When compiling a model, Crowbar is telling me that it cant compile because it uses more than 32 materials, but it really uses 30 >.> any way to fix this ?

I figured out how to do it without hl2. When compiling in crowbar, click set up games, add, type garrys mod in the name of game, the location of game is in garrysmod/garrysmod ( Click the only one that is not a folder) and the game's model compiler is in garrysmod/bin (Also the only non folder that shows) then click save and close

I'm trying to use pac 3, I got the OBJ files which is a piece of clothing such as a shirt. I can move the shirt around but I can't bone merge it to my player because the shirt has no bones, like the sleeves. When I was in Blender exporting it, I could see the bones for the shirt but now that I pasted the OBJ link in the "models" tab it doesn't have bones, any ideas?

+Timbleweebs I had an issue on my model where there were missing textures. This happened after I exported my .smd file onto my desktop from Blender. The program warned that my model have missing textures, but, being brand new to Blender, I don't know how to fix the texture issue for my model. I can use the model, but the textures has the pink and black checker design. Can you help with this problem?

Also for anyone wants to edit the models color: You need to get VTFEdit and what I'd recommend photoshop. Open up the files (.vtf) in VTFEDIT, Then export as .png or .jpg and open it in photoshop. There you can change the colors by going to images > adjustments > replace color and then just overwrite the old and it should work.

Hi, I know this post is a little old but when I go into Gmod and hold "C" I see a slot for my PM and it's just a big ERROR sign. The addons legacy tab while holding "Q" (Im using the extended spawnmenu addon) shows my PM model but as a checkered black and purple texture. My "$cdmaterials" line as i can tell is correct to my folder. I did not use you Vector or Starfox model, but something close to my PM, so I have three lines of "$cdmaterials" - $CDMaterials "models e_rc\yoko" $CDMaterials "models e_rc\" $CDMaterials "" I do not own hl2 so for my "Model Compiler" option i chose "Garry's Mod(using source SDK base 2013 MP) is this the problem? I know you said this cant be a full trouble shooting source but seem's to me a lot of people are having this same problem with ERROR PM's and checkered PM's, I am accepting all the help you guys are wiling to offer. I had this problem. Are your Steam files on a separate hard-drive? Or perhaps in a different folder? If so, click on the 'Setup Games' tab, located on the far right within the compile tab. it looks like this: gyazo.com/6ded9156ad7b30dc6a37858df1b7186c this window will pop up: gyazo.com/7d602e78b645675eada3264b317ae494 As you can see my path isn't default (not within the C: Drive) this is because I keep all my Steam games within a separate hard-drive. Now you must find the proper path to the Half-Life 2 'gameinfo.txt' and 'bin' Copy the path and paste the Half-Life 2 'gameinfo.txt' path into the first field, then paste the Half-Life 2 'bin' path into the field below. Hit 'Save and Close' I hope this helps!

For all those watching and got this error in crowbar: Crowbar ERROR: The model compiler, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin\studiomdl.exe", does not exist. Here is a quick fix: Go into the set up games tab on the left end of crowbar click it now what the error means that some programs in gmod used for crowbar to work are in a different spot than what crowbar thinks they are so just put all the programs where they are here is an example to follow: Note: ignore the add and clear the drive isin't important it doesn't need to be changed Mine is compiled for Garry's Mod so mine looks like this. The bolded words are buttons you should click, ignore the add and clear button. Ivan2249 thebest I found a solution, it seems that it's a bug with the current version of crowbar so the best thing to do is to download a legacy/old version of crowbar (I downloaded 0.19), you can see the old versions on their steam page.

When i use Source SDK 2013 Multiplayer for some reason it only compiles my mdl instead of the .vvf .vtx .phy .mdl .vtx but when i do garrysmod it complies my mdl and the rest of the files so should i compile with garrysmod then compile with HL2 for the mdl and replace the mdl I compiled with garrysmod?

i have to get half-life 2 in order to successfully compile model, don't i? when i accessed the reference file, it started popping up as back to starwolf reference when i know i renamed the file like you said in the video to vector. i noticed the first time i saw an error the name wasn't the same as vector in the browse box and then i got an error that says hl2/gameinfo.txt doesn't exist. if i do need the game half-life 2 to finish this tutorial then i'll get it, as far as i know afterwards i'm confident i can keep up with the rest of your tutorial and i hope to get my own player model in. i didn't mess with any other of the bone ball joints from starwolf but i completely changed the vector character mesh into my own design while still using the name vector for filing reference in c++.

I'm using an updated version of Crowbar (since this video was made about a year ago), and I received this error when trying to compile: Crowbar ERROR: The game's "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2\gameinfo.txt" file does not exist. Possible causes: The game's SDK or Authoring Tools has not been installed (usually via Steam Library Tools) or the path given to Crowbar (via Set Up Games button) is incorrect. This error was seen when i set the game to 'Half-Life 2' under 'Compile'. This newer version of Crowbar (Crowbar 0.34) actually has the option of setting the game under 'Compile' to Garry's Mod: the name of it was: 'Garry's Mod (using Source SDK Base 2013 MP)'. I don't know what Source SDK Base 2013 MP, but I tried it anyway and got this error: Crowbar ERROR: The game's "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer\hl2\gameinfo.txt" file does not exist. Another user seems to have this problem and I have yet to find a solution. I've never encountered an error like that on Blender before, try compiling it anyways and try it out in Gmod. If it doesn't work I'll try to figure something out.

Oh! Well I fixed the weight paint issue by checking each bone for weight paint not meant to be there. Also, On the shoulder i accidentally colored the whole arm instead of just the shoulder, so it overlaps and becomes all distorted. I just made sure I had all the places I wanted to be painted, painted. Overlapping weight paints is what distorts it. Also, I tried out the model in gmod like you said. Completely textureless. Idk why, in Blender you can clearly see the textures, but when I export it, POOF! IT says they arent assigned! ;_; If you want, I can add you over steam so we can talk more about it/I could send you my file and see if you get the same issue.

This tutorial is great, but it still doesn't work for me. I've tried countless times, I've spent days trying to get this to work with all different sorts of tutorials, I've even managed to get pretty far sometimes, but it never seems to actually work like it's supposed to. Could I pay someone to put a skeleton on my mesh and materials and turn it into an actual decent playermodel for GMod? I'm sick of trial and error, because I never seem to learn to make it work just perfect, even following tutorials step-by-step doesn't seem to do the trick.

It's actually a character I made with Fuse, it works as a ragdoll, but it needs a bigger spine because Valve...

I never received the _logs folder from when I decompiled the starwolf reference model in the last video, and have kept up to this part so far. The only thing that pops up when I compile is: Compiling with Crowbar 0.33.0.0: "C:\Users\User\Desktop\sw Decompiled" (folder + subfolders) ... Compiling ".\mikuru_nurse_reference.qc" ... ... Compiling with Crowbar 0.33.0.0: "C:\Users\User\Desktop\sw Decompiled" (folder + subfolders) finished. and then I look in the file I have saved it to, and nothing's there! I don't know what to do! It might have to do with my current crowbar release, because it's different from yours. Any help would be great! Thanks!

+Zonne Toons For version 0.33, it's next to where it says "games that has the model compiler" under options. You'll have to do what +Yuki Azusa-Nyan said and direct both the gameinfo.txt and the compiler in the right place.

washin475rd Usually this happens due to a typo or mis-configuration of the "$cdmaterials" line in the .qc file. Make sure the folders that you placed the materials in match what you wrote in the $cdmaterials line of the .qc.

+Timbleweebs the model I made and pit in gmod is black and pink and white when I compile the .qc file in crowbar, I go to view and it tells me that I'm missing certain .vmt files. For example "lucas_face.vmt" "lucas_hairB.vmt" etc

NOOOOOOOOOOO My model has more then 32 materials, so crowbar didn't let me finish the compile ;-----; idk what to do now ik you can kinda mess with the textures to use the same ones for different materials but i dont have a clue how ;-----------------------------------;

When this happens, it means you don't have hl2. However, you can install Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer to fix the problem. It is also one of the compiling options and works just the same.

check for syntax errors in your lua file and make sure all of you directories are correct.

Nice. Followed every single step, everything seems to work perfectly, then finally go to Gmod, look for Vector playermodel aaaaand... big red error text the only thing i did differently is that at compiling process i chose teamfortress2 because i dont have halflife.

What is the "Texture" in blender, and what is the "material"? And which do I use? The textures were given to me in the download but the material I can't access. My textures in game are pink and black. Would this contribute to that? Thanks. And a quick question, how much does the qc influence the pm after adding it into the game? I have no "physics" file, Nor do I have anything similar to the Notepadd++ stuff I was shown. I didn't use the same models, so it might be that. but I'll just go with it.
