmicky, I still remember when you mentioned Tarkus Surround mixes in your prog review, they don't have that kind of magic (no pun intended) stereo field to it, becuz each layer recorded differently, so I still prefer stereo, but again maybe it's just me who also works on music

Surround sound in general is a gimmick. Nothing beats stereo! 👍

Hi Darren, I’m happy with my 1998 25th anniversary edition on gold CD, but like all these re-issues if you don’t have a high end Hi Fi system , there’s no point, unless you just collect for the sake of collecting.

He did an interview in prog magazine which did a tubular bells 50th anniversary edition of the mag, it's a good read, Oh and I too have a tubular bells T-shirt only it's dark blue and long sleeve. A woman in the pound bakery in wigan (I went to have a look at their vey good selection of guitars in cash converters) yesterday asked what it was, she said its something to do with skateboarding, I said its tubular bells Mike oldfield, she didn't have a clue.

Totally agree about the 2003 remake which while good in it's way just doesn't have the atmospherics of the original, oh and sorry Mr Cleese but your a poor subsitute for the wonderful Mr Stanshall. Entertaining & informative as ever & dare i ask is The Moody Blues 'On The Threshold Of A Dream' prog?

Now as usual, one could watch this or any of Darren’s reviews and not know if he likes the album or not. Because he always plays his cards very close to his chest. One could assume he likes it since he owns all this stuff, but maybe that’s just because it’s a prog classic and that’s what one does. So Darren, DO you like the album? 😅

They should have a law about artists being banned from remaking or changing their earlier works. Mike Oldfield ruined Hergest Ridge by remixing it. Shame he couldn't just remaster it.

Well Hergest Ridge was remixed back in 1975 and when he remixed for the deluxe editions, he returned it to its original format. 👍
