Word of advice for newbies; before you set up the rig, go to the File section of User Preferences and turn on Auto Run Python Scripts! It will save you a LOT of time and grief in rigging--my hip bone rigs refused to work at all until I turned it on! It'll give you a lot more options in controlling a rig in Blender, too!

This has to be one of the best tutorials on blender I have seen. I've seen ok tutorials, but some are either way to slow (which is understandable if it's for beginners), or way too fast without saying the keys they hit. I know a bit about blender. Not much on rigging, especially nothing on rigging the face, and I know nothing about the node editor stuff or cycle render. I love this software for that reason. Someone can learn a lot about blender and create cool things, but there is always more things to mess with and explore creating newer and cooler things. This software is the best because of how it's free and you can do whatever you want with it. Thanks for this tutorial.

great tutorial so far very straight forward, I have a nugget of useful info for the beginner that will save a lot of frustration, I had this problem a good number of times before I actually figured it out. HEY YOU! READ THIS!!>> If you change the SCALE of the/a BONE in "ObjectMode" (NOT EditMode), it will cause the rig to perform INCORRECTLY! If your rig and mesh seem to STRECH when you are in PoseMode trying to animate, this is the problem. I don't know how to fix it, maybe if you apply the scale to the rig with alt+S "Apply scale" in ObjectMode that may work but not sure. Just be careful with your Modes people! (So happy to know this now, truly.)

I have version 2.78 and when I go into pose mode to rotate the bones on the armature it rotates them without rotating the actual arm or leg on the armature, does anyone know how to fix this?
@Great.Milenko7 жыл бұрын
check your modifier stack to make sure the armature modifier is active in the meshes properties?? if you mean it doesnt rotate the rest of the armature (ie , knee bones and ankle bones, when you move the hip, then make sure each bone is parented to the previous bone in the chain) make sure the mesh has weightpainting done meaning check that there are vertex groups for all of the bones that need to move "stuff", (this next one sounds dumb but its sometimes possible by accident);- make sure there is really only one armature there, and if you accidently duplicated it and then say, deleted the original, the armature modifier will not be able to find the armature its looking up check the armature modifier in the properties window shows the right armature object. If all else fails open your file in 2.79 and see if it works there, if it does work there then post on blenderartists and see if its a problem for others as you might have a bug.

Good point, TheCrimson147 you find what Ach Hadda was talking about? There should be a "weight" value option next to it (assign vertex to group with weight of x), 0=no influence 1=total Influence. I've not used it but its perfect for mechanical stuff.
@aandre3117 жыл бұрын
it wont look good because there will bee no fades of weight paint. weight pain will give you a more natural look on your animations.

After a while you can program actions. Running, jumping, punching and so on. That way you dont have to do specifics every time. After one show episode you will realize you can make games and can also tag the actions to a specific button. depends on what the controller looks like.

I know this is old, but just a detail: The stormtrooper model probably isn't the best to show this technique on, since his armor would inhibit his movement, namely in the beginning when you talk about how weird it would be to see a human spine only bend in one place; well, with only one part of the spine not being confined to armor, he would actually bend only there in that flexible spot! I'd say 2 joints max and just on the meshy part in between the plates.

Now you think into the future when you hit your 30s, you are gonna be a god damn pro. And it's worth a freaking lot, so keep expanding your skills! For the video: Your voice and way of talking is very clear and works well for that. The main issue with the whole video is, that it's only 720p, apparently shrunken down from a 1080p recording. Next time you need to upload a video from your native screen resolution, but since this video is almost 2 years old, you might already know that very well by yourself. =)

@NoArtistAvailable8 жыл бұрын
If I understood correctly, if you just hit AutoNormalize in the Weightpaint-options - blender will reduce the weight of non-active bones, when you increase the weight of the active bone. (When you painted the part of the helmet the two separate balls were both 100% controlled by the head bone and also the neck bone - if you hit normalize it would lead to every part of the mesh to not being effected more than 100% if all influencing vertexgroups were added together thus leading to no unintended behaviour)
